Lote Tuqiri thread

It was interesting to read on on nrl.com that payton said that lote would be on the wing. I think that it is a massive waste to spend 400k on a player and put him on the wing. I would be looking to drop ashyford and put lote in the centres or put AT on the bench, moltzen to half and lote to full back….. Thoughts.

Does Gallop live under a rock?
Everyone knows why Tuquiri was sacked.

Well i live at the bottom of a big rock called Toowoomba. Very far away from all the Sydney gossip and I know nothing about his terminated contract. Would someone be kind enough to PM with the truth/rumour. Even just a hint, whatever.

Has anyone noticed any change in the betting market for the Tigers since the confirmation of Lote's signing? I'd imagine it would have shortenend a little almost straight away. I knew this day was coming and should have got on before he was confirmed as a Tiger.

Well done Wests Tigers.
Today will be remembered as day that this club turned another major corner.

2005 will seem like nothing compared to what the club will do over the next few years

Humph has started to do what Steve Noyce failed at: make WT the ManU of the NRL

I like the 1st line

dont know about the 2nd line

and the 3rd - I thought that was scotty longmuir and not Noyce

Either Way - 35 days…

Longmuir may have said it too, but Noyce was the first

he not only said it in an article somewhere, he also said it to the collective faces of smeghead, westie and I at a meeting at camp concord back in 2006

Cool

Are you a Her???

If the Tigers wanted this signing to have maximum media coverage they sure failed massively. All Ch10 had on Sports Tonight was the Tigers logo and the presenter saying we'd signed him, then went straight over to the Mason story.

Ch 9 said he wont be here til end of March unless they can sort out a release from Leicester

I can only assume that he's angry with me because he got banned from the forum (even though he's back under another name).
It's sad because I didn't want him banned, I didn't ban him and I asked that he not be banned.
oh well… each to their own

interesting bit by gallop.

.

Yes, X-Blades almost pulled out a few weeks back. That's basically how I knew what was going on as a few other smaller sponsors had been sounded out about maybe stepping in. It's simply fact that the deal wasn't done until the last 72 hours. Yes, it was verbally done and 99% of the way to being completed. No one is doubting that.

But if any of you know anything about contracts you'll know that nothing is 100% until it's signed.

Very good work from our CEO who was patient beyond expectation. There's a reason the bloke was second in charge at QUANTAS. He's obviously a very good operator. (And his own man / not just Kevin's boy)

while what you say may be true, that does not have anything to do with what gallop was saying.
read it again and take notice of "but given they have announced his signing, it seems they have accepted our ruling.''

what ruling?
have i missed something in the last 131 pages.
what connection is there between x-blades and the nrl ruling?

It was reported in the telecrap that Lote's 3 year contract is worth $1.2million…..

Even taking into account 3rd Party deals for this year.....I wonder if Lote's contract is backloaded for....2012..

You known when Lawrence, Benji, Ayshford, Moltzen and the like off contract as well....

Does anyone know actually how much Lortay gets paid out of the cap?

Judging by the quotes in the press in regards to Schubert and Gallop being in "constant negotiations", it sounds as though a good portion of his contract comes from a third party (Blades) and that his net effect on our cap would be tolerable.

Considering that we were in the position to offer Lima a contract too, there must still be room under the cap even with Lote. I would hope the the club now uses this opportunity to front-load other contracts or even out back-loaded contracts.

I think this is the closest any of us have come to learning something of this.
Myself at least.
Theyre keeping it all very quiet I think

Lote Tuqiri signs for Wests Tigers

The Daily Telegraph understands that a series of complicated third-party agreements convinced Tuqiri to return to the NRL but dragged out the negotiation process.

His signing came after three days of discussions involving Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys, who has been in England trying to seal the deal. There has been a volley of emails and calls between the Tigers boss and NRL CEO David Gallop, as well as salary cap auditor Ian Schubert, who has been in Auckland this week.

**"It has been a lesson in getting salary-cap approval well before you do a contract instead of the back-end of negotiations," Gallop said.**

Humphreys slammed the suggestion that the deal was done in October, which would have been in breach of salary cap-rules.

"I denied it then, and I deny it now. The fact is, it was done in the last couple of days. To say it was done any earlier is wrong."

Once again shows how Professional Humphreys has been through all of this…....Dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's....other Clubs should take note...

Puts to bed the rumours that it was a done deal months ago as well...........

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens winging it on new signing, Lote Tuqiri

By Ben Horne
February 05, 2010

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens is undecided on which position to play star recruit Lote Tuqiri, but concedes starting him on the wing would be a "common-sense approach".

The dual international has played on the flanks for the entirety of his career in both codes, but it's been speculated that the Tigers would prefer to use him as a fullback when he makes his NRL return in the early rounds of the season.

Is Tim Sheens on the money or is he not quite the full quid? Vote in the poll at the top-right side of the page to say where you would play Lote Tuqiri.

Sheens wasn't prepared to predict anything, but said a stint on the wing would seem logical as Tuqiri hasn't played league since 2002.

"That's a common-sense approach from him because you've got a new team and new play calls,'' Sheens said.

"In our game you can play rugby or rugby league and be a finisher without a problem.

"I think if Queensland look at him at the middle of the year at State of Origin level they'll look at him as a winger, so it won't hurt him to start there, but in saying that I'm not predicting it.''

The experienced premiership-winning coach said wing, fullback and centre were all possibilities for Tuqiri, who ended months of anticipation by officially signing with the Tigers.

Part of the reason for Sheens's uncertainty is not knowing exactly when Tuqiri will be free to pull on the black, white and gold.

The Tigers aren't banking on the Fijian-born star being back for round one, believing a debut around week four is more probable.

"Obviously wing is his normal position, but fullback and centre are other options in our game for him,'' Sheens said.

"It depends on how we're travelling when he gets here and how quickly then he settles in. I'll be sending him information and videos and so on of us, and a lot more information now that things have been done.

"We'll just have to wait and see on the time-frame, because it could be as many as four games. You're talking about four games and then possibly his travel and his settling back in at home, getting his legs again and getting training.

"He could miss five or six games by the time he's ready to play. You're not just going to fly him in on Wednesday and play him on Saturday.''

One aspect of the Tigers backline that seems certain heading into the new season, is that young gun Tim Moltzen will start the year at fullback, if Tuqiri is absent.

However, Moltzen has shown plenty of promise in the No.7 jersey as a halves partner for Benji Marshall, and Sheens has made it clear he wants to settle the Central Coast junior down in one position.

The 2009 Dally M winger of the year Taniela Tuiaki is still battling a leg injury.

Nice to see you think our CEO is a blatant liar.
Good for you.

I guess he was lying about Leicester RU, the other English & French rugby clubs being interested in him too.
He's very clever.

nope thats not me who posted that on DT website, for one the last name is spelt wrong, and no im not angry at you kul, you were one of my staunchest supporters

Its a bit naive to think that an experienced businessman wouldnt lie when it suits his business interests and so he should (subject to limitations). Apple did the exact same thing for a long time in relation to Steve Jobs health. Thats called smart business practices. Happens every single day.

I dont think too many are naive enough to suggest lying doesnt happen in all walks of life, politics, religion, sport, even Joe Blows every day hum drum saga.
However nothing Humphreys has said leads me to think its the case here….particularly when there are other organizations in the equation, Leicester RU, and other English & French RU clubs...maybe he paid them off.
