I think the claim that the South West of Sydney is the future for any NRL club at this stage is not correct.

The region is a player crucible no doubt but in terms of income, attendance and sustainable growth it is by no means the golden goose many believe it to be.

There needs to be a larger presence by Wests Tigers in the South Western corridor but I think a viable and sustainable move is in excess of 25 years away under the current modelling.

Merely my opinion.

That is not this issue currently at hand though.

Something I have never done in the history of the JV, And something I don't intend on doing.
When I speak of the History of this football club, I am talking from 6.2.2000 ----->

Let me play along and say that from 6.2.2000 the balance has been all wrong.
More attention needs be paid the WESTS part of our name, more attention needs be paid the colour White. Leichhardt Oval is the spiritual home of the Balmain Tigers but has little lasting significance when considering the joint venture. Pearce, Elias, Roach, Barnes, Leo Nosworthy etc are not legends of my club. The south west of Sydney is the future of our club, a fact the Magpies recognized 25 years ago …

Of course WT are the only Tigers in the NRL, the point is that omitting the 'Wests' in WT (intentionally, carelessly, ignorantly) eats away at the legacy of Western Suburbs that is suppose to be alive within the JV.

**If all the public (non WT fans) hear on tv and radio is 'Tigers' and all they see and read is 'Tigers' in the papers & online,** then Wests will be out of sight and out of mind and the significance of the name and wests brand will fade away and become lost. Mix that with orange & black only merchandise and we are left with Tigers (which comes from Balmain Tigers) as the brand that continues to live on at the top level.

As I keep pointing out….that is NOT the case.
Some people raise isolated incidents......but its not the case
The logo has wests int it, the jersey has the magpie....people see this, believe me they do

Thanks for that CB … I just googled it ... I had no idea ... The Red Devils should be playing in Norwich jerseys ... It's an outrage ... And when does anyone pay due reverence to the Yorkshire Railways these days when calling a Man Utd game ?
Probably just as well that I'm not 130 years old and I don't live in those parts ... Otherwise I'd doubtlessly be one of the "odd nut cases" you refer to.

If anything, it probably reinforces the point that some are making here… You don't forget where you came from.

No, I agree with you CB … I'm sure back between the World Wars the Man Utd forum was full of passionate green and gold fans bemoaning the death of heritage ... And rightly so too !

Perhaps not, but at least we can take solace in the fact that human physiology ensured that no poor fellow had to endure the injustice of watching both Newton Heath and the Magpies erased from the sporting landscape in their lifetime.

Completely agree. In my opinion it is an important part of the joint venture's future, but it is not the god-send that many people believe it to be. Just look at the recently announced NSW Origin Pathways squad announced this week. For all the juniors in the Macarthur region, there are six WT representatives, four Balmain juniors, one Wests junior and one Canterbury junior.

As a Balmain local and former Balmain Tigers supporter (in the sense that I'm a WT man now), it makes me very proud to see that. That's not bagging the Wests junior system either, they have an will continue to produce quality junior footballers, but to say that they are the only future of the club is a bit short-sighted.

Never said it was irrelevant Snod, But it has it's time and place…. And I don't believe the division that dwelling on the past creates builds a healthy future.
I totally agree, Pearce, Elias etc are NOT legends of this club... Never said they were. I believe this club has enough history to have it's own legends (A point I brought up to WT's upper management last year) A point the CEO fully agreed to. Believe me when I tell you WT's would gladly ditch playing at LO oval.. Only problem is, 80+ of our membership revolves around it... So I don't think WT's is ready to deal with that egg just yet.
I also question that if SWS is the future of our club, How is it the previous club failed? SWS is a part of our future...
But as previously mentioned, Not the golden goose it is made out to be on this forum.

For starters I'm having a guess your 80+ is off the mark. In relation to the Magpies move to Campbelltown, the team was pushed into the area to survive. With no real help from the NSWRL through promoting or financials they were always going to do it tough, in the same way the Storm would have if they received no assistance. But as money was poured in during WOKS time as coach and quality players signed, crowd figures improved through the roof. If you try selling someone a quality product, they will buy it. It will happen as soon as a quality stadium is built in the SWS, but the government will not commit to a project that will house a part time team.

Totally agree that our current crop of fine juniors is something to be proud of but it's a little artificial to draw a line in the sand and say the mix is always like this …throw Tedesco into your list and add the junior Magpies who qualify for NZ representation, acknowledge Moses is actually a Paramatta junior and the balance looks more bland.

But look at it over a course of time ...the Balmain junior league is impressive however the south west of Sydney is a consistent goldmine of young talent.

I do acknowledge Smegs point however about the area not having the financial ooommpphh to fully support a rugby league juggernaut.

Continue reading article and notice a lack of reference to the name Wests Tigers. Just Tigers. Omitting any reference to Wests.
