It's kind of a joke … There's so many threads about the magpie being to small , too much gold etc ... But the way I see it is the only word missing from the merge is balmain .... Not that I care

While I was aware that Balmain/Ryde Eastwood would no longer compete in the NSWRL along with the Western Suburbs Magpies to be replaced by a Wests Tigers side I would have expected that Balmain would have survived in the Bundy Cup alongside with the Magpies, does this mean that Balmain no longer have a Senior RL side anywhere?.

IIRC one of the main options shortly before the merger was calling the NRL side the "Sydney Tigers",although it was a disaster in 95 the name change for the top grade was considered by many to be the way forward,anyway the point is Balmain was going to be lost in our name as we moved to secure a permanent top grade presence and this fact(among other things including financial) was was used to sell the "Wests Tigers " name on the Balmain side of the JV.

WTFL There is nothing stopping Wests (Us) to nominate Ellery to the Magpies Hall of Fame either

You will never get an even split in any merger one will have dominance due to numbers ,influence ,business strategy etc
If we stayed as Wests we die , or live on life support until eventually we become nothing
If Balmain stayed as a single entity the same would of happened
We couldn't have a better mix in my opinion
Saints and Sheilas fans and Manly and Norths fans would be envious of our situation in regards to how the entities came together Appreciate what has happened , as I have said countless times losing your club entirely is one of the worst feelings (bar family members passing away ) I have dealt with in my lifetime

- There is an ex-Balmain player as CEO because he was the best candidate when the position was open, but we'll ignore the fact that for the first 8 years of the organisation there were ex-Wests Magpies officials in the CEO role.
- The media thing is simply because the media refer to the majority if not all clubs by their mascot, and repeating Wests Tigers consistently in copy reads and sounds terrible.
- The inner city location thing is simply a business decision. Being close to the city is what the club needs commercially, and is much better for recruiting players. In addition, our training base is actually in Wests territory.
- On the Campbelltown issue, you'd think if the locals were desperate for rugby league then they'd turn up if they only have four games a year. The club can't play the big games there because they are contractually obliged to play the bigger drawing games at SFS, and they can't control the scheduling by the NRL and the TV networks. If you want more games at Campbelltown, turn up and show your support and they will give you more. How can you honestly expect WT to take more games there if they can't sell out the ones that are there now? The Campbelltown area has never seemed to embrace the WT, much like they didn't really ever embrace the Magpies.
You could go on for hours, but you'd still not get anywhere. It needs to be accepted by everyone that we are WESTS TIGERS. If someone refers to us as the Tigers, I don't see any reason why there should be uproar, same as if we're referred to as Wests. They are what we are, but in saying that, we're NOT THE MAGPIES.
In reference to the former players, I personally regard all former Balmain and Wests players as legends of our joint-venture club. We have 200+ years of history, and it should be embraced.
But what would I know?

The hole point of this thread was to acknowledge the fact that we are wests tigers now , regardless of who u supported previously . I was I massive balmain fan but I know longer cheer them on . I cheer on the wests tigers and I appreciate that we're a totally new team . Sorry if it went to far . Imagine In 10 - 20 years from now majority, our fans would probably never heard of balmain or magpies … Hmmmm

One could make an argument also against the so called Balmain bias.
The first two CEO's were Bullock & Noyce ex Magpies.
Up until 2011 yes that is 11 years after inception the main jersey was always predominately black bar 2003-2004 where the white jersey was predominate. The orange jersey was only the main jersey in the last couple of years. The only reason we wore an orange jersey in the 05 GF was because of the clash with the Cowboys.
In regards to the Elias's & Blocker's opinion always being sort after with all due respect there were not too many high profile Wests players that actually were one club men over the last 25 years journos could call on.They normally go back to Noel Kelly to get a few comments. Tommy is one they go to a lot but he did also play for Newtown. The rest of the high profile Maggies unfortunately ended up leaving for other clubs. Concord the training base is also in very close to the old MAgpie border so I can't see that as an issue.
This is not an anti Wests rant the perceived bias to Balmain may also come down to profile before the merger. It can be argued that Balmain had a higher profile than Wests mainly due to their run in the 80's and so a lot of outsiders media & other fans may identify the team more to Balmain than Wests. Similar but by no means close to how people would relate St George Illawarra as St George.
I understand ex Wests supporters are upset with certain aspects but I was also annoyed the Balmain Tiger was replaced with a cartoon tiger as the offical emblem. You will never please everyone with a merger.

That is what the op was getting at , and just because some old Wests supporters will never differentiate a WestsTiger from a Balmain Tiger does not mean they are not different beasts.

I think the heritage rounds are the perfect (and only) time to trot out the old Maggies and Balmain stuff to remind our younger supporters of our past- isn't that what the heritage rounds are all about?
