Lote Tuqiri

A full season has gone now the question remains, is the money and effort that went into signing Lote Tuqiri worth it?

This seems a strange question - while he is far from perfect he has been excellent for the club both on and off the field!!

Given that Nella was unable to play in 2010 and Lote ended up as our top tryscorer and averaged well over 100 metres a game - it is hard to find a negative without being pedantic about defensive positioning and troubles under the high ball!

The money we spent did not force any youngsters out of the club - so it is a non-issue!

The $$$$$$$ Lortay has dragged into the Wests Tigers more than makes up for his salary….

Quite unbelievable really... 😱pen_mouth:

Everyone want a piece of Lote Tuqiri....

the bit of turf where he scored with his first touch went for 14k at the GF Luncheon...

On the field ...well i love it everytime he touches it...

What will be truly unbelievable is if the NO option gets even a single vote!

Our second option winger was Beau

As for the extended effort to sign him - this brought with it reams of unpaid publicity for the club!!!

The reason why I asked this question is because no matter how good something seems for the club there is always that element that enjoy finding the negativity in everything this club does. I just thought it would be interesting to see who thinks Lote was a waste and why.

Chris - I was not bagging you - but unless Rhys Prichard's mum votes I think it will be a landslide in favour of Lote!

The way he has fitted into our culture and bonded with the boys is almost the most pleasing aspect of his recruitment to me (as I did have my doubts about potential mega-star egos etc)!!

Most definately worth it! Lote is a triple international and the players and fans love him. :sign:

Will anyone say "no"? Probably.

Oh I know you weren't bagging me and I agree 100% with you. I'm confident all will vote yes but with some people here you just never know. This is an open forum for people to post their thoughts. If someone wants to vote no then it'll make for some interesting conversations, that's what I'm kind of hoping for.

He has been really good for us. The only thing I would like to see him improve on is sometimes he comes off his wing in defense when he shouldn't, and sometimes he doesn't when he should, and maybe improve defending against kicks but overall he has definately been worth the money.

Big yes from me. He generated a hell of a lot of media interest for the Tigers and it was all positive once he scored with his first touch of the season.

I said prior to the season starting that if Sailor could make a successful return to the NRL, Lote should go alright for us, especially on the end of our backline. I was a little worried about his Rugby League smarts especially for the first few games, and he was a bit poor positionally in those games, however he exceeded my expectations, I thought he'd be good for a dozen tries max, never expected him to bag around 20\. Like Ellis who also came to us from a different competition, he will probably get even better in his second year.

 Didn't aladinsane buy it?

No he bought Benji's something for 60k I think it was…..

Lote has been a great buy he has shown what a talented athlete he is, apart from what he achieved in the field, he has also created a lot of interest in the club as well. I have a workmate who is a rugby tragic with little time for league until Lote joined the WTs this year, he started following WTs as well this year (never thought I'd ever see it) and was very disappojnted we we misse out on the GF and was very dirty when Smith kneed Lote in the semi (I know I've gone on a bit but just wanted to make a point) about how good Lote has been for the WTs.

In all honesty who do you guys rate better a fully fit Tuiaki or Lote? imo we havent seen the will be best of Tuqiri and after a full offseason he will be better again if i had to chose i would take Tuqiri.

Could Lote become your next namesake/icon if he wins the GF (unlike Ellery) - Blackpearl????

PS - I also love Ellery after his 1988 performances for the Tiges - but in 1989 when he played for Wests - he spent more time at the Oxford Street bar/club strip with Martin Offiah than he did training!! (This is fact - but not a suggestion of homosexuality at all - both were picking up ladies le\ft & right!!!)

It is however no wonder he and Garry Schofield fell-out in that period - while they both played ordinary for Wests that year - despite being great for Balmain in previous seasons!
