Well, there you go. Basically confirmed that Benji got in his way and overcalled him.

I felt that was the case too, but for Brooks to come out and say that feels like he’s making excuses.

I’ve been a Brooks fan but he needs to grow up and take accountability.

The alternative thought of course is - what if he is telling the truth and not making excuses.

Luke was the DallyM halfback of the year 3 years ago , our player of the year , the year before last , and had a down year last year . Some of you guys do my head in . So hard to live up to your asinine , and downright ridiculous expectations . Seriously watch the games last years . Sooo many times , Luke had the play set up , was screaming for the ball , Benji screams the overcall word , because every team has one ( basically it’s a spur of the moment I see something and it’s on . It’s to allow off the cuff footy) , so because of this the dummy half has to pass to benji , and most of the time nothing happens .
Go watch it . It got so bad , Grant actually stopped looking for Brooks first , which is what was supposed to happen , and just going to benji.

Absolutely spot on Mate - I was so angry in many games.

Many try opportunities were butchered by our "Legend" because he was trying to add to it instead of playing for the team.

Look I don’t want to denigrate people , as I know just speaking to some mates who have followed the game their whole life , but never actually truely are paying attention to the more strategic side. So it comes across as holier than thou when you talk about this stuff . Which I don’t want to because , we all should be able to enjoy what we’re watching .
In saying that , it bothers me with this stuff .As I think Luke’s a great footballer . I think he’s better than Cleary , and most of the leaves out there. What he doesn’t have that Keary and even Mitch Moses have , is that rabbit out of a hat , play. But neither did Sterling. I’m not comparing the 2 , I’m just using a legend as reference to what I’m talking about . Maybe I’ve pitched my flag to Luke Brooks island. Maybe I’m wrong about how good he is.
But what I’m not wrong about is , the overcalling ,the going away from the game plan , crap , that we did last year . We were supposed to grind teams out , and it wasn’t coincidence , that in the back half we looked like a less good late 2000s tigers team.

Finally , once again , watch Liddle when he went into dummy half . His first option was Luke . Always Luke . Because it was supposed to be Luke’s team . Grant got bamboozled by the legend , and the low percentage magic.. Which is fair enough. But it doesn’t win you too many games in 2020. And it hasn’t , for a very long time .

Our biggest issue is defence, not our halves. Our opponents simply switch their attack to our right where they know the defensive liabilities are situated. Fix that and there is a pretty good chance we make the final 8. There are some players that need to take ownership of their individual and collective crap defence and fix it during the off season. The two I am referring to have been in the NRL for years. I would much rather watch rookies make rookie mistakes but learn and improve from the experience than have to see two experience players repeat the same mistakes again and again.

The Roosters are struggling to find a good halves pairing. We need to be a realistic and understand there is a shortage of quality halves across the NRL. We are lucky we have Brooks, Doueihi, Mbye and young Madden.

I agree, Luai the pick, but i think Tigers are wisely seeing how things develop with the current squad and juniors before buying others.Madden as well as others come off contracts next year, there will be many changes.

No Benji for 2021, this time next season I hope there are no more excuses on why Brooks is not performing and we are all talking about a contract extension.

Agree ,the dominate person at training is a powerfull influence on who gets the ball on game day.Its no secret who of the two was more dominant.

Gee, thanks for the lesson in 'strategy' - but it wouldn't be too hard to overcall Brooks when he's gone into hiding somewhere on the other side of the field.
Hence being dropped to the bench.
Brooks problem is he can't be assertive - even though, year after year, he says it's his team.
Maybe it's because he can't see the holes ... but he should want the ball in his hand all the time.
Every year I hope he gets it together ... still waiting.

Edit- that's why i think both moses and brooks compliment each other. They struggled early on in first grade but I think they would still be good together now with a few years under their belt.

Why the hell are you talking about ? What excuses ? I’m not making excuses . I’m stating facts . This whole conversation shouldn’t even be a thing ! It’s makes no sense . Go back and see how Dally M halfbacks of the year are running around right now . It’s not many .
What your saying implies that he’s been a passenger since he debuted . Which has no foundation in reality . He’s done more than enough to earn his money , and his standing in the team .

It’s like when some of you whinge about the mid field bomb. Do you hav any clue as to what it’s for ? It’s a strategy every half uses , but yet when he does it , it’s bag city .
His defence is elite for a half . His speed is elite for a half . His short ball is elite for a half . His long kicking game is average . In fact early on in his career he used to kick to the corners a lot , you know why he doesn’t do it ? Because field position is key , and his coaches want to attack with defence . And if your tackling someone who’s on the back foot , you can put pressure on them. Wingers and fullbacks are so good positionally that , you might find the grass , what one out of every 3 kicks to the corner , and then what ? 2 out of 3 times your defence is dealing with a 100kg speed machine , with a head of steam .
But cause it doesn’t look pretty people jump up and down .

Oh my god! lol . No I’m not . I’m referring to actual calling for the ball and not getting it , because there’s a dude on the other side who will go down as one of the greatest to ever play the game , and OVERCALLs so much !
And if you over call back , then what happens ? A power struggle . It wasn’t brooks , it was benji not going with the plan , which is fine , I get it , because he’s who he is , and he’s backing himself . But where does that leave brooks .
I’ll tell you where . Getting told he has no leadership .
It’s a loop, that always ends up back where it starts.
So we’ve broken the loop , now. And I think Brooks will prove me and many who agree with me right .

Well if he isn't a top NRL halfback in 2021 surely it's over, time to find a new one for 2022. I hope he kills it also, will be ecstatic to see.

That is pretty much it in a nutshell, it’s judgment day for Brooks next year, no more excuses

Every fair minded supporter could see it, only the Brooks bashers and Benji lovers ignored it

What confuses me about the whole Benji thing is that he played alongside Benji in 2019 and 2018 too and he had no issues. Not saying it wasn’t a factor but some of the blame has to go to Brooks himself. When he had the ball he certainly was doing the same things he did in years previous. No excuses at all for him in 2021 that’s for sure, if he can get back to 2018-2019 form it will do us a world of good because he was excellent in those two seasons

If Brooks was in Storm or Rooster sides he would have won competitions he is a good halfback, his forwards have been average for a few years now so he should get more go forward in 2021. Also have attacking threats of Joey L, Jet, Nofo etc out wide
