LIVE GAME Live Game Discussion, vs Titans - Rd 1 *Spoilers*

Live Game Discussion
My thoughts:

-Api playing 50mins is a joke. He looked unfit. Typical Tigers captain of recent years - disinterested.
-Talau (yes I know he was injured) and Kepaoa just aren't first graders
-Laurie is so bad in positioning in D and needs to actually catch high balls
-Structure and shape looked interesting and good be effective with some more practice.
-This loss wasn't on Brooks.
100%

And Im not glorifying a past coach who sued the club or his icons he coached way back then....
Nobody is glorifying Sheens but Madge ain’t a coach worth glorifying over either. I was one of his biggest supporters & was furious with the decision to sack him but in hindsight it was the right decision one that should’ve been done at the end of 2021 not midway through the season. It was obvious we got worse each year under him & his style of coaching is one that is being phased out of the game. (Just have a look at Hook & the Dragons.)

The loss is on the back of the failure of the players to execute. It happened numerous times under Maguire and happened today under Sheens/Benji. They had opportunity that is all a coach can do. It's not the oval, it's not the ref, it wasn't Sheens, it was all on the players for not being able to convert when they had ample opportunity.

Yeah I know it’s tough ….. we all of the sudden have this great new side, our forward line is like no other our halves and back line should therefore be firing on all cilinders.
So what happend?

Expectations are always hard to manage and disappointed fans have their usual scapegoats.

Simple fact is that Titans were always going to be a very tough assignment for us …. they always are.
Why? …. because they have more speed, energy and talent in that side then us and “they have our number”.

Our squad played most of that game like they first met each other for the first time …. and guess what …. under actual playing conditions … they did.

What people need to do is is take a deep breath and try and understand that when you have high level of turnover in an organisation and at some time your management strategy takes a radical turn then you can not expect immediate improvement and often you’re just on trial and error fixing path.

We currently have a good core of players who will grow into their roles and with some astute further recruitment this side will move forward so but for goodness sake give the club and players support to achieve what we are all after.
Im sorry, but this is a load of bullshit.
Expectations were high because the club has been telling us all off season how we have changed our gameplay and how the fans wont recognise the team on the field and blah, blah bloody blah.
The Titans were not a better team than us today. we took more runs (51 more), making more meters (300 more), breaking their line three times more than they broke ours (6-2). We had 5 times more offloads (20-4) and 40 less tackles (291-331). We also missed less tackles (33-47), and received three times as many penalties (9-3).
We easily took ground from them with our edge running and with the exception of our errors, we were the better team.
The reason we lost is because we do not have the class in the backs to turn all these good stats into points and we just dont compete for 80.
Also, spare me the excuses of "they've never played together" "everything is new to them" etc....The Dolphins displayed today what can be achieved when you put in during the offseason. If we were so worried about this, we would have put strong sides into the trials to let them get some game experience together.
We probably will get better to a degree but that doesnt take away from the fact that we lost at home again, to a team who werent great either and these losses are what keep the mid-low ranked squads out of the 8 come September.

Giddy up. Great post

My first impression of Bula was that "he looks like a footy player" or words to that effect.

Wrote such based simply on one of the pre-season photos from @KingRobbie, and without even seeing him play, so hope the hunch works out.

If he is good enough, he is old enough.
I've only read about Bula on here and from Sheens' quick callout, but one thing I'm certain about is Laurie is a huge liability and I would honestly just bring this kid in now.

Laurie's first season at the tigers he was really good, but ever since he has been nothing short of awful.

He is always out of position and although I did make a light-hearted joke about him actually being under the high ball in the trial, that try the titans scored because the bomb bounced off Papi's shins is simply inexcusable for an nrl fullback.

Possibly the most important part of playing fullback is diffusing bombs and being there for in goal kicks.

I played fullback, and yes it was over 20 years ago and I would never claim to have been the inspiration for Tedesco taking up the game, but I would have been furious if any of my team mates even got in my way when I was catching it.

It was as simple as that: it's my job and unless I'm not where I should be, you'd better let me do it or I'm tearing strips off you.

I just haven't seen him play well since his leg injury. I think he broke it? That's hard, but it's also something he has to get over if he wants an nrl career IMO.

As it is he is like a 12 year old kid who has been allowed to train with the nrl squad for a night; he looks lost, in the way and unsure where he's supposed to be and what he's supposed to be doing.

Come to think of it, maybe he was actually chosen to be one of the "volunteers" for round 1?

Credit to the Titans. They scrambled well in defence.

We simply dropped too much ball due to the style of play we are pursuing.

I can't say I didn't enjoy us throwing everything at them all game. Even if we do lose, it's better than 5 hitups and a bomb...

The loss wasnt on Brooks is correct, but he has been in the team 10 years and showed he hasnt learnt a leadership role within that 10 years...
He should have capatilised on that first 15/20 mins and marshalled the team...he couldnt do it...what does that tell you...
After 10 years why are you surprised at Brooks not being the guy to "marshall the troops"?

Tells me that Brooks is not an organising half back; Something about 98% of us here have known for about 8 years.

He dropped a ball and had a forward pass, so there is two.

tackled at just above 50%

Regardless...the point is, this is who he is.

hectic, out of control...panthers won 17 straight and still dropped him as most of their errors were linked to him.

Not knocking him...my point is 'he' is our best center, by far.

I.e. why have we not recruited quality centers forever...
We don't need them. Lol.

Well I gave him the benefit of doubt because his fan club on here have said he has had poor coaching, poor forwards, poor backs etc for years and this year will be his best....false hope....
