Brooks has shown glimpses and patches of form but it’s undeniable he’s been, at best, inconsistent. I don’t think he’ll ever be the game manager, or leader that we need. I think it’s in the clubs and Brooks interests to cut ties. He probably needs a fresh start and the Tigers definitely need to go in a different direction because it hasn’t worked for either party in 8 years.

Flying under the radar is the style of football we have played over the last 3 years It's simply not how the WTs play. Hopefully Sheens can re-introduce the style synonymous with the Brand. Even if we lose, the boys give it a good shot and its is better matched to the players we have at the club.

Bad coaching and club coupled with decade of failure with pressure from media and fans.

Also Brooks has struggled with he's natural free flowing footy and trying to be a Cooper cronk style controlling half. Hasn't been able to blend the two

Now I'm not saying Brooks was perfect but given how week the team was around him these indicate that the problem to me isnt Brooks

Mate I think the stat I've highlighted is the most important for several reasons. A lot of Brooks' stats of being either one of the best or one of the worst in the areas recorded are partly because of his large amount of possessions. Cut them back to average and he's more than likely going to come back to the field across the other stats.

But what it shows more than anything is that despite all those possessions and chances to do so, he still can't make good things happen for us enough. Obviously he is supposed to be our play maker and game manager and we pay him accordingly but he just can't pull that off.

And this is the issue. We're paying him to do a job he's not capable of. He's a good footballer etc etc but not the answer. It seems Madge has tried a lot of things to get him to the next level even handing him captaincy but nothing has inspired him to play at his best with any consistency at all.

As a second fiddle half he'd be fine, but would need to take a pay cut of a couple hundred k. In the current climate another club would be willing to roll the dice and pay him the top dog salary. Which is fine but with our current roster we still need him, the hard truth is that he is still better than our other options.

Almost all of the highlights there are him running the ball or at least at the line. We have tried to make him something he is not, an organising half. Hated when we did this to early days Benji. I’m not the biggest brooks fan but he clearly needs an organising half next to him.

For the past couple of years, he’s been knocking on the door for a run with the Wests Magpies.

I see that mate, but he still needs to take some responsibility for why that is happening too... he is on the big coin because he is supposed to be organising what's going to happen at least in some capacity. If this is indeed what's actually stifling his ability, he should be screaming at these other blokes until his eyes are about to pop. He just doesn't though.

When AD was playing well he attracted defensive heat as well, yet Brooks game stayed at the same level?

I go back to my point that he is being paid big money for something that he's just not capable of.

Yay we have the halfback who throws the most passes.

The significance of that shouldn’t be dismissed. We have a half with a high tackle rate, high possession rate. Why?
The team holding the trophy makes better use of their 7, with his forwards protecting him, and 13 at first receiver.
Game day commentators often describe how the good halves always have plenty of time. They don’t get that time by accident, or by constantly being under pressure.

Cleary get the ball a MILE behind the line on the last, Brooks always seems to get hit as soon as he catches it. It drives me crazy. I dont know if its Brooks fault, coaching, tactics or a result of the fact that we havent got their defence on the back foot in that set (all of the above?).

Yes exactly. The one size fits all approach is not relevant to many of the players we have in the squad.

If there's ever been an example of flogging a dead horse, this thread is the best one. I check in from time to time because, yes, there is speculation about the future of Brooks, but all I read instead is never-ending debate about how bad Brooks is, or isn't.

One thing that surprised me late in the season with Brooks was that he actually has a very good spiral bomb which I think he used twice, resulting in two dropped catches from memory. Wish he used that more often as his kicking game is so predictable.

That nothing bomb he kicks over and over again with no real height on it annoys me. Hopefully Madge sees some sense and moves him on as if he doesn't get results he is gone.

Do you think that he would still be playing first grade every week if that wasn't at the direction of the coach?

Mitchell Pearce had the same problem in Origin...
It's usually because we're so dominated - And not smart enough to play on the edge - retaliate - or just play smarter...

It's not a new thing, We've been dumb for a long time...
We just had enough magic in us (Sometimes) to get out of it....

Maybe he's been doing it that long to no effect that he's given up somewhat?
I'll always remember Sean Meaney finally getting a run at FB for 1st grade (When he was on fire in reserves) Meaney was never gonna be Billy Slater, But he had plenty of ticker, Was a real leader and definitley not a shrinking violet... He was screaming and screaming from Fullback - But he was a reserve grader... So no one was listening to him - In the end he just gave up. Never seen Meaney give up on much in his time here... He gave up that day though - Felt sorry for him. He was just trying to do his job....
