Liam Fulton signs new 3-year deal

Wests Tigers have received a significant boost heading into the 2013 Telstra Premiership season with hard working forward Liam Fulton today signing a new three-year deal.

Off contract at the end of this year, Fulton will now remain at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2016 season.

The representative forward made his NRL debut for Wests Tigers against the Warriors in 2003 and is a key member of the pack.

“I’m really pleased with this new contract. Wests Tigers mean everything to me and I can’t wait for the season to begin,’’ Fulton said.

“To be a one NRL club player means a lot to me. I’ve still got plenty to offer and I’m looking forward to developing my game even more over the next few seasons under our new Coach Mick Potter.”

Potter said Fulton was a key member of the squad.

“Liam’s utility value and experience are real positives for us and I’m confident that he will play an integral role this year and beyond,’’ Potter said.

Hmmmm…..not a great signing for mine.

Don't get me wrong, I think Liam has been a great servant and I am proud of his work for us. However, mostt judges can't find a starting spot for him this year. The chances of him still being in firsts by 2015 seem remote to me at best.

I would have given him a 1 year extension to help bring the kids in but that would have been it.

Fantastic thoroughly deserved of this contract ….. took 1 for the club a couple of years ago when we needed some salary cap relief and he went to Huddersfield for a year , very underated and works tirelessly and never gives up, hopefully Bryce Gibbs comes back in a couple of years and they both go out with a Premiership along with Farrah and Marshall what a story that would be ..... we can always dream can't we ?

Yeh Im a bit torn on it too….he is a favourite, but I was hoping we might for a change start to look at some size and muscle in the forwards

3 years was probably a little long, but the bloke has busted his hump and punched above his weight for us to deserve another contract. He may drift out to the bench in the next few years but I still believe he has plenty to offer.

Yeh and dont forget Braith Anasta is only here for until next year so we still need experience with youth im glad we re signed him long term he is part of the future since were in a new era now.

Well, contracts are pretty much like a relationship. if one of the two wants out or can't commit then it's over. so it should be okay if fults starts fading in 2015, but i hope he keeps powering on! he'll be 32 by then, not too old for a forward. ellis is past 30 and still great!

Deserves a new 3 year contract, He has been a very loyal player for the Tigers.

Most people have never appreciated what Fulton brings to this team.

He was already a fantastic player in 2005 yet there was rubbish written by so many about 'how much he learnt' during his stint in England, and how much better player he was when he returned. That is all garbage. If anything happened whilst he was in England he showed a few of his team mates what tackling is all about and how to run a good line in attack.

In the last few years defensively we have obviously been best served by Fulton and Ellis. Gareth certainly hit a lot harder but he also missed a few. It is very very rare to see Liam miss a tackle.

And Fulton's pace and great line running make him a huge asset in attack.

OK he will be 33 when he finishes up this contract extension, but given the motor he has got, his mobility and the fact he is a light weight I see no problems with him going the distance.
