Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

Maybe even 4 with Madden ?

Correct. I hope Madge is the right coach because there are some big decisions to be made. It's similar to the big 4 situation in that we have to make the right bets on our team now. I think our cap is in a much better position though.

Yeah, lots of talent but not the equal amount of positions available.

Madden proving he's more than backup/ cup player...

Also, big wraps on Camroux coming through.
Named in cup today and talks of a development deal next year.

I'd like to see us use our development deals a bit better - Spread them out all over the field.
and be a little more selective.

As it is, We're loaded with back rowers...
Having 3-4 kids all of the same standing in the same position doesn't make sense to me.
Even the last crop, We had a couple outside backs... A middle and Half.

I've said it before, We seem to throw them at kids - And have had limited results...
I'd prefer to throw them at talent around Q Cup - Maybe England / PNG.... Even America.
Lot of money to throw at a kid that has a real possibility of never playing grade.

Reckon guys like Andy Davey etc. came through on Development deals....
Even Rankin was on one at Parra last year (I think)

Well if you believe what Pom says...

They're thinking
Camroux (half)
Scolari (winger)
Kautoga (backrow)

Unlike this year's which was 3 backrowers.

Hear what you're saying though.

Nothing has changed from my thoughts at the beginning of the season, being that the stengths and weaknesses of Brooks/Hastings would compliment to work as a halves combination, and Doueihi would contribute elsewhere when available for selection. He can also capably fill in there if required.

Interesting to read that the club was looking at the 13 for Adam and he may well end up there as he has attacking and running attributes that work in many positions. Though him fulfilling the defensive workload requirements at lock are a concern for me.

He has struggled in that important aspect of the game in every other position that I have watched him play, particularly reads, but I suppose that he will be less exposed to speed and footwork in the middle.

Brooks's kicking game has been unreal these last 3 weeks. Never seen him kick as well as he is doing at the moment. It seems that now that he can pick and choose when to insert himself in the game, he is finally finding that spark that he lost from his younger days.

The only thing is he missing is sensing linebreaks and being there to capitalise on them. Cody Walker is the best player in the league at doing this. He always seems to be there when someone pokes their nose through. If Luke can work this out, we have one hell of a player on our hands. Big question if he can do so, because opposition defences don't make it easy for support runners.

He will never be ‘one hell of a player’.
He can be useable though.

On Doueihi, 13 will be his most effective position long term.
However having him play 6 and centre the past couple of years he would be best off staying out wide and transitioning to an edge back rower.
I’m not sure his running game would be as effective in the middle of the field, and he still has the option from that spot to link with a sweeping half / fullback or a short ball to the right centre.
That’s my Sheensius call for the day.
Break the system, go away from the dedicated ball playing lock and have a ball playing team. In the middle and both edges.
I’d really consider 11. Papali’i 12. Doueihi and 13. Joffa as our backrow next year.

Brooks has been close to our mom in each game since moving to 6. I still think Doueihi would best fit into the team at 13, but JO is playing so well.
It will be interesting to see how the team attacks later in the year. I think many coaches may have a more structured approach early in the season with more focus on defence, but then as a kind of reward for effort allow some freedom to play heads up. This is when we’ll see the real Brooks, and hopefully his short kicking game?

Don't be surprised if Newcastle ups the stakes to have Brooks in their colors for next year, they wanted him this year but Mr Sheens stopped that,as he understood that are halves were very lean to say the least......watch this space?

It was expected they would keep trying and ramp it up toward the end of this season if they haven’t found another solution.
Brooks would see what’s happening at Knights and doubt he wants to jump into that? Maybe Joey is not the tutor he needs?

A little rumor going round the grounds in Newcastle, is that not all is well regarding all the players and Coach only.

People only need to look in the public arena to see that.
Not a good look when the captain is laughing and consoling the coach (who’s about to crumble) in the after game presser, following a 50-2 whitewash.
One of the halves who has been playing well, now apparently has an emotional issue? The forwards have gone soft..it’s a mess. Is Seibold on his way back?

Have to wait and see what Slothfield has to say about that since he is the main flog pushing his man Flanno,i wouldn't be suprised if he starts a push for the Newie job for him especially as he could bring his sprog half back with him

Madge has been copping it, but Buzz hasn’t touched any of the other coaches doing worse than us. Sticky is untouchable, they’ll have a wheelchair with his name on it at Raiders. Think you’re right O’Brien is the soft target for the Flanno activists.
I just can’t see Brooks wanting to get mixed up in all that drama.

Madge is the only coach in Sydney....
Buzz and him lemmings don't want Flanno to have to move away too far
- Yknow.....
