Luke Garner

Flat out dumb decision if Tigers let him go. I've got no problem with signing a better back rower to replace him, but you don't develop players then just let them go to save a few bucks. You need these players in the squad. Blore, Tuilaga, Tuki etc. need to prove themselves before we can be banking on them just yet.

I think we've seen Garners best and what he's capable of and it doesn't make sense to persist with some one that isn't quite good enough.

We're building something here and guys like Garner... and others such as BJ, MCK, etc. Haven't lived up to expectations so we're going a different way.

Appreciate your post and understand what you're saying but it's all about roster management as well as salary cap management... our second row is weak and Garner is a, one, of the reasons of this.

Losing him to Manly but replacing him with a better suited player, whoever that may be, is smart business.

He was going there last year and that didn't happen. I don't think he was 100% with us this year.

Join the party..
We got a few guys who play like they have one foot out the door.

Happy for all of them to leave.

Statistically the WORST 80 min backrower in the comp...77 meters a game for a bloke who plays ALL GAME, arm grabs, can't overpower anyone one on one and averages 0.4 line breaks a game.

Anyone who rates him honestly must have no idea. He is the worst 80 min starting backrower in the comp.

I'd like to know who the better player is that will replace him in the squad first. That's all.
Blore and Tuilaga look better, I'll admit that, but lets see how they go first. I'd still be keeping him for depth.

If they're serious they will address our obvious issues.
Backrow and centres.

Lots of movement to be made between now and kick off 2022.

We missed out on TPJ and Finucane... much like previous attempts to sign players, miss out and end up with some one else.

I'd like to see Hudson Young and Tapine join us... .easier said than done tho.

Can’t wait for the comments when he kills it at Manly.

Not happening unless he has a twin brother with a bit of ticker . Mediocre is his middle name.

In playing days I always knew we’d have a good day if our back rowers got the edge physically, it’s such an underrated position. It gives the whole team confidence. It’s why I’ve said from day one this year we would be no good. Opposition halves and edge players must really look forward to an easy day against us.

Straight up , Blore is better , and hopefully we will see that on Friday . He’s a better defender , can hit the holes , and Is a natural leader .

For all garners speed and agility , he still is slow on defensive reads and is often caught in no mans land positionally in defence .

I think we will finally see this week , what all the fuss was about prior to round 1 , when the mail was our edges were going to be more damaging this year .
Well I hope so anyway .

Edge defence is our achilles heel and that starts with the backrowers. And let's be honest, neither Lucy or Garner are great defenders over the course of 80 minutes - Garner has a much better motor and mobility, but again, arm grabs too often when moving laterally.

The shame of it is, when he digs his shoulder in he's one of the few players in the team who can hurt in defence.

Wouldn't care if he went but unless we sign a couple second rowers next season it would be silly to let him go.

Given we're possibly going into next season with the ESL duo as our only signings, it's unlikely we'll be playing finals anyway. If we can get him off our books, I say do it, give Tuilagi a run. Garner isn't the sort of player that will take us to the promised land.

Either are some of the rest of our squad...but having said that we must persevere with the young guys who are developing...I know you and others have heard it before but it takes time to mould a winning team all on the same page...

And then they should be moved on too. I'm resigned to the fact we aren't going to sign any desirable established players, so let's just spend the cap on the best young players out there and hope they click. It might take time but who cares. AD, Laurie, Stefano have been our best players this season (whilst Brooks has also been good the last month or so). Nofo, Mbye, Tamou are the ones that are disappointing - get rid of them. I wouldn't re-sign Luc either.

Fair points Avo....we just have to weather the storm until things settle...I honestly think we will see really good results during and after 2022...

If we can sign the best talent and hang on to it, I think 2023 we'll see some real improvement. Next year I just can't see it. If the powers that be are intent on keeping Madge as coach I also think they need to find the best defensive and attacking coach available and get Madge to take a step back.

I really think that the hiring of Sheens will have a big impact on a lot of things within the club...Im saying that because none of us really know what the head honchos at the top have in mind...they tell us one thing but do another...best thing to do is stay positive and wait and see what happens over the preseason and going into season 2022...

Then we cop an injury to the second row and we are struggling to get a replacement. Hang onto him for depth unless we get a second rower in return
