*Live Game Thread* Round 18 VS Penrith

Does anyone have info on how Brooks trains?
Coach after coach, week after week, year after year keep selecting him at half. Even our next 2 coaches have backed him.
Its not his on field performances that are convincing this many people he is a good half.
He must train like a demon?

He must have connections in high places
 
Yeah he has got to go .I wish him the best at the dolphins but I think O'Sullivan will be in front of him there too

Plays like he trains by himself with a yoyo, walking the dog and whatnot.
 
I listened to most of the game on radio and we were in the game for a fair bit and with sufficient defence we could have held them out and won.

There were a few bits towards the end I thought crucial / indicative of the lack of effort that creeps into our game most times, and usually at the crucial time.

1/ There was a time Penrith kicked deep to us and it took to the 3rd tackle on us for the full team to return to the line. They said on tackle 2 that there were still 7 WT players that hadnt returned to the line. That is inexcusable.

2/ Laurie is small and he gets rag dolled a lot, one of our forwards stood up for him towards the end and just about hit the Penrith player. He was lucky not to the penalised in the crucial time. I am really shifting in my thinking that we do need to get a bigger fullback there, previously I was somewhat ambivalent.

3/ I believe Penrith split us through the middle for their winning try. If a contributing factor to that was WT playing Hastings at lock, surely we have to learn we cannot 'f about' with the halves. Make decision. I dont know if Offa would have made a difference there in that situation but Hastings is a 7 not a 13.

WT really were in that game and should have won it against a weakened Penrith. We didnt and this was was definitely on us, not the ref or the other team being better.

I am pleased we are blooding some young ones but we still havent really found successors to the departing 2nd rowers. I know we are getting Papalii but we need another 2. I presume they're expecting Blore to be one of them but there is a great possibility that might not happen. He is another one of the many WT players past and present retained in the top 30 on the potential and not really living up to it.
 
Only reason I can imagine he is still in the team is so they can maximise how much they can get someone to chip in to take him, if we dump him in reserves we pretty much have to pay full freight on his 1,2 million contract next year, I'm hoping sheens is bluffing in wanting him just like reverse psychology. I can dream.
 
If Brooks was hungry for the ball like Hastings I think he'd be a good half for us. Always darting through the middle, ball in his hands, distributing this way and that. But Brooks is far too passive for that sort of play, so he ends up in wide positions and he's not really strong enough to threaten defenders out there. Around the middle playing a little like Jahrome Hughes, his speed could be a weapon and forwards wouldn't be able to bunch tackle on our forwards as much because he could expose gaps in the defensive line around the ruck. But he just goes missing in games and doesn't want the ball.

He's been unsuccessfully doing that horrible too fast short ball to forwards for his whole career. I just don't understand things like how he hasn't adjusted that pass.

I think there are better options for our first grade team.

Probably hinder out roster beyond belief and ruin further chances of many more wins.

It's mind boggling that we have to have these discussions and he wasn't stamped out of our roster years ago... but alas, I'm all in on the team and will continue to be vocal about poor performances, holding these guys accountable. No matter who the player.

Im on board for the epic Sheens and Benji adventure and when / if they start winning games I'll be very happy.

At the end of the day, we all want success.

If these two unlock the enigma that is Luke Brooks I'm sure an apology will be in order - however if they also release him to another club, I wouldn't shed any tears.
