Luke Brooks #167

As I have maintained throughout, Brooks is a NRL level halves player and has been for more than a decade. No if, no buts.

I support all local juniors over relatively equal outside candidates for WT roster and all of them that haven't back doored the club that are playing elsewhere, unless it's against us. Brooks is such, so I wish him well this weekend playing finals footy, something that our club couldn't do.

I honestly do not know how anyone can hate the guy.

Local junior, gave it all here for 10 years. We tried turning him into what we needed him to be and not what his strengths were.

He didn't quit on us when others did, he gave us plenty of notice and didn't string us along to get a better offer elsewhere. He never bagged us, never threw mud at anyone. I cannot blame anyone for not wanting to be coached by someone without any experience and in a team coming last year on year.

I'll be cheering him on.

I've started to feel like WT are not even a part of the NRL competition. The only connection we have to the actual comp is when our ex players play in the big games.

Problem is that Brooks was playing at 7 with the Tigers for years when he is a natural 6.

Siebold tried him at 7 when DCE was out and Brooksie did all the lame things at 7 Tigers fans know him for, and Manly lost. The next time DCE was out, Siebold used a young player at 7 and he, and the team, went well.

He is also kicking better now, getting more distance with his long kicks. DCE is probably mentoring him and teaching him how to kick. All he needed was to play with a decent 7.

He was a 6, Moses was the 7 in Jr's. Knobheads/loser culture running the club though. 🙄

I couldn't give a shit how he goes, he's dead to me. No longer a tiger.

The hate is from a decade of playing Luke, a proven loser at the steering wheel, game after game and the enabling of the Stockholm syndrome fans on here cheering that decade long losing like it was ok.

No other club would have persisted with a decade long failing but the tigers sure did. Blind Freddy knew he wasn't a half backs asshole but played there with zero accountability forever. Not his fault. The club should have let him go when he wanted out yet due to paying him 200% over what he was worth they were obliged to pick him the last few years even though he was tanking every game. Showed zero loyalty to a club paying him way overs for years and jumped ship as soon as another offer came up.

Richo signing and Brooks not resigning to get Jerry in the club are the best 2 'signings' the joint has ever made.

So he is disloyal for not re-signing but everyone agrees that he shouldn't have re-signed anyway.

Here’s a question for all of the ”They‘d rather see Brooks succeed than our club” crowd. Right, we’re out, not playing finals, so how far Manly go doesn’t impact on us. I don’t care who wins it from here on out, but lets just say someone decided to get behind Manly cos they want to see Brooks have some success, is that any different than adopting some other club in the finals for some random BS reason?

Overall, I couldn’t care less how he goes personally, I don’t dislike the guy as much as the next grub who plays for manly.

I kinda hope he fails so the people like anasta can shove it. He hasn’t played any better or worse than he did for us. Does some good stuff, tries hard, almost makes a break or play, but has a coach killing clanger too.

He just has some elite match winners around him to prop him up. Always been an average first grade half who was overpaid at the tigers.

One of our posters has an unhealthy obsession with Brooks and should seek professional assistance. Brooks has gone willingly and so let it go. I hope he achieves some success with the Eagles but all this rumination about Brooks is not worth it.

He was never lowballed. He got offered market value after coming off a contract in which he was one of the highest paid players in the game and performed worse than our 18 year old rookie did this year.
Just to be clear

Market value is the estimated monetary worth of an asset on the open market at a particular time. It is based on: the most valuable use of the asset (which may be different to how it is currently used) the amount that a willing buyer and seller would agree to in an arm's length transaction

Given Manly paid more than we offered, I'd suggest we offered less than market value

Agreed, Waxing lyrical about how great Brooks is after years of shit produced on the field and than admitting to attending family BBQs with Luke is a bit rich. Upvoting anything positive said about Brooks and posting on Manlys forum about how great he is, obsessively unhealthy indeed. I couldnt agree more.

You hate the guy... yet you go on to give reasons that have nothing to do with him.

Brooks didn't work out for us, you saw that, I saw that... everyone saw that. How can I hate him for being picked every week by every coach he has had over the time? Every coach picked him. Management backed him. He gave everything he could and remained loyal to the club. None of that is his fault.

We can all agree him leaving the Tigers was best for both - but to name-call and hate the guy is extremely excessive and unfair.

It is a theme around here, a very immature trait.
