It's a common occurence on forums, where all you need is an email address and a user name. Almost every forum suffers from the multiple ID syndrome, many of these people who do this set out to bait others in order to get a bite from someone, then their other ID's come in and attack with insults.
I remember many years ago witnessing one guy with 4 id's starting a conversation with himself on a forum, then waiting for others to join in. Three of his id's attacked a person, then his 4th id came into the victims defence, and seemingly " Scared Off " the bullies.
God knows why people do this, perhaps they have psychological problems, you'd never know, perhaps they are dimunitive people who were bullied when growing up, and seek revenge in anonimity, but whatever, you do need strong moderation in dealing with these people.
Rule of thumb, ignore there attempts to bait you, as soon as you bite, they have got you, they rely on it to get their rocks off. If you ignore them, they will soon go somewhere else to satisfy their lust for causing trouble.
I can't believe people would bother to do this - but after reading this post the forum starts to make a lot more sense to me :unamused:
I know it's off topic, but there was an article in the SMH(?) a few weeks back about internet trolls and why they deliberately set out to do it. Some reckon they felt good when they did it, others because they had nothing better to do, others were as you mentioned psychologically or socially impaired and others were victims of bullying.
This one kid they interviewed, he said he spent about 14 hours a day just trolling people cause it made him feel better about himself. He enjoyed the reactions he got to his behaviour.
