Maybe we should shut this thread down and have a thread called, “the other 16 players”. Those guys are winners. 😜

Opposition have nothing to worry about with that potential spine.

Hastings could be a gun. If he is we look a lot better.

Think he will be great for us, stoked we signed him.. Him and Ads are real competitor's with voices.

Reynolds had a voice. How’d that work out?

We don’t need Johnny Farnhams, we need leaders.

We don’t have any.

We need a a top 8 forward pack. Atm it is no more than bottom 2. With the cattle we have if we don’t get wooden spoon it has been a great year. Lets not kid ourselves, a broom is what is required. There is only a handful I would keep if we wanted to be anywhere near the top 8. I would start first with the forwards, our weakest link!

I don’t believe Hastings will be a stop gap , I believe he may prove a few wrong on hear , time will tell , we can make a call on him after about 10 rounds to be fair to him , at present we don’t have a real leader , maybe he becomes that player , again time will tell , I also agree with some on hear we also need another big body to assist Stef , that would also help the halves

Brooks just needs to take the field with the Doom soundtrack playing in his ears.

The Only Thing That Matters Is You is a fitting song for him 😅

Considering he hardly played for us due to injury and had poor defence not really good.

Hastings man of Steel winner gra

Zero tackle has an article of the 10 most under pressure players in 2022. Guess who's No. 1 under the most pressure. Luke Brooks. Mentions that AD is our best player by quote 'miles' and Brooks winning that POY award as 'ridiculous'

You realise zerotackle is just a bunch of opinion pieces, not fact? Just because someone wrote down their opinion of Doueihi being better by miles does not make it so. I also understand that my opinion of Brooks having played better is no more valid but it is at least supported by statistics.

Reynolds was a poor player with poor form and we had a moron signing off on massive contracts. It was a disaster. I don't think they are comparable.

I think it is when we are talking about leaders. Having a voice doesn’t automatically mean he’s going to turn the team around. He has no track record in Australia. The only thing people are clinging to is what he’s done in a third rate competition. It means nothing in Australia.

Brooks is okay.

We need better than okay.

He's got a very good running game, which it appears he has been trying to abandon for the past 3 years, his passing and kicking game is solid enough.

But his playmaking is just out of sync. Either he runs a play before engaging the defence, making it easy to shut down, or he picks the wrong play to engage the defence by running first, which ends with him isolating himself and then achieving nothing other than being caught with the ball and absent from the next play.

He's pretty quick, can sniff out an intercept, supports reasonably well. All his positives are good for a five-eighth.

But he's too small under the current format to be a #6 and isn't a powerful enough runner to be a genuine 6.

So we have had to have a genuine 6 who has to do the 7 duties (Benji, Doueihi) or a genuine creator at 9 trying to run the attack as a first receiver as well (Farah).

Can't keep carrying a player like this.

2022 ....we need a miracle MU

We dont know how Hastings is going to fare, but he ticks quite a few boxes so we'll see how he handles the step up in class of the NRL
What we DO know is Madge/Brooks are ineffective mix that works for neither..ritely or wrongly, weve chosen Madge, and hes chosen Hastings,so anyone who wants to buy Brooks at close to full freight is welcome, and gives both parties a fresh start

I have no interest in the leadership idea. Tamou/Mbye sum up to me what leaders add. We need quality players. We need halves that come up with the right plays and create opportunities for us.

Hastings is unproven but I have more confidence in him than Brooks and I have a lot more confidence in Brooks over Reynolds.

The truth is we just have to wait and see how he performs.

Reynolds only played well with 1 other player .....Hodgkinson ..only good when the surroundings were perfect .....

Adam Reynolds in 2021 - 9 Forced Drop Outs, Kicked Dead - 8, Kick Errors - 14, Try Assists- 14, Line Breaks -2 , Effective Offloads - 8, Run meters - 616, Line Engaged-265, General Play Passes -467

Luke Brooks 2021- 12 forced drop outs, Kicked Dead - 3 , Kick Errors - 7, Try Assists - 23, Line Breaks - 5, Effective Offloads - 23, Run meters - 1378 (2nd for HBs in comp), Line Engaged -354 (1st for HBs), General Play Passes-846 (1st for HBs)

It's not just what you do, it's when you do it. Scoring points and getting a repeat set when your team is down 30 ultimately counts for very little.

Stats only every tell half the story.

Are these stats correct??
Assuming they are, then the Anti Brooks brigade will argue that he’s had all these opportunities and hasn’t been able to guide the team to more wins, or he hasn’t controlled games at the right times. Hence, he hasn’t performed well enough and is simply not good enough for us (some comments have unjustly gone much further as well).
Then there’s the other interpretation...
Brooks has obviously been a pretty busy
player and by the stats you’d say our go to player. The stats make it hard to argue that he hasn’t put in effort or isn’t involved enough. Reynolds, in order for Souths to have had as many wins and scored as many points as they have, has had far more support as a playmaker, and clearly is surrounded by a number of other players that greatly contribute to their wins. When it comes to attack, you could argue that Souths have a better player in every position of their backline than WTs do. By these stats it seems that Souths have achieved a GF game without nearly as much “input” from their halfback.

Then of course we haven’t touched on what is an even larger problem than any of the above - our woeful DEFENCE. We have often scored enough points to win more games but have let in far too many. Can Brooks be blamed for that as well?? Perhaps he could have controlled the games better and then we wouldn’t have had to defend so much?? Or is it........ WTs need to harden up in the middle and win the ruck and the right to attack by getting on the front foot and gaining momentum and go forward in a game.

So the knockers see it one way, personally I look at the whole picture and see a far, far greater issue than Luke Brooks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying he’s our saviour...but he’s not supposed to be either.

The Disparity between Souths and The Tigers also Suggests that Brooks has to do a lot more... Because ain't no one else doing much.

TigerSJ perfectly said. Sadly is the true and in time if the people that count can make changes. We will head in the right direction.
