Lewis, 28, is also close to Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens from Australian Test duty.

"I think he'll draw a lot of interest," Sheens said last night.

"I'm not saying we can put him in there or afford him, I'm just saying we'll be interested.

"We lose (Gareth) Ellis, but we've picked up Eddy Pettybourne and Bodene Thompson, so we have a bit in that (back-row) area. But we will be interested in Lewis as soon as he comes on to the market. I think a few clubs will be. We'll be one of many."

Take the money from Ellis plus some of Rhino and you've got yourself a Lewis. Thompson and Pettybourne can't be on much.

And besides, shouldn't Benji and Robbie qualify for salary cap exemptions next season? 10 years isn't it? Maybe Fulton too?

Good point might get a discount on heighnington as well.

The long service exemption was reduced to 8 years continuous service, and is only a hundred grand (maybe a couple of hundred now) spread across as many long service players as you want.

So I wouldn't count of that giving us breathing room next year, its probably already being used up.

Still, even if it's across Benji and Robbie next year (if Heighno leaves), that still means we could offer Lewis $100,000 more than a competitor - could be the difference between signing him or not

My team:

James Tedesco

Matt Utai
Chris Lawrence
**Luke Lewis**
Beau Ryan

Curtis Sironen
Benji Marshall

Keith Galloway
Robbie Farah
Aaron Woods
Liam Fulton
Adam Blair
Braith Anasta

Tim Moltzen
Eddy Pettybourne
Ben Murdoch-Masila
Bodene Thompson

Luke Lewis used to play on the wing….centre is where I'd play him.

Why play one of the games best backrowers in the centres? We already have little pace in the backs…

**It's as stupid as people saying move Marshall to fullback**. Why move one of the best players in the world in their respective position to another one?! If we get him, I'd have him in the backrow for sure and I'm sure Sheens would too

Its not stupid…its realistic.

People say this knowing what Sheens will and will not do....& hes not moving Sirro anytime soon.

That said, I dont agree on LL in the backs.

wow, whats going on at penrith?! why any club would let this happen to a player of lewis' calibre and characteristics is beyond me!
would LOVE to see him at the tigers!! please!

How good would it be to have Luke Lewis at the Tigers. I hope that we get him, they said on the news that the Sharks and the Bulldogs were interested in him as well.

Tiger will make a play for lewis , but $$$$$$$$$$$ will come in to the result , how muck can we spare and who goes to make it hapen

Lots are saying that Lewis wants to play for a contender

If he has watched our last three games the last thing he will be thinking that we are a contender

Id be moving Heaven and Earth to fit him under the cap. Knowing Sheens as our coach for the past 9 years he isnt likely to go out and buy in the 2 positions we actually desperately need, Prop and 1/2 back, im sure we would have added a trophy or 2 if he bought a 'real' half back after Prince left and not Johnny Cronk. We all know he has a massive love affair with Second Rowers, that being the case, we should be specials to buy one of the best ones out there to replace Ellis.

Leaving the club should be Ellis, Lote, Rhino, Moors, Humble, Cashmere and id like to see some releases of other nuffies like Ayshford and Reddy to make space for Lewis. We should have enough cash if we use some players from the reggies that will be on a lot less cabbage then these players mentioned above and im sure will do a more then adequate job, again, compared to the same players mentioned above based on their performances this year. Also i think weve only purchased Old Man Anasta, Pettyboring and Thompwho? so far for next year, must be a bit of cash floating around when you also throw in exemptions for Farah, Benji and Fults, 3rd party deals etc. It could be done, it all comes down to if Lewis thinks he can be successful at the Tigers, with Sheens as coach, that part still worries me.
