Considering last night the Anasta/Austin halves combo worked brilliantly, I would like to see us continue with these two in the halves and ease Brooks into the game off the bench. Brooks is still 19 and it will definitely be too much pressure for him to start at halfback in every one of our games this season. I would like to see:

6\. Anasta
7\. Austin

14\. Brooks

Where Brooks can come on for Anasta roughly on the 20 minute mark and come off on the 60th minute, he is a little guy so he can take advantage of the tired big men on the field. I think it could turn out to be a great move but many of you will disagree. Bring on the hate :sign:

I admire that you have a different opinion on a lot of things and are brave enough to express it, but there is no way Anasta should be a starting half based on a win against a half strength Penriff side. That is madness. Brooks and Austin please.

I don't think we'll see Brooks in round 1 and I don't think that's a bad thing. If he isn't 100% fit I don't see the need to rush him in. Especially if he's carrying a back injury.

Fair enough CB but Anasta is definitely worthy of another chance in first grade, Austin and Brooks together havent even played 20 games of first grade, Anasta wont be playing NSW Cup round 1 and that is guaranteed, experience is needed in our team and he provides that + great leadership skills, hes needed in the team.

Luke looks like a player who builds himself into a game… Starting from the bench might be a good way to give him experience, but I don't feel he is an 'impact' type of player.

Austin will be in Reggies unless we have injuries!

Good to see you returning to start threads after your break.

You may well be correct, however, I don't think so.

Like the thought process, but Brooks is a genuine halfback who controls the game from start to finish, particularly with his kicking. If he's fit, I think he needs to start.

I do think this role might suit Mitchell Moses when he is ready for the step up - he's lightning quick, got great footwork and can come into the game in the halves, hooker or at fullback like Barba did for the Dogs when he started in the top grade.

No.

Brooks to start please.

He doesn't need easing into the game. He started in his debut and dominated in every area. Easing not required.

Who else was out for penrith. Idris soward and Wallace. Maybe a couple others. Would they have made that much difference.

initially i thought you were crazy, but i can see where you are coming from. It definitely worked with keary and he will be a better and most importantly a FIT player in 2014.

however, what you are doing by putting brooks on the bench is compromising our pack. Unlike Souths, we can't afford to give up a forward in favour of a back; we are already struggling to compete properly there

It worked for Souths because their forwards were doing their job…going forward, they were able to sacrifice a forawrd replacement for a half

How many games did Foran and DCE have under their belts when they debuted in the halves for Manly together? The reality is that if they are good enough, they should be there.

sorry but liam foran and DCE were and are a far better combo than austin and brooks. If moses was heavier, then you could make that argument but austin was stuck behind average halves at penrith.

I think we have to wait and see a long while prior to stating we have halves anywhere near as good as Foran and DCE.

I also would like to see Moses get some quality game time. I hope he is going to be our 6 and Brooks the 7 for a long while.

I think Austin will get more first grade game time then most think. Potter has already said that Brookes will be the starting half but I think that he will miss a number of games through injury and possibly form.

I can't believe some of you are even considering leaving Brookes out or starting him from the bench. You are all lost.

He will start at 7\. As any sane coach in the NRL would do. If he doesn't he is injured and won't be playing at all.

Also anasta played well last night and some of you need to accept that. He suffered last year because he was outside B. Marshall. That's all. Yes penrith were under strength but not that bad. They probably had maybe 1 or 2 more players out than us.

Put him next to someone competent and he can play. Hence the reason why a 1st grade coach is selecting him and putting faith in him to lead.

Our fantastic problem now is the battle between anasta and Austin for a starting spot. But I think come round 1 both will be in the 17.

I never said they weren't better? Simply stating that persisting with young halves who have little FG experience between them can pay off. You don't need an old head there. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

Dude Austin had a serious foot injury by the time he got some games together panthers season was gone. So they tried winning nsw cup with him there. Should Be Austin 6 brooks 7
