Luke Brooks #167

He’s the opposite of Brooks at Tigers mate.

Running downhill amongst a sea of stars.

He has qualities in his game no doubt, can put on a good shot and run a good crash line in good ball.

Just don’t ask him to do the hard yakka.
How is that different from Brooks?
If DCE suffered a big injury this year, I have no doubt that Brooks would have driven that club into a bottom third of the table finish.
HE is running downhill in their setup.
Garner has earnt a place in one of the best performing football clubs the code has ever seen....despite the call from most Tiger's fans that he is shit lol....

He’s there through injury and they were shopping him earlier this year, on about 250K probably. From memory Broncos declined the offer.

Brooks is a member of a good spine and I agree, without the other key men (mainly Tommy and DCE) manly would struggle too. Because NRL success relies on a strong squad more than any other variable.

Every team needs a good steering half.
Brooks has never, ever, ever been that guy and remains not.

I’ve never argued that, the team needed to sign a marquee half many years before we jagged Luai. And the jury is still out on whether he can overcome the size of the task.
We didnt though because the perception for a long time, with fans as well as admin was that we already had one. Had this pig headed attitude not existed, the club and the player himself would find themselves in better positions today.

Not sure how true that is. Early doors we missed out on Shaun Johnson and Gareth Widdop and signed a busted Reynolds. I guess you could argue they were coming to play six.

I don’t doubt Brooks is a good bloke off the field. I’ve met people who know him personally and no one has a bad word to say about him. This is just cringe by the club though.

As a player, he was heavily overpaid and was one of many key factors in driving us into the shit heap we find ourselves in now (obviously not all of it is his fault).

His long and short kicking game were piss poor, would repeatedly blow overlaps (no game awareness), bullet passes to players right next to him etc I could go but it’s nothing that any person with a working pair of eyes has seen or read before.

You watch him play at Manly and he does the exact same shit except he has one of the greatest 1/2 and fullbacks of all to clean up his garbage. And when he was without even just one of them, the team crumbles with his decision making.

I think what really pissed off the people here were the lies, excuses and exaggerations his little fan club would use. Coaches fault x4, Benji, Farah, forwards, backs, height of the wingers, football anxiety have all been spewed on here as reasons why he struggled here. Then they would dismiss any players brought up who could replace Brooks and proceed to heap on anyone who disagreed with them under the previous team of mods.

The shane richardson comment has awoken the inner cynic in people i think it was said from a man who has a brain as well as a heart like someone said maybe it should have been a personal congrats & not gone to the pile-on public.

They absolutely were.
We already had a competent number 6 in him, we needed a halfback and were not supplied with one. As it turned out, we had one in Moses and let him walk.
I blame those that brought him through. They misjudged him as a first grade player in a horrible way.

Which part did you love most, the clear obstruction on Preston or DCE obviously not packing into the scrum?

Preston should have taken a tumble and It would have been disallowed, Brooks' pass goes to Chris Lawrence or Luke Garner like a bullet and goes to ground.

Point is that 9 times out of 10 at the Wests Tigers the try is either disallowed or results in a knock on and hand over of possession that results in the opposing team scoring at the other end of the field and the all too often 12 point turn around.

Just because it rarely comes off at the Wests Tigers doesn't mean that it can't be a thing of beauty just because the play managed to come off somewhere else.
