Yeah, i'm not completely against the idea of keeping him for 12 months at a reduced rate. The club's number one aim now has to be to work out a training schedule tailored to Lote's needs. They need to get him real fit. The good news with Lote's injuries were they were largely all different on each occasion, so nothing's reoccurring. However i do not understand the logic in holding on to both Lote and Utai. It just seems a bit unnecessary really. Of the two Lote always had my vote because of his experiences in the game - playing at the highest level in two codes. The fact is he was a quality player and quality players still carry their traits. There's no doubts our younger talent will benefit from him staying one more year.
Keeping Lote isn't without potential problems and there are reservations about it even now. The facts are though if he stays fit, he will be an asset on the field. Given a full pre season he will obviously be fitter, stronger and faster than he was the majority of 2012\. The trick is to keep it that way. And that is where the risk lies. It is where the club and player will be judged on success or failure.
