Luke Lewis

Give him a deadline of 3pm tomorrow to sign with us. I hate it that players play the clubs for more money. I think we should throw the ball back in his court, tell him sign or we pull the pin. We weren't that desperate for him 2 weeks ago.

i said that to my mate today as well , But we don't know maybe it's a done deal already for all we know . At club level his been alright at best, even last year. Would love to have him , but it's no big deal either. A halfback is what is more needed IMO…

He has a limited timespan to earn his money, I can't fault him for doing it.

While not exactly the same scenario, many people play off potential employers off against each other and their current employer to suss out the best deal.

Yeah Lewis is a class player no denying that but my concern is paying overs for a player in a position I believe we have covered.I would love to sign him at the right price.

Man I'm getting inpatient…

Luke Lewis is one of my favourite players, especially in Origin, but to be brutally honest, if we actually have $500k to spend for next year I would rather we buy a top class half back. We need a General/Playmaker who can take over the kicking duties and provide another serious threat on the other side of the ruck and let Benji play his natural game. Sirro is a good talent and will one day probably end up as a ball playing forward. Buying another forward, no matter how brilliant, is not going to solve the biggest problem we have in the club at the moment.

If the papers are correct we have

Marshall 550k
Farah 450k
Blair 500k
Lote 400k
Ellis 400k

So 2.3 mil in 5 players so that leaves 1.6 mil for 20 more players that leaves an average of 80k a player when min contract is 65k, yeah I don't think so

That's not what the papers are saying at all.

Just because a player is being payed 550k for example, doesn't mean that's all subject to the cap.
\
\
It might be 350k salary cap and 200k 3rd party sponsors which doesn't get calculated under the cap

Do u know how third party works?

First off its a max of 150k
Second that 3rd party can't have any affiliation with the club otherwise it does count towards the cap. That's why 3rd party details are so complex

That is simply not true. If a third party has NO relationship with the club then they can pay that player whatever the hell they want. It stemmed from Craig Wing legal action when he was employed by Foxtel.

The cap on 3rd party payments is for club affiliated 3rd parties.

Love Lewis to join us but would need to let tuqiri & heighno go …. Unsure that will happen

Yeah, giving him ultimatums, that'll work :crazy

Completely agree Willow, you can't force the bloke to decide the next 3-4 years plus his future after footy with a deadline.

Whatever he decides is best for him and his family is the only option. And whatever he decides good luck to him.

If someone told me you've got a deadline I'd tell em to stick up their you know what. The Tigers are obviously doing their best to get him and he's obviously keen. So letting it play out is the best option for us.

i dont think he'll sign with the roosters, pretty sure its not the sort of club he'll want to finish at (dont see many ageing veterans playing out their career there)… its just the process to listen to all offers.

newcastle are a club i didn't consider seriously enough (until seeing the nrl on fox show tonight).. tinkler could have conjured up a tasty proposal with a nice retirement plan.. playing under bennett, beach lifestyle etc etc...

would really love to see him at the tigers though. his combination in the forwards with anasta would be a blessing. guys like pettybourne, galloway, bmm, woods would benefit alot.

Maybe Lewis could play halfback :astonished:

Who knows what Sheens has on his mind. Theres no way you could rule it out. He really killed it when he played there, its not that far fetched.

It will come down who can offer him the best career chances after football and if the chooks are really serious they have a board full of movers and shakers so I would never discount them as chance.

But like other I think it is probably a done deal and one would think it's either the Sharks or us, with maybe the Sharks slightly in front. Anyway it will be done and dusted in the next day or two

Didn't realize Lewis actually played halfback ? I knew he started his FG career on the wing…

He played there for a while back in 08 and was on fire. Not saying thats where i'd play him, but if we get him, it wouldn't surprise me if it crosses Sheens mind over the summer

He was playing half a few years ago, but he hated it and was thinking of retiring, then he was given a go in the back row and loved it.
