Luke RUN and RUN HARD

Problem solved

Thats it!!!!

Run Brooksy, just run!!!!

and give BJ & JTJ early ball!!!! YEah

So just RUN!!!! When your not giving early ball!! Or both...

I hope Brooksy never visits this place

He is a runner 1st and foremost ...if he gets the confidence to back his running game everything else will fit into place

Brooks is 26.Thurston who i think is one of, if not the best, was ordinary at the dogs at the same age.Cronk playing in one of the best sides, the same, and he had Smith doing a lot of half back work and directing the side(some say game management) I think because he has been around for a long time we expected too much. With a decent side for the first time in years i think he is ready to roll.

What? Thurston wasn't 26 at the Dogs?

I think he is getting Thurston mixed up with Mbye
Its very easy to do

Yeah, very similar quality players lol

I felt like he ran too much last year. Teams has him figured out, needed to give more ball to Luciano who was our best attacking weapon. 2018/2019 he had the perfect balance of running and passing, 2020 he didn't look comfortable at all constantly overplayed his hand and took the wrong option.

I agree he ran too much.
But look closer, he ran second not first. I feel he played through the structures far too much. It seemed to be the way Maguire wanted the team to play, using Marshall as the instinctive creator.
When he plays the whole field and isn’t pigeon holed to one side he is much more effective.
Tigers played Lucy as a battering ram last year where instead we could have used him as a link player, utilising his silky skills. It’s been mentioned that his moved to the right this year, possibly having Garner back on the left may just give Brooks a bit more flexibility to play what he sees.
Think with Doueihi being more of a runner we might see a change to our whole game plan that will suit both halves.

Please don't tell him that, he was running far too much last year, especially when it wasn't on.

He was hitting the line at our pace ...that was the problem

Na, the predictable dummy and step back inside was the problem. The defence knew what he was going to do every time.

You play to your strengths and the rest of his game should rise off that confidence ....but it is who you target as well ...you find a target you can beat laterally ..get on their outside ...then straighten ..you create numbers

Scott Prince was brilliant at it ...Tedesco destroyed Cartwright in a thrashing v Penrith as well .....

Its a simple game ...you target the oppositions weaknesses in D and you can pull any defence apart

Agreed, you play to your strengths, but you have to at least have other options or teams know it is coming. His best aspect his is running game, but he was doing it too much and it has started to become a weakness as he is overplaying it.

That is my point if he finds the right mark in defence he will create the chances for his outside men ...create chances with his short kicking game in the red zone ......as well as getting defenders to over commit and shorten their wdith of their defensive line ...throw in it slows the oppositions line speed or increases it beyond it's capabilities and has idiots coming screaming out of the line to shut him down ....

Yeah mate agree with that, it is all about being selective and being able to read what is in front of him. I think at times he is still a little premeditated in what he is going to do and I would love for him to be a little more instinctive.

Yeah the difference is he really isn't attacking the line at speed ,especially early in games ...you can really sit the defence on the back foot and create space and room for the outside men ...and was why I spent the whole season asking the question has he got a calf or hamstring issue ..

Has to do with the delivery. Brooks likes it nice and early. Tell me how often he got a wide ball out to him early enough and in position for him to take the ball on the run and out wide? Add to that, If you recall whenever he did receive the ball as I mentioned above we had a blindside Break.
I can’t fault Brooks for that. He took the best of the opportunities given to him.

Yep, I don't know if he is watching for the right indicators in the defensive line. He likes to step to the inside of a defender so it would be best to that against a sliding defensive line, especially when the inside covering player is a slower forward or a retreating defensive line. When the defence is more man on man or up and in he really needs to be looking to be creating space for the outside men.

Also watching the body position of the defender once he engages the line needs to improve as well.

That probably doesn't make much sense but I did my best to explain what I was thinking lol.

Just a comment on the irony of a halfback with 7 (?) seasons under his belt requiring mentoring by Matthew Johns. Still, if it helps why not. 2021 will be his last opportunity to 'get it' surely.

The Johns boys wouldn’t have come near our halves with the plodder packs they’ve been playing behind for years. If you want to soar like an eagle you can’t be flocking with Turkeys.

Thats a term for Manly as they are known as the Eagles

I would use the term
If you want to Roar like a Tiger you can't play with Pussy's
I think that was more fitting
But hopefully this year our new look pack will hunt with Pride

~~Spot on~~ (Cheetahs have spots) Stripes on Cairns Tiger  :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
I was a **Magpie** and still am really, but now I'm a **Tiger** thru and thru, and it doesn't matter which one I am at the time, I reckon I should be allowed to play with Pussy's if I want to.

Brooksy is a runner **AND ** darn good tackler 1st and 4most Happy.

To the people saying that all Brooks needs to do is "run the ball", seriously, get a clue! No halfback or five-eighth runs the ball as much as Luke Brooks. Two years ago he literally was in the top 10 in the NRL for runs.

I agree largely with what has been said by most. LB needs to trust his eyes & play what is in front of him& make the decision early.I think this year is the first year he has enough quality outside of him to have more than one option in attack. If the forwards can lay a good platform & LB has a good year the Tigers could be top 4

He needs to try and create space.id love to see him hit the line at speed ,only to throw the ball back to create second phase.once he does that a few times ,he can look for a gap or throw a short ball
2020 was run the ball or look for a short ball.

His short kicking game needs the most work in my opinion.
As poor as Reynolds was at times I had more confidence in him to land the ball in the goal line.he was always the first one chasing to.

Huge year for Luke, absolutely his last chance.
He is a senior player in this squad ,it’s time to show some leadership.

Brooks short kicking game was excellent in 2018/2019 so it's there just needs to use it properly again. He was forcing heaps of dropouts and we had the most tries off kicks one of those years too I believe. Just needs to get himself back into that form

Yeah we also were up there for forced dropouts.was completely gone from his game 2020.I think we are all banking on AD bringing the best out of him.

There’s an old saying that you teach to kids when they’re young which remains true today, “do not pass the ball to a man in a worse position to yourself” I urge people to listen to Brett Finch talk about this in a great interview he did on bloke in a bar. Well worth your time. Point is, Brooksy taking hits when the defensive line is set and there’s nothing on is actually admirable and respected by team mates. I’ll swear this till I’m black and blue, WT forwards need to give him a platform or he’ll never reach his potential. No more plodding.

Well he should be both ......you need a game plan A.....and B ...and C..........but your need to play what you see as well

A lot of times what he is seeing is a really slow play the ball, a team of players in his face and no time to deliver a worthy pass or kick. So he takes the hit like a man.

Matty Johns apparently at WT'S training mentoring Brooksy

We didn't need to get a mentor

I can do it

Luke RUN and RUN HARD

Problem solved

Thats it!!!!

Run Brooksy, just run!!!!

and give BJ & JTJ early ball!!!! YEah

So just RUN!!!! When your not giving early ball!! Or both...

I hope Brooksy never visits this place

He is a runner 1st and foremost ...if he gets the confidence to back his running game everything else will fit into place

I agree largely with what has been said by most. LB needs to trust his eyes & play what is in front of him& make the decision early.I think this year is the first year he has enough quality outside of him to have more than one option in attack. If the forwards can lay a good platform & LB has a good year the Tigers could be top 4

Key words “good platform”

The saying
Forwards win matches
Backs decide by how much

Get our go forward right with Tamau and Musgrave etc and it will lay a platform for Brooks

Put Brooks in the 2010 and 2011 teams instead of Robert Lui and we probably get the job done

Agree mate, you'd rather him get whacked then turn over cheap ball to the opposition when there was nothing on. Sometimes it's better to just cop the hit

Every coach tells you this from about under 10s up

That’s it. And for those calling for early ball to Jet and BJ, I’d love to see it, but we still need the pigs to get a roll on or there will be 3 or 4 defenders up in our face and asking Brooks or AD to throw a miracle ball. Look at the packs of the top sides on paper, that’s what is holding us back.
