Lucky the jet had his afterburners on
Good grubber though !

If we had BJ on that side, the ball would have gone dead 4 secs before he got there and we'd be complaining about poor Brooks kick.

But BJ is on the left now ? The reason he kicked it was because it was the jet ,i believe it was tackle 4 as well. He wouldn’t have kicked it , if it was BJ , he would have given him early ball to run over his opposite number . Also there was a reason benji got 17 try assists last year , and fat BJ , was high up on that list . You don’t have to throw shade at one player to compliment another l

Not throwing shade at all. Pointing out there's a thin line between a great play and a dud one.

BJ isn’t a dud mate. He’s a hot head , who sabotages his team at times , but when he gets the ball he’s devastating . They’re chalk and cheese . Benji doesn’t get 17 try assists , with Tommy Talau there , or Jennings .

Funny, I have no interest whatsoever in reading Luke Brooks articles. I'm not even a hater, I think he's a good footballer, but the story NEVER changes.

Yep, it goes along the lines of "this is my year to take control of the team".

This year I think he will control the team,no Benji to overcall him,Liddle give him quick ball,JTJ running at full speed and Brooks knows that Madge can and will bench players not performing...
This year is his year to show all he can play and lead if he has the shackles off...

I really hope you're right and agree the absence of Benji will help a lot. I just don't want to hear him say it (again), I want to see him do it.

Yeah I think the reason why this keeps coming up, is this was supposed to happen in 2018 when Moses left, but then we signed Benji who took control.

We're finally at a stage where he shouldn't be getting over called, he's the experienced player. No more excuses.

Well when the paparazzi stick cameras all up in your face, what else do you want him to say?

To be fair to him I don’t think he rings up all the media outlets to bombard him with questions after he’s finished training. I hope he stays away from the media as much as possible

The problem with brooks is there is no one at the club coming through to put pressure on him so doesn’t matter how he plays he won’t be dropped

Can we just change the thread title to "no more excuses"

I wonder what will happen when Brooks becomes the Dally M Medal across the league, leads us to a grand final, then somehow gets a leg into the origin squad.

Will everyone still bag him out?

Anyone have a crystal ball? Hahah

People will say “it was a weak comp”

Or all the good players were out of form, like in 2018 apparently

He wasn’t in 2019 . When it was Farah and Liddle passing him the ball . When it was grant IMO .... it was oOOOoOoO Benji ..... who it’s now come out from a few people , was playing “ I’ve still got it , look at my try assists “ card . Benji , last year was a good stats bad team , half . It was empty calories .

Make no mistake, there are excuses galore at the ready:
- first time leading the team and thus needs time to adjust
- Madge alternating other spine positions doesn’t allow him to settle
- Liddle not giving him quick ball
- Douehi or Mbye stepping on his toes
- forwards not laying a good enough platform

Then there is the other end of the spectrum where people say he has had a great game when really all he did was not miss 5 tackles and didn’t throw any hospital passes.

Look, I hope he kills it; I hope he takes control of the team and doesn’t go missing in big moments nor puts in crappy big kicks 90% of the time. We all hope that!!

But skepticism is justifiable, as nothing in his career has demonstrated that he is capable.
He will have to overcome this and prove wrong all of us doubters.
I for one am more than happy to swallow bucketloads of humble pie should he turn it around and lead us to the 8.
Like another poster said, it would certainly make a difference if there was a challenger to his position.

I'm not going to blame Brooks poor year on Benji. I think this year though Brooks should get better service (even though Grant is gone), he will have better options and go forward. Brooks though has to play well. He has to take the right option consistently, defend well and be a threat with the ball.

After 69 pages, I wish I could monetize the phrase "no more excuses".

Well if you are going to all that effort to monetise phrases, you might as well start with "hi how are you?" or "see you later".

But I take your point.

Maybe though, in the family of "no more excuses" you could also monetise "not excuses, but reasons".
