Speaking ahead of Sunday afternoon’s blockbuster Manly vs Parramatta game, which can be seen on sports streaming service Kayo, Moses condemned the relentless media criticism which has been directed at Brooks this season.
“It was really unwarranted, to be honest,” Moses said.

“You’ve got to expect the criticism I guess, when you play halfback in a first-grade side … when your team’s losing, all the criticism goes to you.

“But I think it was really unwarranted. It’s a team effort, and for all the pressure to go on him was pretty stupid.

There is more than one type of successful halfback.
If you only have 2 or 3 good attacking players on your team they are easily marked.
If your forwards don't win the ruck or make metres, your halves and backs will have no time or space.

There is a difference between defending someone against unreasonable attacks and thinking they are the best player in the game.

Foregoing your biggest strength was / is madness ....and I've said it for 2 years now

Running is great if you have support for a break or a half break, but Brooks is the only reliable support player we have. He is following a game plan, which looks to me like controlling the middle, calling the plays, getting the ball to Laurie or Mbye/Doueihi and supporting up the middle.
I think expecting to him to fill those roles and make the breaks is unrealistic and why we have other attacking players. He should still run, but maybe 5-10% of the time.

Also Doueihi is a running 5/8 so Brooks would run less when paired with him and more when paired with a ball playing 5/8 like Mbye.

I agree with Madge…Brooks is coming into his prime now. He will be better over the next 3 or 4 seasons than he ever has been.

We need to win games though. I have no problems with Brooks as our halfback but we need better players in other positions because he is only ever going to be a system halfback. He is a cog in a machine who can do a lot right and not get caught out but he isn't going to be the player you rely on to win your competitions.

He is nowhere near as bad as the criticism he receives at times. We just gotta make sure his contract dollars reflect his ability.

Earl, I have to disagree, I think Brooks can win games for the team and he proved that with a long range field goal to give us a win against the Bulldogs. Madge will eventually get the best from him, I honestly believe that.

I have a theory on the phantom St. George offer for Mbye.

The club must've leaked the story to try and convince someone, anyone, that there's interest in him.

A bit like when you're selling a used car and you tell people there's someone coming in the arvo to buy it.

I can't see any club in Australia paying more than 120k for him, which leaves us stuck with him.

Super League is the only hope.

Unless a player swap is involved that benefits us then we cover the difference. Issako for Mbye gives us a big win in a position we have a major shortage.

Interestingly Mbye has been shoved from pillar to post while with us hence the versatility he shows in different positions,but not given a run in his favoured halves position because the icon was there...
In my opinion,Mbye has always turned up for us and has done his best when put in the team,he has never tanked,speaks highly of the players and coaches and reps the club well..
Peter Stirling summed up Mbyes game against the Knights "he was put in the halves and AD shifted to the centres,Moses played beautifully and it was a Madge masterstroke"....
I think Sterlo would know a fair bit about the game and players...

This stats indicate another of our weaknesses, while Brooks’s meters kicked does not look bad, our kick chase is often slow, and we leave too many holes in defence as we we don’t move in the straight line.
