Get Hastings and Brooks off to the Cowboys. It would do Brooks the world of good being coached by Payten again.

Payten was a good player and also a good coach. He certainly has the football smarts to get the best from Brooks, just like IC could.

Can I ask Taulmalolo for a second opinion?

I have been a fan of Brooks, albeit a frustrated one at times. Now that Joey Leluia won't be stuffing up the outside defence, the heat will really be on Brooks in the next two weeks. His performance will determine to a large extent how we fare. I hope he gets a fire in his belly and says, "I can't wait to get out there. Give me the ball!". If he is tentative he will fail and we will lose again. No more tomorrows, Luke.

I hope he puts all the advice, he has no doubt got this week, out of his head and just goes out and has fun.

We were the best with IC post Sheens for sure.

I thought Potter did a better job than Cleary

Definitely better than Taylor. IMO scrapping Potter for Taylor was the start of our problems.

Completely agree

I'm confident Brooks will have a blinder tomorrow.

Actually Brooks doesn't usually perform well when there's been spotlight on him. He was bog average in his return to the starting side last year. Hopefully the team is better and that will improve Brooks' performance, it never works the other way.

Most everything that went wrong with the Tigers the last few weeks was made worse by BJ. He obviously can't be a scapegoat for everything but I hope his being dropped does something for us.

I thought Luke Brooks played well. His service to a backline that had more depth and shape about it, still a little clunky but a huge improvement from previous 2 rounds. His running game and defence was up there. He and Adam Doueihi kept us in the game and well deserved the Dally M points. I thought Stefano deserved the 1 point. But no problem with Daniel Saifiti getting it. His tackling was damaging and try memorable. What a great sight seeing Stefano in midfield looking for non existent support and switching to plan b. Inspirational stuff!

Well done Luke, good to bounce back and remind everyone you're NRL quality.

That said, I think most of us expect that level EVERY week. The forward pack clearly gave him something to work with and he did what he was supposed to. Far less running and a much more controlled game.

IC and Brooks with his daily m halfback of the year got us to 9th spot. The same spot madge got us.

I just read a Channel 9 WWOS article by Tim Elba with a headline that Luke Brooks’ playing woes are driving his teammates “insane”!!
Ends up that none of his teammates have said anything like that and that quote is basically a twist of the words Fittler and Johns came up with in one if their nonsensical dribblings on.
Really appalling click bait headline that just puts more pressure on the guy - Elba you should be ashamed of yourself!

I posted that article in the Madge thread

And you are both now giving that article increased air time.

Tough period though, you are trying to replace the Tim Sheens dynasty and I think on Potter, they weren't convinced enough that he had what it took to achieve success in the next 3-4 years. It's so easy to forget we were only 1 season since finals football and within a touch of both the 2010 and 2011 grand finals when Potter took charge.

Question: did Luke Brooks put the intense speculation and media scrutiny behind him and play a better all-around game of football? Yes

Question: did Brooks dramatically improve his kicking choices? Yes

Question: did the rest of the side also hang tougher in attack and defence to make both halves lives easier in key situations? Yes

I don't think we can ask much more of Brooks at this stage. He didn't play great but it was a sure-handed effort and it made the difference. His few runs late in the game got us in a position where his attacking kick was fumbled.

IMO part of the turn around has been the coaches tactics. All of last year and first 2 rounds, Brooks catches the ball at first receiver on the last about 2m behind the PTB and he is immediately under pressure. Noticeable yesterday that he was taking the ball a few metres deeper (like every other half). For mine this flat style has been a Madge dictate and it seemed to have been adjusted yesterday.

Brooks played a solid game .. (nothing special) .. all of his kicks were mid field bombs .. he was pretty lucky Shibasaki (from Newcastle) had a shocker all day .. !! Brooks major problem with his kicking has been his grubber kicks for the in goal area .. I still wanna see Brooks consistently be able to put a grubber kick into the in goal so we can trap them there for a repeated set of 6 .. !!
