Certainly agree with Marzie… I care if he goes, the last time we had a great no7 I had a full head of hair and let me tell you that was a few years ago. Okay he is not a great no7 yet, but within another season he will be

SC, have you been reading tea leaves again? Hope your right.

Are you guys serious when you say let him go, who cares etc? Or just sick of hearing about it? Seriously how could you be happy if he left he's the best halfback we've had in 10 years… My mate who went to school with Luke says its just the same old media speculation and that he loves the Tigers and doesn't want to leave. I've not seen any article to suggest otherwise it's all just spin. Headlines with no context. You've just got to ignore it until we get to June and he commits to the Tigers the media will shut up then

I never said who cares or that he's certain to leave. I imagine that we'll offer a sensible contract he will stay. If rival clubs offer overs and he goes, that is his prerogative. It will suck, but that's footy these days. What I don't want is the club jeopardising it's cap over one player. I'm really looking forward to seeing how DCE's contract affects Manly in the coming seasons.

I agree CB , how Manly have managed to get Myles , Taupau , Dylan Walker , Koroisau , Lewis Brown , Darcy Lussick is truly a work of Art…...while we have to be content with player signings such as : Ballin , Grant , Edwards with past NRL pedigree.
Mind you i think they are great Bargain signings no doubt and i must say JT has done a great job with what his had to work with , but in terms of big name signings ? will just have to wait to get ourselves sorted.

Same goes for Parra's signing spree over the last 2 off seasons, and they think they can still fit Hayne in, we suck big time at these type things, this is where we need to improve and fast.

Hopefully our new General manager Mark O'neill, will improve the clubs recruiting and retention side of things.

Your two posts are spot on Supercoach.

Makes you wonder why you play by the rules, doesn't it?

It was some sort of equal playing field (apart from the rorters) until they brought in TPA's which is just a legalised form of cheating. Unless they do away them, teams like us i.e. the strugglers will always be disadvantaged no matter how much they get from TV rights.

Speaking of TV, now there is another huge anomaly - a team like Brisbane is on TV nearly every week - how much do they get for that as opposed to us who maybe get 5-6 games per year if we are lucky?

As you say - we have done it to death. Little man suffers as in all walks of life.
We just have to toughen up, can't see them changing the system any time soon especially with a bunch of Boofheads in charge.

You know why we play by the rules Russell? Because we'd likely get caught out if we did engage in it. We're a two bit club that has a history for leaking like a sieve. That, and we likely cannot afford to rort the cap anyway.

TPA's are not legalised cheating if done correctly. It feels like the millionth time I've said this, but you cannot stop someone making money from their IP. I'm sure all clubs have a hand in negotiating TPA's when they shouldn't but to say they should be outlawed completely is a restraint of trade and that IS illegal.

I do agree that all player spends and TPA's should be transparent.

We would get nabbed for sure CB if we participated.

I will explain my legalised cheating statement.

Not saying TPA's as such are cheating - I was getting at that, it is a more uncontrolled spending for clubs to throw more money at players and have more loop holes to get away with it.

Take your point of restraint of trade - and if the TPA,s are declared as they should it is open to rorting just the same as it was without it. So you can't win.

Maybe all payments should be made to the NRL and paid onto the players by them. May make any other payments to players more traceable.

Certainly a big problem for us though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a fact that the salary Cap itself is a restraint of trade, and that if it was to be actually challenged in court again, the NRL would lose.
The only reason that both the NRL and the afl hasn't been challenged is that the players entered into some sort of agreement not to.
Not 100% sure about those facts, but pretty sure that it's still a restraint of trade,

In a manner of speaking it is, but there's nothing stopping players from using their image to top up their salaries via third parties.

A-League has a salary cap as well.

Until we all start using our OWN juniors (and not poaching) good experienced players from other clubs this will always be a problem.
These young blokes also need to be a bit honourable and stick by the club they played their footy with during there junior years, instead of leaving for more money (or even just because the club that wants them is potentially a GF winning club)- if they stick with us we will eventually win a GF - with their help, so come on guys stay at our club we need you :righton:

I reckon so too TM. I also think we might have finally found someone that Robbie might show some respect to.

Mate these days both the players and the clubs are in it for themselves. Being honourable and loyal went out the window years ago. You do what best for yourself and for what ever reason.

Usually players do stick around because they are comfortable playing and training with their mates, but that is changing a bit now

This will be Buckets 1st real major test, junior retention.

Next will be how he goes in the player market to recruit externally.

Given we are coming out the other end of salary cap issues it's imperative we purchase smartly and not get over excited we have some money finally.

Buckets was tempered off and on the field - let's hope this occurs with his player recruitment as well.

I reckon if we can somehow get Adam Reynolds and Michael Macguire in a package deal we go for it.

Reynolds would be a more experienced partner for Moses and would benefit with reynolds 90% goalkicking and Macguires coaching record speaks for it himself.

Macguire and Pascoe were spotted having dinner apparently.

Brooks to Storm to help his career and Cronk to Souths. While we get Reynolds. I reckon everyone benefits.

Brooks is signed for 2017 anyway so he cant go anywhere unless we benefit from a trade or something

Brooks and co want to win premierships and play in rep teams. Staying at struggling club like the Tigers it is hard to achieve those goals. Hence they want out. As explained to me. I've been told it is not about the dollars but the above reasons

They weren't worried about the Struggling Tigers when the Struggling Tigers signed them up on mega contracts before they'd barely played first grade….

If we weren't paying them double what they're worth, Maybe we wouldn't be struggling?

Holy make too much sense batboy!

2017 is an option in _HIS_ favour…meaning he can decide whether to stay or go for 2017.

Yeah it's appalling roster management giving both halves options in their favour, meaning the club has no control over its future until they've made their decisions. Extending their deadline until June was not wise either. If they're going to go then we need to know sooner rather than later so we can enter the market for replacements. If they leave we'll end up like the poor old Titans this year after the DCE backflip, except we'll have brought it upon ourselves…

I hope they both stay. The club has been nothing but generous to them over the last few years and that should mean something.

There is a reason why our former CEO was asked to leave.

Kid could have just changed his mind…I probably wouldn't know what to do if I was him either.

Play with my mates like Milone and Moses or join another more professional organisation with more stability.

If he plays ANY footy with milone this year it means he is in new cup OR the Tigers will get the spoon

The big 4

Lol… Milone looks out of place

I'm guessing he can only afford a Lowes suit on his contract.

In one of those FB posts they mentioned Macguire to Tigers, Ivan Cleary to Souths. I guess you read into these posts what you want as they generally are way off.

One of the guys I play touch footy with is good mates with Madge. Next time I see him, I'll try and get some gossip out of him. I have a hunch the coach swapping merrygoround is just speculation on fans behalf.
I think Buckets needs to work on signing up our spine for the long term future. That should be priority number 1
