There is more to him than a lot of you think. Why would Sheens come out this week after Marika equalled the club record in just one half in just his 2nd game - a phenomena not seen at Wests Tigers in their history & say that if Lote wasn't injured that Marika wouldn't be there as he's not quiet there yet. I believe that Sheens is onto something. As a player it must feel reassuring to have Lote on the park, a dual international. The players look up to him. Why then I ask the forum don't we sign Lote on a 2 year deal & put him in the forwards. He surely does have the agility & speed to play as a forward. I haven't done the research & don't know if Lote ever played in the forwards for the Waratahs.

We have enough forwards as is plus signings for next year plus juniors coming through. I would love Lote to stay at the club, just not as a player

He has had a terrible run of injuries of late playing as a winger. I just can't see him fairing much better as a forward..
Especially when trying to convert to a different style of play and at the tail end of his career..

I dont think he's totally done and dusted just yet, but his price tag would be too high. I'm sure he realises he is in for a heavily reduced packet anyway, but I still think he'd be wanting too much for his age and injury concerns.
If he's after money then he should be looking at the Japanese Rugby Union.

Lote as some sort of coach and mentor the the up and comers - kinda like how andrew johns does "consultancy" work with clubs shelling his skills, and his wisdom.

its all good saying put him in forwards but lotes ball security and safe hands are not what it use to be when he was a bronco and his runs are not as effective anymore the defence just owns him compare to utai ?

Hopefully its bye bye lote. Thanks for the good times but your time is up. Call it quits while your ahead. I think he should go to France, Japan or ESL for the money.

Thanks for the memories Lote ! Koroibete is a machine ! I know he's only 19 , he will make the odd mistake or two , but why hold him back , if that's sheens intensions ? He will be our next cult hero as Uata is to the knights ! Bye bye lote…...........

if sheens means what he says, then i dont see marika playing ahead of lote next year either.

I think Sheens was just being diplomatic and showing respect to one of the greats of the game. In his heart Im sure he knows that Koro is the man from now on, even if he makes mistakes along the way.

I can't see any logic to keeping LT as a winger. Koroibete is the number 1 priority, and Ryan/Utai can battle for the other spot until Nofolomu comes through. I wouldn't mind seeing Lote be given a go at centre, as we are clearly lacking in that area, but if Sheens had any plans of it then he would of tried it already.

There is no way Lote has stuck his head in a Rugby Union scrum

A league scrum and union scrum are 2 completely different beasts

Keep Lote at the club as a school based liason officer \ambassador He is great with the kids

I agree Happy Tiger, Lote is a great ambassador for our club, and a role such as you suggest would be good, but I think he wants to play on, and I'm not sure if there would be a place for him in the side next season. 😛ray:

Combination of role model , mentor , talent scout (Pacific Islands) and corporate liason officer.
Keep him busy - and off the field where he'll only end up a shell of his former self.

Lote has already starting setting himself up to be a player agent when he retires from playing

Even thinking about playing lote in the forwards tells me you have no idea about rugby league, either that or your crazy.
I've got an idea lets take an old man who is riddled with injuries and has struggled to keep up with the pace of the modern game while playing on the wing, and put him in one of the most physically demanding positions on the field, yeah that will work.
I've got nothing but admiration for Lote, but i believe he has been our worst signing in the clubs history, yes i know we have signed much much worse players but they were also on much much less money . Going on the fact he was our mar-key signing and comparing the money he's been on with the amount of time he's spent on the field and then what he's contributed when on the field (i argue very little if not hindered our side at times) then i put him in the Sam Burgess category although Sam obviously has more to offer but you know what i'm saying, both of them have way too many splinters in their ass.
Call it a day lote admit age has wearied you and hang up the fluro booties.

There's no doubt Lote's days are numbered here. Koroibete's effort on Monday night only added to the doubts. However i still feel the biggest obstacle in Tuqiri staying here is not the form of others but price tag. If Tuqiri is happy to settle for something on reduced terms, i'd say we'll resign him, albeit on a one year deal. Chances are he'll get a better offer elsewhere though and move on. At his age he's entitled to seek a deal based on monetary value.

I think Sheens will re-sign one of Tuqiri or Utai, not both, and Utai clearly has the runs on the board. I think we underestimate the value in experienced players, especially with some young talent coming through. Their value is good for at least another 12 months.

We dont owe Lote anything.
He's picked up around $1.2 mill for maybe a dozen first grade performances over 3 years at the back end of his career, prior to which he was Rugbys highest paid player for many years(whivh btw resulted in a falling out with John Oneill ,who resented his reported $1+mill pa rem )
The new bloke has showed in 2 games exactly what Lote hasnt been offering for 2 seasons-pace & hunger.
We'd only employ Lote in a non playing role if there was a genuine role with a real need-he aint going broke anytime soon, believe me.
WT shld look to the future in its playing ranks..Id be appalled if an injury prone & inept 33yo Lote was re-signed in a playing role at the expense of the up & coming talent,& so shld we all
