2013: The Year of Redressing the Balance

So whats the issue. We are Tigers supporters aren't we? The only type of Tigers from SG Ball level and up are of the Wests variety.

Of course WT are the only Tigers in the NRL, the point is that omitting the 'Wests' in WT (intentionally, carelessly, ignorantly) eats away at the legacy of Western Suburbs that is suppose to be alive within the JV.

If all the public (non WT fans) hear on tv and radio is 'Tigers' and all they see and read is 'Tigers' in the papers & online, then Wests will be out of sight and out of mind and the significance of the name and wests brand will fade away and become lost. Mix that with orange & black only merchandise and we are left with Tigers (which comes from Balmain Tigers) as the brand that continues to live on at the top level.

A small part of me agrees with you, but it is what it is. Like someone mentioned earlier, eventually the TIGERS will move out west permanently. The Campbelltown area is one of the fastest growth areas in Australia.
You say our identity is being eroded, true but they have lost Balmain. They retain their colour, but that's fair, that's the colours of a TIGER. We'll completely loss the MAGPIE, but they'll loss Leichardt, their spiritual home.
Don't forget both sides lost supporters that could never accept the merger, I know I did, and still till today I try and convince some of my mates to give it a chance so we can go to the footy together, like in the good old days, but it's never going to happen. The pain of the merger will remain as long as us MAGPIES and BALMAIN TIGERS are around. Time will be the eventual winner.

How can we call on the board to present a unified front, with no us/them mentality, when the fans can't even do it?

Its sickening.

THESE THREADS ARE EMOTIONAL DEBATE - NOT A WAR AMONGST WT FANS!!

Highlighting these matters is not a sign of not being united but more a realistic look at where WT is at maintaining the sporting and business legacy of Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies and how that is perceived through WT fans and Non WT fans.. A lot of the omission of 'Wests identity' in WT is not the fault of WT fans or the club itself but but its brought on by non WT fans and primarily the media.

So essentially what he is saying….
Is that it is Wests Tigers responsibility to hold up (Not only) thier own Identity - The Wests Tigers
But to also hold up the Identity of the Western Suburbs Magpies... And I would hazard a guess, That he also hold the same concerns about Balmains fading image??
As Staks said: The only Tigers that exist at this level, The Tigers they are referring to in all you noted points, The Tigers that these guys play for, The Tigers we should ALL be supporting...
Are the WESTS Tigers.
All other petty gripes are voided because of this overlooked FACT!!

It's about respecting and incorporating the heritage of both foundation clubs within the joint venture … In a relatively equitable fashion. This hasn't been how the wider population has perceived the club during the first decade or so ...

The fact that 99% of these gripes come from former Western Suburbs supporters reveals their is an imbalance.

And why there is so much open hostility to this point kind of bemuses me.
As 81 said earlier ... We're all Wests supporters here ...

The club can only do so much would be the point I would make.

After that you usually get ignored as people have their own way of doing things.

I feel the imbalance is only there because it is percieved to be there and more often than not searched out.
I have heard Rabs call WT's Western Suburbs so many times, But never heard it mentioned here….
I, myself just giggle!!
I feel it somewhat strange when I see a gripe about the Magpie Mascot not being at WT games, I don't understand why it would be, Mascots are for the Kids... And I assume we are trying to sell them WT's, Not a foundation club that no longer exists, With a mascot no longer relevant to First Grade.
As previously stated... People will only see what they want to see, If they want to see imbalance they will.
Fact nor fiction will enable them to see anything else....

Good old Mark the Magpie made his triumphant return the first Sunday night in October 2005\. Was a great touch of Nostalgia for a special occasion. The greatest Mascot there ever was

Bingo!!! And you are no different

Theres no wrong or right answer to any of this, its all about perception, and perception is wide ranging

I disagree with you mate…
I am different.
These threads are about dwelling on what once was....
Something I have never done in the history of the JV, And something I don't intend on doing.
When I speak of the History of this football club, I am talking from 6.2.2000 ----->
But that's just MY perception....

And what is perception? seeing things how you want to see them, so no, you are no different

Does WT has less history and significance in australian rugby league than Melbourne Storm? If history and tradition is not important than why does WT still play at Leichhardt?

I understand the point you are trying to make and it is a valid one.

However in terms of a factual reply we still play games at Leichhardt for two reasons

a) The much vaunted Joint Venture agreement
b) The majority of Season Tickets are based around a Leichhardt inclusive package.

But really it is what it is and I am ok with it

Ok batboy, if you want to try and frame all this from inside the vacuum.
Let me play along and say that from 6.2.2000 the balance has been all wrong.
More attention needs be paid the WESTS part of our name, more attention needs be paid the colour White. Leichhardt Oval is the spiritual home of the Balmain Tigers but has little lasting significance when considering the joint venture. Pearce, Elias, Roach, Barnes, Leo Nosworthy etc are not legends of my club. The south west of Sydney is the future of our club, a fact the Magpies recognized 25 years ago …

I mean if the heritage of both Wests and Balmain is irrelevant why not just call ourselves Manchester United and play out of Old Trafford ... Apparently that works quite well.
