Different year

Disappointed that I thought we were a much better team this year. We’re not. Somethings wrong.

We are a better team.

Any other time they would have put 50 on us, especially with Sutton as ref.

Madge definitely abit disappointed but optimistic, sounds confident the team can bounce back,Roosters next week I wouldnt be getting too much sleep if I was coach

Roosters will put 50+ on us next week if we dish up what we did today.

Next week's game is the most important game the team has played in a long time, Roosters will most likely be missing Friend, crichton Radley, a loss by the tigers will probably lead to an 0-4 start to the season, where a solid performance and surprise win could give them the confidence they need to compete with Newcastle and Parramatta and really compete this year

Disagree.

Canberra will be in the 8, roosters will be in the 8. Newcastle and Parra fighting it out with us. We can lose this week and next week and be no better off.

Newcastle is a must win.
Parra is a reality test.

Player probably give that long before the eggs get broken

Does Laurie retain his spot or mbye the full back?

That a serious question?

James try wasn’t pretty

Just a case of the usual suspects Krisnan Inu would have scored that as well.

Ricky will be absolutely filthy the Raiders missed that clear chance at a two point field goal just before half time. Players will pay for that at training.

People who thought Liddle will be better than Harry Grant... 🤦‍♂️ Have been saying this all off season, the bloke offers absolutely nothing. Hope we see Simpkin at starting 9 next week

I was one of them . And I’ll happily eat humble pie . His service today was beyond terrible . It was really disappointing .

I was at the game today .. yes we played badly but by crikey the ref has a lot to explain .. why when the Raiders have a player down when we are in attack .. the trainer calls for the stretcher so the ref holds up play while we are in attack .. the ref runs over to see how he is .. no stretcher comes on and player limps off with what appeared to be shoulder injury, and they got a free HIA replacement .. ?? .. but later in the game we have a player down, our trainer calls for the ref to hold the play but no the ref waves play on and Raiders take advantage of the Tigers a man down and they score ... why did the ref NOT hold up play like he did for the Raiders .. ?? There is way too much inconsistency in when the ref holds up play. The Raiders must have had a Canberra linesman on one side as he pulled us up 4 times twice when we got in the clear .. but allowed Canberra to throw a ball 2 meters forward and touchie let it go .. !! he got an ear full from all the Tigers supporters there. Ref Sutton gave the Raiders a couple of 6 again calls on the 5th and last .. but we have gave us 6 again it was on the 1st or 2nd tackles .. made a huge difference getting 6 again on the 5th.

BJ needs to learn to hold the ball .. you dont have to try the miracle ball / offload everytime. Moses Mbye was a passenger out there .. Brooks had no control at any stage of the game. Why was Lucy playing out wide like he did against Manly .. ?? Mikaele was pretty much ineffective out there. Liddle .. he still doesnt excite me enough for him to remain our number 9 .. Garner .. hmmm its time to go .. Simpkins and Blore need to be in our starting side .. and Simpkin has has to be our number 14

Interesting observations thought we had a few dud calls but we have to take that sometimes.
Your review of players fairly spot on, liddle however from what i saw is not an 80 minute player.

Just finished watching the game.
We are still the most effective team in the comp at getting punished on the scoreboard for our ill discipline and mistakes.
There was some good signs for us and at times some tough contested football (particularly in the first half).
But this was outweighed by some Neanderthal like football, most notably in the first 10mins of the second half.
Thought the guys we brought into the club in the off-season were good for us, while some of the guys who’ve been around the club for a while now turned in some shockers.

I hope madge smashes them this week
We won't win against the Roosters anyway

Drop Garner and Liddle
Douehi to partner Brooks in the halves
Simpkin 9
Mbye to 14
Stefano or Simpkins15
Musgrove 16
Mikaele 17

Packer did nothing
Bloody nothing

Go hard for Smith from Melbourne
At least he will give everything
Liddle can go to Bulldogs next year
I know it could be a confidence thing but he really should have showed more today
Simpkin is harder to defend against as he is more unpredictable

Pretty much everything you have said in this post and your others is on the money.

Brooks? Bench?

Play him with Doueihi 1st
See if they can gell
We dont want to fall into last year's trap of changing teams every week
But we need to look at our 1 6 7 and 9 over the 1st 4 to 5 weeks
Then madge really needs to try and stick with it
It just appeared we were flat today
We needed more spark
I hope he gives Simpkin a go next week with either Mbye or Liddle if need be on the bench
The Liddle Simpkin combination in the trials seemed to work
I would go back to that for at least two weeks
Liddle was definitely flat in the second half
I believe Simpkin would have created more opportunities in the second half
Garner, well what a waste of a position
He deflected the ball away from Nofoaluma for Canberra to score their 1st try
I thought that was a half hearted effort that cost us
Then he give away a stupid penalty in the second half that started the rot
The ball was covered and no need for it
Then he laughs at it
That is unforgivable
Packer had no effect in his runs at all
I didn't see any hits from him either
I would bring in a hungry Simpkins as a straight replacement

I think the bench next week should be
14 Liddle or Mbye
15 Stefano
16 Musgrove
17 Simpkins

9 Simpkin
11 Mikaele?

Mikaele would not be perfect in the 11 but IMO he would be better than Garner based on Garners performance today
Simpkins could probably share the roll if needed

Just no Packer or Garner please

I really didn't think we were that bad. beat ourselves for the first 15 after half time and created a few opportunities. don't think I've seen a defensive line move as quickly as Canberra did off their line today and that spooked us, but we were still able to find a few gaps here and there. we'll be ok.

Stop being so reasonable. It's not welcome around here. Especially after the football season is 80 minutes old.

James try wasn’t pretty

Soft as

As was Mikaele, both in effort for that try and most of his stint. We lost a lot in the guts whilst he was on the ground.

Maybe he wants out:man-shrugging:

I would prefer that we are tested at this level early.
This is a new squad with many positives and having hissy fits about performance like today is fine ..... but let’s get real ..... this is going to take time.
I saw:
- great defence particularly in first half .....
- some good performance from the pack
- our attack was clunky and nothing really worked
- what killed us was that referee, first 10 minutes of second half, couple of silly penalties and a good team.
On to next week and don’t expect miracles

Disappointed that I thought we were a much better team this year. We’re not. Somethings wrong.

Nah , we just lost key moments , like that 5 min period just after half time . I know it’s disappointing, but I think we are definitely better . We lack penetration on the right . AD is lay down mesere to start at 6. I can’t believe anyone was questioning that .

I have never come across anyone who has blinkers on more than you.it’s ok to be positive and optimistic but I think you are blind to the reality as far as this team is concerned. It’s just ground hog day

What , no it’s round 1 , and we lost the game in a 10 minute period literally from the 41st minute through to the 50th .
It was 6 all at half time .

A lot of you guys , lack any rational thoughts . Canberra are an elite team . We stayed with them in the forwards , which we haven’t done in previous years . That’s what I look at. Like I said in another thread , come talk to me when we aren’t playing competition heavyweights , and the spine solidifies itself , and continuity grows . Mbye for 1 ,spent the whole offseason at fullback . Laurie arrived 2 weeks ago, our 6 was watching from the bench .

No complaints with Mbye it was a big ask and of course Laurie was a standout .But as long as we are not competitive against the top sides we have no hope of making the 8, no good just beating the also ran’s it’s just masking over the problems with the team and the coach

Not to be a jerk , but if you honestly think Mbye was doing what he was supposed to , than I don’t know what to say , in a team that has a strike centre picking daisies all day . That’s on him to get the centre the ball . Nofa didn’t get one pass at speed all game. He didn’t use Laurie , either . I know why you liked him , cause he put in 2 grabbers for set repeats . That’s like some Des Hasler attacking structures there .

Same as last year, Madge keeps picking dummies. Bring in Simkin, Tui, Madden, and upgrade Kei, and give Cinni and others a run. Our backline except for Laurie was bad.

I take it you are joking, after one game in the season, playing one of the strongest teams in the comp.

Watched the game late, my thoughts (may be controversial).

I think this is our best team in 6-8 years.

I have been a massive true believer in Brooks for many years, but today he was really poor and Im starting to worry about him. I'd pick him next week, mostly not to scare the horses but there has to be massive improvement.

We have found our fullback, Laurie is the real deal and our best since Teddy.

I actually thought Mbye did enough to grab the 14 next week. He showed great defence and an asset in attack. Cant believe people are blaming him for the pass to the touchy, where was Nofo?

Garner must go. Simply not up to it, especially defensively.

The bones of our pack, Tamou, Joffa, Twal, LL were outstanding, Garner rubbish, Packer a non event and TM was hit and miss (I blame him for the James try, he saved another).

Our centres? Joey gets a 9/10 for effort and a 1/10 for intellect. JTJ I thought showed promise to be the best centre we have ever had.

My apologies that Im more upbeat than most. I was bitterly disappointed but I genuinely see a lot of positives.

There is nothing glaringly obvious in these stats to suggest we should get the touch up we did
The deflected kick off Garners leg cost 6 points
The kick out on the full from Brooke's took the gas out of our defence
The penalty by Garner cost us a 6 points and started the rot
It was the little things in the game that cost us today
But in saying that our attack simply did not threaten
This needs to change to have a chance against the top sides

Key moments in today’s game that cost us any chance.

Brooks x 3 grubber 5th tackle straight to the Raiders. Brooks kicks out on the full with a bomb and from a kick off.

Kepoa x 2 bombs a try from Laurie ball and then makes a break and throws a bad pass for a Raiders try.

Garner x 2 missed tackle for Raiders try and bad penalty after a nothing kick from Raiders.

BJ x2 bad offload to JTJ coming out of trouble and takes a player off the ball for a Raiders penalty.

Mbye bad harbour bridge pass to winger should have been a try.

We bombed 3 tries and gave them one by Kepoa bad pass. Garner missed tackle cost us a try also.

It’s a game we could and should have won but same issues keep coming up.
