Not as bad as all you are making out. They weren't switched on to start the 2nd half and they paid dearly for it. Pushed too many passes and Canberra were able to capitalise on sloppy play.
Raiders really benefited from home side advantage too.
Sure its disappointing but you can't accuse them of not having a go. Except maybe Garner.

I thought our middle forwards competed well for most of the game. Defensive issues mostly came on the edges and discipline let us down a lot.

Backrow depth a major issue. Garner isn't NRL standard.

I'd be promoting Tuilagi first thing Monday morning.

We pretty much played as bad as we could possibly play. I agree let’s not slit our wrists over an 18 point loss in round 1. Id rather that performance now than later in the season

I don’t think it was as dire as some on here. The boys were good in the first half although very rusty. Second stanza Garner started the rot with that stupid penalty, back by error after error to the point with 20 mins to go we had done a 100 more tackles than the Raiders. Amazingly at that point we had only missed five more tackles than them. I don’t know how it ended stats wise and I don’t really care as it was very clear we were extremely fatigued.

The good news is Laurie was very good. Fullback is now fixed. Hopefully 5/8 is fixed next week. I won’t crucify Liddle after that one due to the incompetence of our half. I’m sure he looked up a few times and could not find him. If the halfback can get sorted than other things will fall into place.

Yeah look fine, Canberra are a good team and there are other teams who look bad but that was pretty poor today. Poor options, soft ruck defence, slow moving attack, dumb penalties.
Okay it's not like we write off the season and sure a lot of the issues can be put down to a few players but that was a poor effort in the second half.

Exactly. I'll guarantee everyone in this forum thought we were a chance at half time. In all the games this weekend, scores were close at half time and it seems if you have a lopsided possession in the second half, fatigue will kill you. Stupid penalties, kicking out on the full, six again calls will all add up, particularly against a big, punishing side like the Raiders.

Disappointed that I thought we were a much better team this year. We’re not. Somethings wrong.

Nah , we just lost key moments , like that 5 min period just after half time . I know it’s disappointing, but I think we are definitely better . We lack penetration on the right . AD is lay down mesere to start at 6. I can’t believe anyone was questioning that .

What , no it’s round 1 , and we lost the game in a 10 minute period literally from the 41st minute through to the 50th .
It was 6 all at half time .

A lot of you guys , lack any rational thoughts . Canberra are an elite team . We stayed with them in the forwards , which we haven’t done in previous years . That’s what I look at. Like I said in another thread , come talk to me when we aren’t playing competition heavyweights , and the spine solidifies itself , and continuity grows . Mbye for 1 ,spent the whole offseason at fullback . Laurie arrived 2 weeks ago, our 6 was watching from the bench .

A game of 2 halves. We held our own in the first half but were still in the sheds for the first 15 mins of the second. When we finally wrestled some of the lost momentum back we looked disorganised and too tired in attack, with one out runners and no one supporting or looking for the ball.
Raiders were tougher and more aggressive than us, particularly in the middle. We still have to learn to play like we mean it! Not enough mongrel in us to make the opposition work for it.
Way too flat in attack. Especially with the raiders pushing up hard in D.
Liddle was poor today. Did nothing at all to help us get onto the front foot.
The second try Rapana scored and the one to Ryan James were both very poor D and smacked of the Tigers of old unfortunately.
Finally, we need to have better than AJ on the wing, Garner as a starting backrower, and Packer on the bench.
My changes would be: Bring in AD to 5/8, talau to wing, Musgrove and Jake S to bench.

I thought we got pulled back for a couple of forward passes
Well apparently forward
Even Joey Johns was bemused
Ref even called a Canberra try but was over ruled by the video Ref when Laurie was tacked without the ball
It was clear as day
And as it was a professional foul, why did we not get a penalty
It was just a play the ball
