Back on subject..Brooks must be regarded as being one of the top 3 or 4 halves in the NRL?
On any measure he’s been outstanding for us. I think his form has improved as a result of our forwards winning the fight for control of the centre? Looking forward to Brooksy showing Moses how a half can play.

I thought giving back some of Brooks’ options has helped. Needs a Garner/Blore outside him that will just run straight hard lines, giving him the options to pass short, out the back or to run himself. Had Lawrence doing this for him the first half of his career and as much as I love Lucy that’s just not his game. Finally having targets to aim for on the edges in Douhiei and Talau have had to of helped as well.

Except Lawrence would knock on 9 times out 10.

Cue the Lawrence purists to tell me Lawrence was a great club man

Brooks would throw Rowdy some horrible passes, little wonder he couldn't catch them all, even the commentators would say Brooks should of just took the tackle

Definitely wasn't at his best the last few years of his career, but you can't say he's not a great clubman.

Man looks like a different person now, thanks to putting his body on the line for the club in training and during games for 15 seasons.

Benji was cocky and thought he was running the show, it led to holding Brooks back, reducing his confidence and not letting him play his normal game that he's capable of.

How dare Benji do that.

5/8's at other clubs dont ever try and play well.

There is no substitute for pace and Brooks getting on the outside of his opponent to put Garner into space was a highlight. The way also he put Blore into space by stepping back inside and then skipping to the outside was very clever. With Sheens coming onboard I have little doubt Brooks' game will come on further.

Brooks pace from the halfback position gives our attack a point of difference. Particularly if the forwards are winning the rack as they have done the last few weeks.

Brooks, Laurie, Liddle & Mbye is a very quick spine.

Liddle is quicker than I thought, considering that long range try against Panthers. Talau was beside him when he took off but had to give up after Lids streaked away.

I mean he outran Staines who’s supposed to be a speedster

Hookers never used to be known for their speed over a bit of distance. Robbie scored a couple of long range tries too. Regarding Staines inability to run him down.. I see players are reluctant to tackle low from behind because of inexperience, so they need to get closer. It seems odd to me that the same players will dive to score but not to grab a boot?

Liddle holds his top speed pretty well ...Brooks did too

Many rugby league players get to their top speed very quickly but after 20-30 metres they can't hold it

That’s what I liked about Tuiaki, he would just keep getting faster the further he went. James Roberts is faster than him over 40 but Tuiaki is faster over 100.

Was more about giving the bloke options and keeping the defence in 2 minds rather than scoring just off the short ball. I’m not a particularly big fan of it but can’t deny its one of Brooks pet plays.

Yeah some of that was definitely on Brooks, I’m not sure if it was because he was under constant scrutiny for lacking creativity and he would try to throw the money ball every single time or not .

He plays a lot better when he’s calm and just gets the basics right first

It was great to see Staines give up when Liddle was pulling away. Liddle is rewarding us for the patience we’ve shown in his injuries and rehab, great to see him re-signed. His fitness was way below par early in the season after such a long layoff and he was throwing so many forward passes out of dummy half but I believe he’s turned the corner again now that he’s fit.

Brooks is confident in Mbye's defense & Mbye makes a lot of tackles and he hits hard too. Mbye is a great link player too, great passing game at 5/8, and that has given Luke more freedom to run. Run deep into the line, back up and cover defend.
The team seems well coached, when I have watched a game replay a few times, you can see that the team is going through the same set play a few times untill it works and a try comes off, In Friday nights game the 1st and the last tries you can see this and the bomb and batt back is being used well.
Their defense is a massive mystery to me, how in the last two weeks there has been an such an enormous improvement over the previous efforts, we were told that they would make a structural change at training. The defense has been improving quickly, to being very impressive in the last game.
I hope they can bottle that structural change, it would make a heap.

We have benefited the last 2 weeks by teams not being ready for the changes we have made in defence. This weekend will be more of a challenge as Parramatta play a bit deeper and that negates our more aggressive defence a little.

It looks like the defence was up and in structure , with the middles maintaining position . To me it looks like they’ve compressed the middle , then depending on which direction the play goes , the backs slide and middles decompress to cover the edge forward , who is sliding on the inside .

I could be wrong , but that’s what I’m seeing anyways .

nothing line speed and dominant tackles can't fix. we can't be passive with both Moses and Brown, they showed how dangerous they can be last week if teams back off them. seeing Waqa in their side actually gives me hope, he cannot defend to save his life. Doueihi should have a field day. we'll win this game if our starting middles can hang in there against RCG, Paulo and Brown. if we can manage that I think our bench will win the power game.

Yeah we were holding players upright in the tackle to slow the play the ball. That is why we were seeing a passive defence and a lot of arm grabs. It was very noticeable in the Dragons game, they expected us to be passive in defense which is why they had such a flat attacking line. We played with more line speed and were disrupting their attack for 3/4 of the game.

No I agree, just noting that Parra will be deeper so it won't be as easy as the last 2 weeks.

This game wont be an easy task, however if Brooks and Mbye hold their form as well as the forwards going forward the way they have, then Parra may find it wont be an easy game as the Knights was...

Actually line speed becomes more important ...if you can hit them before the ad line it makes it harder for teams to create 2nd phase and then it gives your back 3 more time to react to them replying with a short kicking game close to the line as well

yeah man I know, I was agreeing with you! our defensive structures the past few weeks have actually resembled an NRL side for a change.
