Another former Broncos international, Karmichael Hunt, who is playing rugby union in France before his switch to AFL next year, also twittered Tuqiri: ''Congrats bra! just saw the headline about your move … thats awesome!''

Before the 30-year-old dual international's return could be finalised, he had to reveal to Gallop why the ARU last year terminated his $1.2 million-a-season contract.

''I spoke to Lote last night and asked him about the reason he was terminated by the ARU,'' Gallop said. ''I had always said that if a club was close to signing him I would need to know.

Gallop revealed he had been in frequent contact with Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys, who flew to England to finalise the deal. ''I've spent the last 72 hours in pretty intense email and telephone exchanges with Stephen Humphreys in Leicester,'' he said. ''There were a number of salary-cap issues that took a bit of sorting out, but given they have announced his signing, it seems they have accepted our ruling.''

The Herald had earlier been told the problem revolved around a third-party sponsorship deal with boot manufacturer Blades, which at one stage threatened to scuttle the deal.

Humphreys said: ''There is a minimal third-party element to the deal''.

''I think Lote and his family have really enjoyed it over here,'' Humphreys told the Herald on his way to Heathrow Airport last night. ''It has been a tonic for them given the unsettling situation they went through after the ARL issue, but there is no place like home.
>
''From a sporting point of view, the easy option for Lote would be to stay and take the good money on offer here and the even better money in France. No one would begrudge him that. He's 30 years old and could play rugby here for another five years …

''He obviously has things he wants to achieve and a considerable influence on his decision was the opportunity to play under Tim Sheens.''

Sheens, the Australian coach, revealed the former Queensland Origin and Test star had his sights set on reclaiming his representative jerseys - ''something other players coming back from rugby union have been unable to do of late''.

Tweeting Tuqiri tells Gallop the reason ARU sacked him

Lote Tuqiri outside his home in Balmain.

LOTE TUQIRI had to tell NRL chief executive David Gallop the reasons for his sacking by the ARU before his three-year contract with Wests Tigers could be registered.

Tuqiri, who is playing rugby union in England with Leicester, will join the Tigers at the end of March, and could make his first NRL appearance since leaving the Broncos to sign with the ARU in 2002 in round four.

Tuqiri's signing completes the return of the trio of high-profile NRL Test stars who switched codes to play for the Wallabies in the 2003 Rugby World Cup, with Mat Rogers at the Titans and Wendell Sailor playing for the Dragons last season.

Sailor was among those to congratulate Tuqiri after the news of his signing broke on smh.com.au, twittering his long-term former teammate: ''Congrats my man i think u have made a great decision well played that man. I know one of my boys will look after u beau ryan!!!!!''

Another former Broncos international, Karmichael Hunt, who is playing rugby union in France before his switch to AFL next year, also twittered Tuqiri: ''Congrats bra! just saw the headline about your move … thats awesome!''

Tuqiri replied to Hunt: ''Thanks my man! Nowhere near as big a move as yours will be.''

With Tuaki saying he wants to go to Rugby next year and be an all black i think its a good to get Lote now ….I hope Tuaki does not go but he has a dream to be an all black

interesting bit by gallop.

just got to hope he doesn't get a major injury.
wouldn't be surprised for someone to have a life changing scoop on that and extend this thread another 500 pages.

and no way lote comes through reggies.
did benji?ohh that's right,lote is 180 years old.

just a side note, lote was on triple m this morning.

Hope not. That is a joke if true. I can handle him waltzing into the squad a couple of rounds late, but that late…come on!?

.

Yes, X-Blades almost pulled out a few weeks back. That's basically how I knew what was going on as a few other smaller sponsors had been sounded out about maybe stepping in. It's simply fact that the deal wasn't done until the last 72 hours. Yes, it was verbally done and 99% of the way to being completed. No one is doubting that.

But if any of you know anything about contracts you'll know that nothing is 100% until it's signed.

Very good work from our CEO who was patient beyond expectation. There's a reason the bloke was second in charge at QUANTAS. He's obviously a very good operator. (And his own man / not just Kevin's boy)

Simon

Grow up kid.

Unfortunately, I am in my late 30s and that makes me too old to bother arguing with a 15 year old anymore.

The rest of you blokes I'll see at the games. Kul, my offer stands!

Go the Tigers.

Had a look at the telegraph today expecting the full back page…

And bloody Willy Mason trumped us!

guys… seriously, get a room

This is a Lote Tuqiri thread, we don't want to hear about who your friends may or may not be.
If you want to talk about it, start a thread in the General Discussion section called "I am friends with..."

Well done Wests Tigers.
Today will be remembered as day that this club turned another major corner.

2005 will seem like nothing compared to what the club will do over the next few years

Humph has started to do what Steve Noyce failed at: make WT the ManU of the NRL

I like the 1st line

dont know about the 2nd line

and the 3rd - I thought that was scotty longmuir and not Noyce

Either Way - 35 days…

Longmuir may have said it too, but Noyce was the first

he not only said it in an article somewhere, he also said it to the collective faces of smeghead, westie and I at a meeting at camp concord back in 2006

It's another conspiracy!!

Does WT think we will get many more members just because Lote has signed?
Surely that shouldn't be a factor as to whether or not you would want to be a member …..
As long there is black, gold and white on the field, that's all I would need!! Tigergran

I hope so…

On field success equals more bums on seats.

Case in point Parra (2009) and Souths (potential for 2010)
