Hes a young kid, he makes some mistakes, etc, but whenever he seems to do something good, it seems the rest of the team dont seem to get that excited as they do for other players?

Why dont they show love to lui?

lui lui! oi oi oi

Donny brasco… i love that movie

... i think the team gets way excited when he sets up a try or scores on himself... hes not a bad half at all...

just needs more time to be around benji & robbie is all...

I don't think it is much of a secret these days that the Tigers are cliquey - maybe Lui just needs a bit more time to become 'one of the boys'. Some people find it easier to fit in than others.

I will also say this (although I expect to be shot down by some) but I have little doubt that some of the big names in the side want Molzten in the team when he is back from injury - and the person that is most likely to make way would have to be Lui. Now I am not saying that they are trying to make Lui look bad on purpose, but I still think that some of the players are not super excited at the prospect of Lui playing well - because they want Moltz to walk back in. I don't think Lui is given enough responsibility on the field and he is often cut out of plays, or instructed to not do things. For instance I am confident that Lui has a far superior kicking game to Marshall, however Marshall stills take the main responsibility.

This is just my opinion - and by the way I have made no reference to who I think should be in the team…

I think he is a great talent but as the OP stated he is still very young. Still think he is a better five eight than half. I think in a couple of years we will be glad that we discovered Lui, I have said it before but he is the best young half I have seen come through in my many years of watching the tigers.

Lui's a poor halfback. Doesn't possess the required organisational skills of a halfback, however he's an excellent 5/8th. As far as I'm concerned, Moltzen is a better fit for balance, however if Lui went to a team with an established half such as Penrith with Luke Walsh, he'd be incredible.

Dont particularly care what postion he plays, but the kid is an absolute turnstyle in defence & costs us 6pts per game Minimum.
He probaly isnt a great fit with Benji, who needs a more "organiser "type of half back, but honestly after a full season in 1sts Ive seen nothing from Lui that suggests he is going to be a long term first grader anywhere.
He doesnt commit his body in defence, which is transparent to all(most particulraly the opposition),but he also is unwilling to draw his opposite number in attack-he simply chain passes & adds no value.Kicking game isnt too special either.
Unless something changes,& unfortunately he doesnt currently have a coach capable of perceiving & rectifying these problems,if he stays with us he's gonna end up one of those kids who starred in juniors but didnt make it in the big time.
Personally Id rather have Fulton for the remainder of the year playing in the halves with Benji to maximise this years chances, but its very much a stop gap solution.

Id like to see Sheens give him some proper responsibility before judging him. Yes, im blaming Sheens lol.

But there comes a time when u realise your 6 is better when not in constant control and you have to give your 7 the respnsiblilty to do what a halfback is supposed to do. Now is the time for Sheens to do this. Lets face it, Lui isnt going to make any more mistakes than what Benji does, so we might as well hand him the rigns and allow Benji some freedom.

Lui makes some fantastic tackles….on blokes his own size...
But anyone bigger than him bumps him off with ease....which is unfortunately 95% of the NRL.
The biggest concern for the WT is how many defensive liabilities they need to hide. Most teams can manage 1 or maybe even two at the most, but IMO the WT have about 3-4 which is just too many in this day and age of the game.
I also don't believe the crap about Lui being ousted by his team mates in plays or socially. He is a good kid and very much liked by the rest of the squad who all have helped him develop as a player and a professional athlete.

I think Lui ha all the attributes to become a fantatsic NRL half, however this is clearly not going to happen immedently. He should have spent this year going between the 20s and state cup. I seriously think playing him fulltime in first grade is only going to put his career on hold.

Lui seems like one of those guys who'll develop into a decent defender in the halves. He's not injury prone (upper body anyway) and is not really small. He's solid and with training and work will be a good enough defender for a half imo.

As a half and first grader he's doing nothing much for me.

As a u/20s 5/8 I was always on the edge of my seat

Defence….Thats just one of our key issues.
I'll even name the usual suspects....Benji ,lui,Ayshford,Fitzhenry & Lote (positional play) all need to be hidden in defence.Jeez, thats almost half the team...no wonder Souths reserves put 30 on us!
Unfortunately its hard enough to hide one, maybe two( at the most which we did in 05 by having Elford & Richards covering for them). But 4 or 5 is ridiculous to everyone & anyone ...except...the Mastercoach.Only he can do it,& maybe for another 3 years...
Aaaaargh!

If you watch even closer, you will see McKinnon's defensive positional play is pretty shocking too..

The problem is there are no halfbacks..Lui is the best of a bad lot… and News Flash there won't be anything better coming through the Wests Tigers system any time soon.
When Moltzen is back Lui obviously won't be there.

If this were in any way true, and I am not saying it is, I would be very disappointed and would hope the player(s) concerned would at the very least be shaking hands with the reserve grade coach. The players should be be doing their best not matter who is selected.
