Looks like heino will be going too

I don't believe we would be going through this turmoil because we are over the cap, it would be easier just to not sign Blair. I suspect that Sheen's wanted the clean out and that we have signed someone other than Blair, a half or a fullback, oh to dream.
 
Nice work Tim Sheens. I actually thought teams were picked on form. He must be thinking that in twelve months Chris H will be playing ordinary

Sheens is an utter disgrace. As Crouching Tiger brilliantly has posted, we have been getting bashed in the forwards since 2006.

Sheens is a disgraceful coach.

I like Rhino and would be happy for him to stay, but he is not the player that many people seem to think he is, and I think it's perfectly valid that he would be a bench player next season.

Heighington does alot of work but it's all about quantity rather than quality. He does not dent the line, he is not big enough to punch through the line. He doesn't have an offload. He doesn't hurt in defense. He makes plenty of tackles but he doesn't punish in defense like Galloway or Ellis can.
 
Chris Heightington is a good honest player. He is not a world beater, but i think it says something that the likes of Bennett and Gould are interested in him. He is also a pretty consistent player. Something we don't have a lot of. Honestly letting go of a character like that, it's going to do more damage than good. The only solution I can come to is that we are in a salary cap mess, a horrible mess and we are trying to get ourselves out of it in a hurry.

As Eddie said, good, honest player but a step below being a great player. He is also at the back end of his career. Happy for him to stay as a bench player but i can see the logic behind the decision.
 
Cannot believe Heino is going.
Truly, I don't think he is the best 2nd rower - but neither was Buckets and I loved him.

I support Sheens all the way….. (though, if it was Brian Smith doing this I'd say he's an idiot.)
IMO Sheens bagging is sad and short-sighted. Like those Chelsea fans who bagged Mourinho because he didn't win the champions league.

Still, we don't have a good enough replacement for Chris yet. If we got an amazing second rower to replace Heino I would probably understand this. e.g. Watmough, Gallen, Mateo, Taylor or Burgess ( but that's about it! - better be one of them!).

As mentioned in other threads, Fulton can be the ball playing lock.
It may sound stupid coz Fulton gets dominated more than Heighno, but his ball playing skills will be helpful.
Thats where I miss Payten.
 
After every game we lose all I see on this forum is people whinging why and how we lost, if u are real supporters of THE CLUB and want to see us as a premiership contending team maybe this clean out is needed, I like heigno as much as the next supporter but do u think losing these players will be worth it next year or the year after we win a premiership, and look at sheens record when he sticks with the same team 2 final series since 03 and is the first coach to lose 300 games

What are you guys on? He's been one of our best players this year…. and consistently one of our better players over the last few years. He is currently running second in the player of the year, as voted by the forum members. He bleeds tiger blood! He is also still currently under contract! There is only one bloke who currently has a contract that I'd like to see leave the club and his name is Tim Sheens.

Look at Canberra. They have one of the bigger packs and they suck. What about the Blues in SOO2\. A smaller pack and they were fine. You don't need to be the biggest to be the best.

Tigers chief executive Steve Humphreys last night denied Heighington had permission to negotiate with other clubs, and also rejected the notion that the backrower would be allowed to join a UK Super League club.

Chris Heighington is the sort of player you love having in your team- which makes hearing that he could be leaving very tough to accept.

Sheen's theory about needing to be 'bigger' is wrong- we don't need to be 'bigger'- we need to be 'tougher', 'more physical' & 'harder to break down'. Gibbs, Fifita, Heighington, Flanagan, Payten…they've all been good players- great clubmen in many regards- but they do also fall into the Tigers 'too easily dominated' forward pack of the last 5 years (maybe more really).

I don't really like adam Blair as a player- but I do see him standing in tackles looking to offload- something you don't see Gibbs doing, rarely see Heighington doing...he's a solid defender, unlike Fifita who is hit-and-miss, he's physical, tough & plays with a 'can't beat me' attitude that probably stems from coming out of the Storm system.

Is he 'great'? No- he's not even going to be the best forward for the team- that'll be Ellis. But he brings a different style to the Tigers, and given that the current Tigers system has failed more than it's succeeded, that's not a bad thing.

I've seen a few people saying we need outside backs, or halves, to improve. I don't agree- I believe we have plenty of punch out wide & 4 first-grade quality halves in the squad. A fullback- yes, we need one of those.

But the key is up front. It's always been up front. The Tigers forwards rarely DOMINATE a game- and given that the financial investment in the forwards is pretty steep, we should be getting better results.

I've come to love watching Gibbs, Heighington, Payten etc....I love the Tigers, so it's easy to do. But the club needs to do more than provide players we can be proud of- they need to produce results, for their own sake & ours. If removing some players that are part of the foundations of this team is required to change the direction of this club, then so be it. It's hard....probably harder for the players than us, but the long term success of the club must be paramount.
