Lockyer v Johns

I think Joey is a much better player than Locky. IMO locky is towards the bottom of my top 10 all time players, His longevity and durability is what takes him towards the top end.
At no point was he the best player in the game, but he seemed consistently to be in the top 5 for about 15 years.

I too have Fittler ahead of Lockyer, he was amazing! particularly mid 90's . for interest sake my top 10, starting about the mid 80's, but my memory for the early years is skewed by me being so young.

1\. Johns
2\. Lewis
3\. Fittler
4\. Meninga
5\. Slater
6\. Langer
7\. Gene Miles
8\. D Lockyer
9\. Tallis
10\. Michael O'Connor

Can't believe you have Fittler ahead of Meninga and Slater and no Brett Kenny in your top 10
WOW

I dont really remember Brett Kenny, I remember him, but not really, his best footy was kind of before my memory. Same goes for Sterling.

Fittler is awesome, one of my all time favourites, I have him right up there with Joey and Wally. I think there is a gap after those 3 in my mind.

Everywhere Fittler went they won, and Fittler was a massive part of it, he was the best player in the world for about 5 years.
Every time I watch a classic game on fox my opinion rises, others when I see them, I am disapointed, not fittler

1- Clive Churchill
2- Tommy Bishop
3- Darren Lockyer
4- Brad Fittler
5- Peter Sterling
6- Andrew Johns
7- Wally Lewis
8- Arthur Beetson
9- Reg Gasnier
10- Brett Kenny

That's my top ten and I have a few I struggled with , only because they played the game within the true meaning of sportsmanship. I rate Junior as the ultimate sportsman he was always hard and clean in every game. I recall at Leichhardt when Greg Dowling dropped the knees on Gary Freeman at a scrum breakdown and he went off , also in a SCG game when given a hospital pass as his only bad moments and he only swore. He could make the top ten but who could I drop ? Arthur for belting Cronin ? I can't split them and as Arthur is an indigenous legend he gets the nod.

Maybe we could do an indigenous top ten ? Larry Corowa - Chicka Ferguson ? Gee 89 still hurts.

Johns is the best I have ever seen (have been watching since the mid-70s).
Far superior to Lockyer in my opinion. Much better football brain, better kicker, better defender, better passer, better at putting a player through a gap, better at leading a team. The only thing Lockyer has on him is longevity.

I have been watching league since late 70's and agree with Tommy Magpie that Johns is the best I have ever seen. Genuis player.

Both Johns and Lockyer will be in the Hall of Fame.

I am glad other rugby league fans rate Brett Kenny so highly. Great player and score a double in three consecutive Grand finals. Attacking genuis and also great defender.

I also rate Bradley Clyde highly.

The Canberra Raiders side of the last 80's early 90's best team I have ever seen. Legends like Big Mal, Belcher, Mullins, Daley, Ferguson, Stuart, Clyde, Walters, Brick with Ears, Crocker, Wiki, Furner etc

A lot of good judges say Kenny was as good as Lewis when they opposed each other in SOO.

Brett Kenny was a freak. Would love to see him become an immortial but has a few players ahead of him.

Wally Lewis was a great player and deserves to be an immortial.

I agree fully

to me johns was a magic player hence superior, lockyer is a great player. But as for captain and leader lockyer hands down. I dont think you'll ever see Lockyer being just a sideline commentator - Lockyer is a class act. On the same token Lockyer will never be the king.

See I rate Wally, Fittler, Locky and Johns all in the same bracket. They're all class footballers who wouldn't look out of place at the top of the best footballers of all time. Given what they've given their respective clubs, states and country, they're inseparable for mine. Despite being a QLD supporter, Joey and Fittler were a lethal halves combo of which they will probably never have again.
