I like the way our team is building albeit slowly but we must build from within. Do what Gould and co did at Penrith it takes time but we must grow and nurture our juniors our base is huge.

How is our junior pathways progressing?

Looks pretty bleak... Not much coming through...

with Madge saying what he said to Roach about how he needs Benji gone to implement his defensive systems and strategies properly as well as Webster moving on, tells me that we'll be having a massive pre-season based around defence. I have zero concerns about our attack and believe that's up to standard, but if we can drastically improve our defence I don't think the 8 is especially out of reach.

That's all good but we still have Joey Leilua and Nofoaluma on the right. If Talau can replace Leilua we may just be there but no chance if Leilua remains.

You really need to let this Joey thing go Paws.

He is a very good centre and will be again now that Benji is no longer inside him.

1 - In attack he will actually get the ball, which is a great start to making a break.

2 - In defence the edge forward, the centre and the winger won't have to come in
because of the incompetence of the 5/8. Makes a big difference if you don't leave
the side gate open.

so why did Madge keep selecting him? By dropping Benji would solve these problems why did he not? Is Madge to soft or does he not see this? i hope your wrong or else we have a bigger problem with the coach.

The problem is gone - just need the right 5/8.

So you reckon ALL of our right side defensive issues were caused by our previous 5/8 ?

Yep

Awesome
Looking forward to a watertight right hand side defence next season ?

We need to catch up for a beer hobbo

Would be a great night

I don't think our defensive issues are entirely on one person but they can start with one person. Apparently Trent Robbo believes defence is like a living entity where it flows and moves with the surrounding players.

That's where we break down. Player A misses a tackle (or Player B thinks he will) then Player B comes in to help. The outside players rush in, gaps appear outside and we end up two men short on the wing.

I think this is why Garner, and to a lesser extend JL, have looked bad this year. Joey's reads are terrible but until we can sure-up the inside corridor we'll continue to struggle.

Yeah our defence in the middle was really bad. Not sure it's fixable for next year. Hopefully Tamou helps

Is finishing 8th or 7th really much of an achievement these days anyway? If we finished 8th or 7th we probably get rolled just like Knights do yesterday anyway

Rather make it, and have an actual shot of going deep into finals footy than limp in

Unless you’re on a run aka Parra 2009 or Cows 2017 more than likely you’re just cannon fodder. For example not sure what confidence knights can take out of making it then just getting blown off the park

Conversely, Newcastle looked okay for the initial period after I tuned in just after half-time. They were within range and had they'd provided one stronger set in defence or taken their chances then, the knights would have been a big show in the current game of momentum, where one mistake, lapse or referee's decision can change a game and it did.

Good point.

But the lack of desire in a finals game is pretty concerning with the talent they have. Up at 14-0 then letting in 46 unanswered points is no excuse, even if a referee shifted momentum in the 2nd half. Just imagine if souffs didn’t have butter fingers in the first 15.

Yep, we can all be critical of our own club, but Newcastle would have to be the most underperforming team in the comp, considering their roster. They really should be pushing top 4 or 5 with that team. Gonna get Frizell next year also, so they will have half of the NSW pack, but will probably still struggle.

When did I say that doesn’t count, I wasn’t talking about our squad. I was just referring to Newcastle’s roster which is pretty stacked with Origin players, yet they fail to perform.

It's not the best but thought I'd still share for those struggling to remember the feeling of supporting their team during finals footy.
Hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Ill say Tamou.
Frizell has a far better individual effort and individual impact. In a pack like Parramatta or Newcastle, he is a better pick there.
Tamou, just look at how the Penrith pack has gelled and gelled around him. He is what we wanted out of Russell Packer.

Sadly I don't think we take our forwards seriously. We see how average players like Bailey Sironen have grown so much at Souths, yet we fire their dad. There is so much focus of us on our backs and our spine but really we need muscle and it is a rare comody these days.

Luke Brooks fault. Pigs didn't do their job but he should of won those games on his own. /sarcasm
Seriously this shows how some people on the forum really over rates our forwards.
