Big bucks for Brooks
The Wests Tigers have tabled halfback Luke Brooks a $2.7 million three-year offer as the club looks to out-bid rival suitors poaching the local junior. Via foxsports

Imo $900,000 a year is a bit high for Brooks. Whats he on now $550,00 you would think he would be happy with $750 - 800,000\. But hopefully he puts pen to paper and we can concentrate on filling the last position.

I thought we were just dotting I’s and crossing T’s? Announcement imminent? Seems we are rowing backwards.

And yes, I am impatient- I want this kid locked up. He’s a great player imo.

Is 900k a season a bit steep for Brooks? At the moment, I would have to say yes.
BUT Brooks has been on the scene for what feels like a lifetime and he is only 23 (24 in a month) which I think means that he still has a lot of improvement left in him.
I think a 4/5 year deal sounds a lot smarter because if we can lock him up in those peak years, we can really build a strong roster around him and hopefully get some good finals runs going.

Spot on, $900k a year is too much, but we maybe reap the rewards in the back half of the contract

Desperation Imo there is no way I would pay that .. that is a lot of money for someone that does little in the red zone ..most will be happy with the signing at that price .. hopefully a topline 5/8 is signed for the organising side of things .

Whilst you will be probably lambasted for that comment, I tend to agree

I bet the Roosters, Storm and Warriors would pay that sort of money for him.

I thought we would be paying him 750k with extra tpas. Honestly he hasn't earned 900k.

He played well last year but we still were the 2nd worst attacking team I'm the comp. Some of that has to come back on brooks.

I hate paying overs….

I'd love to know what was offered to Brooks recently before all this current feeding frenzy I.e when he was supposedly locked up and going to sign an extension. If this current offer is comfortably above that and he (or in other words Moses) continues to string us along for more money- no thanks- Brooks can go and Moses can stick it where the sun don't shine. ENOUGH…....

Well, we don't know any details, so there may well be some TPAs in that $900,000.

900 is about the going rate for a no7 who won the no7 of the year award in his last season. There would be a probably at least 4 no7s getting that much or more

I bet they would not seriously bid for him at all. He is sussy in attack and defence.

Top dollar for Brooks - if that is correct. With that comes expectation. Hope he is up for it.

Well Madge refers to him as our marquee payer so yeas he would be our game breaker ….. hmmmm not sure that he is there yet!
Definitely some risk in that purchase at almost 1/13th of our cap.
Almost wish we get outbidded on this one. But then that’s just me .... always looking at a value buy that you don’t end up regretting.
I’m not sure what the contract offered is but if it’s incentive based and includes TPAs then by all means.

You're wrong on the bidding front.

The question for me is; If not Brooks, then who?
We can build on Brooks who already has working relationships/combinations with most of the squad.
Do we pay him market value or go back to square 1.
My inclination is to pay him market value and move forward.
