**live game thread** us vs the Cowboys

Just got home and read through the live thread - hilarious!!
Tonight was our most complete performance of the year. Out post contact metres must be huge - looked like we were rolling through them all night. Defence not just effective but bloody hard. We hurt them tonight.
Great win!!

@Tiger_Steve our line speed was great and our first contact was solid, not the usual make contact then let them gain another 10m. This is mainly because Matterson is in the middle, much more effective than Taylor and Eisenhuth.

Thought we were better tonight.

The only downside was our left hand side defensive structure looked all at sea. They could have easily scored 4-5 tries down there tonight, and the reason they didn't was more luck than anything else.

Yes. I was there too and thought the same. Great kick chase forced them into errors and sustained plenty of pressure and played with energy. Will have to watch the replay now to see what I may have missed.

The Cowboys are a massive disappointment , reckon Paul Green will be lucky to be their coach in 2020

Really have to start bringing through their good young forwards and start weaning out Bolton , Hess and Cooper

Love watching the replay after a win!!

We were the more enthuiastic, committed team from the first set and never looked like losing. However the Cowboys were really poor from the coaches down and might have been beaten by a good State Cup team tonight. I thought for the middle 50 minutes we started playing down to their level, not helped by the refs who seemed content for the Cows to slow down the ruck unpenalised.

On that performance we'd be big chances against the Bulldogs next week. Let's hope Garner is good by then because I think we've gotten our forward rotation about right.

I've given him plenty this season. He bounced back last week after a horror start. Played well again vs the cows. Well played, Momirovski. ![IMG_20190802_005114.jpg](/assets/uploads/files/1564671403187-img_20190802_005114.jpg)

Definitely our most complete performance of the year.

Really impressed with most of the boys tonight, but as exciting as it is with a win, I hope the boys realise it’s up against a massively underperforming team in the Cowboys and not get too ahead of ourselves.

I took a few of these things out of the game:

1. Finally contesting kicks in the air. Something I think we’ve missed for way too long.

2. Line speed and first contact was a huge improvement and with that so did our motivation to hit and defend aggressively. Looked completely different tonight compared to every game this season.

3. Momo, wow! Massive improvement this week and I was ready to write him off. Last week he made his try look so much harder than it could’ve been and has looked like a bit of a depth player at best previously, but this week he really stood up and looked good. Credit where credit is due. Seems to strike the ball well with his kicking too and I think the coach might possibly be swapping the duties between Mbye and Momo on their preferred sides.

4. Nofo, all heart, he does so much dirty work out of our end and looks to be growing under Madge. Lots of effort work out there tonight.

5. Mybe, loving him at centre and I reckon that’s his spot. Brooks needs to find him some early ball instead of always feeding the short ball to the back rowers. Mbye has plenty of speed and can ball play. Thurston summed up Mbye’s defence well in commentary regarding Mbye shooting out of the line but the play is covered defensively. In my opinion, I think Mbye is purposely shooting out on the attack for pressure, Brooks is then holding the line and then sprinting out the back to wing to cover Momo moving in with Mbye. I think it’s actually a coached move and quite clever, Mbye just needs to pick his moments.

6. Aloiai and Mikaele are getting better and better. Aloiai could finally be the answer to our “angry” prop. Would like to see some of the other forwards hitting these guys at the line because they are the only 2 who really bend it. We tend to go very one out at times. 4 forwards on the bench is the way to go.

7. Brooks, great game but needs to think run first. I’m convinced he’d make a great running 6 and that he’s not a long term 7. Benji’s maturity has helped him but Brooks either needs to find a bigger voice out there or he’ll never be a dominant 7. Defence has improved out of sight but still lacks game management and hits the backrower way too much with the short ball and puts them under pressure. I think a player like Chad Townsend outside him to take over the game management would be a masterstroke of a signing.

8. Watching this season, I think we need to build some more offloads into our game and generate some second phase play and also play some earlier ball out to our centre/wings. A lot of our attack is directed through the forwards but we need to find a way to bring our outside backs into the attack. We don’t use the backline enough in the opposition 20 until the final tackles or until we put through an attacking kick. To me it can become really predictable and waste opportunities just punching one after the other at the middle when our halves don’t take the middle on all that much against tired forwards.

My two bobs worth, but a really good game from the boys.

Yes a great effort from every player last night.
Improvement on last week which is good to see.
Our forwards go forward and defence built the platform which won us the game.
Well see how we go next week. If we win the forward battle against the bulldogs and keep our enthusiasm then we have a great chance of picking up our trifecta.
So yes next week is essential for us ..... if we pick up 22 points with 4 rounds to go and our confidence up .... then we open the door to final 8 a little wider.

At 16 all during the middle period of the game we bumbled around too much eh Benji? ... Had great field position but poor last tackle options kept them in it.... Probably only Penrith have played worse against us this year, they really were crap.... A better team would've come back against us as it took over an hour to put the game to bed..

But our line speed early was fantastic and the enthusiasm and attitude was top notch... All players had great games

I'm over in Germany at the moment, only just saw the game (after a full day of avoiding social media, phew).

Glad we got the win, we desperately needed it. But in saying that I can't help but feel a little disappointed. We should have put the Cowboys to the sword. They were asking for 50 to be put on them, but as ink said it took us a solid hour to put them away.

To make the semis we can only afford to drop one game. If we play like that against Manly, Cronulla or the Dragons we won't be playing finals footy. They need to find another gear and find it fast.

The better sides probably would have put them to the sword, but we aren’t that good of a side to do so. It was still a good win though. We didn’t give up two or three tries late and win 28-20. Better looking at the points we didn’t concede opposed to the points we didn’t score.

Exactly my thoughts at full-time that I mentioned.

Didn't want to put a damper on the win at all, but a better side would have capitalised on that middle period where we just went to sleep and fought back to win it - like we've seen plenty of times before.

First 10-15 minutes of the 2nd half was our chance to finish the game with all the pressure we had them under.

@Fraze23 DRAGONS????? 😂 The Kogarah Girl Guides could beat the Dragons. You obviously don't see much NRL in Germany?
