Who cares about 2005? It was 16 seasons ago now, the game has moved on from that.

No wonder we can't move forward.

What we learn from history is that people don't learn from it. We're going backwards but not in a good way.

We tried to "learn from the past" by bringing back Robbie and Benji, where did it get us?

They were great players and always will be. The issue is the dud coaches we've had. Note I do not include Sheens or Cleary in this category.

Cleary destroyed our roster.

Beats me how anyone can defend the guy or call him good. He may have had the boys playing ok but he was not good for us in the final tally.

Goes on the list with the dud coaches.

Cleary was literally a suicide bomber...infiltrated and boom

Perfect way to describe him.

Anyone hear what was said on WestsLife Podcast about what allegedly happened on Mad Monday?

For those who didn't it seems Benji, Packer and either Aloiai or Reynolds were causing division over whether to get behind Madge or not and went to Pascoe to ask to get him fired. Then on mad Monday a bunch of guys Madge had signed (and a few others) got so heated over the issue that they went outside and almost had a blue.

Seems that the players who have our coach's back really have his back and those who don't really don't. A "house divided against itself cannot stand".

Why am not surprised Benji's name is in there...... So glad the little white ant isn't at the club anymore.
Bet he is licking his lips Reynolds may be moving on too More limelight for his ego

Sheens and Cleary are the two best coaches we have had at WTs by a long way. Cleary gets results and this is a results driven business.

Cleary achieved zero here. He recruited terribly, and couldn't make the 8. He has never won a premiership, Madge has won two. If it's a results driven business you would not choose Cleary. Even with the (inherited) squad he has this year, I have no doubt the Panthers will choke. They will not win the GF this year.

So you're saying that the Panthers, if Maguire became available, or Chris Anderson for that matter, would drop Cleary and be better off with either of those two choices? Doesn't add up. And let's not count UK Super League titles as a premiership. It's equivalent to NSW and QLD Cup and no one is saying the Walker Brothers are premiership winners.

I believe Madge would have more chance of winning a premiership with the current Panthers squad than Cleary.
He's won two premierships, Cleary has zero.
And Cleary has been coaching for longer.

Over his career Madge also has a higher win rate.

Madge is a more successful coach than Cleary, it is a simple statement of fact.

We saw more in the 1st 6 weeks under Cleary than I have seen under any other coach

We all hate him ..but making up poo about him ...

Yes for the first few weeks we went alright. So what? For the rest of his time here after that we were rubbish. You don't measure success off a few weeks of a single season then conveniently ignore the rest.

His disgusting behaviour towards us at the end was just the icing on the top of a sub-par coaching record here.

No of course not . There’s way more other factors , like his son , his connection to the area , his connection to the panthers board . I think he was saying in a vacuum . Like if a football team came down from outer space with no prior knowledge , and was just looking at resumes .
I’m curious who we would have chosen if the above variables didn’t exist , because they existed here as well through Pascoe .

I really don't buy this.

If you follow our players on social media, especially the last couple of years - they are a very tight group. Every milestone/someone leaving, most players would post a congratulations/thank you about it. Reynolds is very much loved by almost every player.

The current crop look more like a split group than the ones of years gone by.

So why was the 2005 group so tight? Was It that we had players like Gibbs in the squad, universally respected by all and a great clubman?

Was it Sheens, intelligent, wise, approachable, a father figure to all and with excellent person management skills?

Perhaps the mix of the squad was right including players who have been labelled in later times as 'white ants' by some.

The mix of the squad perhaps determined by who Sheens could attract to WTs. He wasn't known as the "recruiter" for being bad at it.

Well if this is the case. Why did he have his star player, whom he loved like a Son. Likewise loved Sheens like a father, suggest publicly that his methods were old and tired?
G I wonder how we would of gone in 2013 with Sheens still at the helm, coaching a clearly unsatisfied Marshall.
Who knows he may of still been coaching us out of this quagmire today...

Our players are inheritantly soft. They'd love to play under a soft coach like Ivan who'd give them a pat on the bum instead of a bollocking. IMO our current roster would perform better under the perceived 'softer' coaches in the game. They just don't seem willing to respond to a hard taskmaster like Madge, I honestly don't think it will end well for him which is a shame.

I agree with you. While tough love has its place, Sheens and Cleary are proof there are different ways of going about achieving results. That article about Reynolds and the reference to being forced to play injured has set back WTs.

It’s really something else to see how revisionist everyone is to Cleary’s days here. Up until he did what he did, he was one of the most loved figures the club ever had. It was only a short period, but he couldn’t get arrested in Tiger town. Hot off the heals of one of the most hated figures in the clubs history. Turned out he screwed the club over worse, then the guy before could have ever dreamed.

Cleary has been great for Penrith but to say he was good for us is wrong. We still suffer from his signings and he did not make the eight with us. He was definitely a dud coach, unlike Jason Taylor and Mick Potter he actually had cap room to buy players and he absolutely blew it.

They just don't seem willing to respond to a hard taskmaster like Madge, I honestly don't think it will end well for him which is a shame.
Player power always wins in this day and age in all sports.

I agree with you. While tough love has its place, Sheens and Cleary are proof there are different ways of going about achieving results. That article about Reynolds and the reference to being forced to play injured has set back WTs.

Did Robbie Farah being allowed to play with a broken leg help or hinder Wests Tigers? @Pawsandclaws

Sheens and Cleary are the two best coaches we have had at WTs by a long way. Cleary gets results and this is a results driven business. I didn't agree with what he did but understood it involved his son.

It would be interesting to know which coach our current players would prefer to play for if they had the choice? It worked out well for Momirovski.

That's the first I learnt of that one. I'm getting older but that doesn't sound great. It would be hard to keep him from playing!

Cleary has been great for Penrith but to say he was good for us is wrong. We still suffer from his signings and he did not make the eight with us. He was definitely a dud coach, unlike Jason Taylor and Mick Potter he actually had cap room to buy players and he absolutely blew it.

I believed him good for WTs. Obviously his exit was very disappointing but we had some good wins against leading teams with IC as coach. He is just proving how good he is with the Panthers. I enjoy the style of footy he coaches and only wish we could adopt it.
