I would say the players do. Never seen the gym myself but apparently it was an embarrassment.

It is another part of the puzzle of correcting what's not worked at our club in the past. While we haven't been able to snare some bug names yet and have lost some we didn't want to go, we have at least tightened most of the information leaks, we have seemingly stopped paying overs for has-beens, and trying to go for instant fixes.
If we did lose SM and JA fo these reasons cited, we need to get that fixed. We also need to get a 'happy' 'taken care of' culture at the club perception happening because no-one wants to go to a 'toxic' culture. Getting into the semis or being seen as on the way up also helps but that not going to happen until the other pieces are in place.
Fix those things and we change perception of the club as a destination. Change that perception and we might see players wanting in rather than out.

We are all frustrated by the lack of success. I was at the point of giving it away forever halfway through the year; however, the incremental changes implemented will have an effect if done properly. McGuire knows how to build a club - you don't win two comps unless you do. Hartigan and Pascoe come from organisations that have good structures.

We need people who understand these things not people who love factional fights and stabbing people in the back, a culture that came from both foundation clubs and spread to the Wests Tigers. We are still suffering from patisanship of years gone by.

How many clubs in the comp have a COE? Probably can count them on one hand. Most players in the comp can deal without them. Not the be all end all.

Broncos
Canberra
Panthers
Titans
Storm

They are the ones I know of. I suspect the Cowboys probably have something akin now with their new stadium.

And nearly all teams located in cities away from Sydney.

Manly have started building there's too

I like Madge and his hard stance approach
But if these Soft NRL players don't want to sign because of the hard approach Madge is taking, then yes we as a club need to look at this and make a change or two before the horse has bolted for another season
These players earn the big bucks but it seems many of them still want to be mothered
If this internal review finds that Mages approach is having a negative affect on our signings, then we must change that next year
What ever it takes
The club should ask direct questions to those signings we missed
Was it Madge
Was it our facilities
Was is $
Was it location
What was it that made you sign with another club

All I know is we must sign a top class player even if for 2022
We are able to make that happen $ wise
If Madge and the team can't do that by mid season next year the out with the lot of them

Any new contract for Madge or others involved in these decisions should have this included in their contract
1 "Attract a top line player to the club" or your contract finishes at the end of the season
2 or Unless we make the 8 then you get a reprieve

The pressure continues to build
Is it time to pay overs for one key player

No it’s not.

Remember Newcastle Pre Ponga / Mitchell Pearce.

That's where we are right now.

The next approach to a gun player needs to be on the quiet as the Bad PR is killing us

Unfortunately it's the players managers who often leak interest from clubs in the hope of driving up their value or creating a bidding war. Virtually impossible to keep on the down low.

We're world class In 2022. A lot of Money freed up. State of the art COE. Who wants to go can go who wants to stay can stay. I know it hurts but we're building fellas.

Honestly who cares about the COE. The way people bang on about it, you’d think it’s the equivalent of signing Jonathan Thurston in his prime. It’s not going to all of a sudden turn us into a different football team.

Better than no COE?

Ah not entirely sure if I want to be Newcastle post-Ponga / Pearce. Not exactly going to plan.

For every Braith Anasta that quits the club with an axe to grind and whinges about rusty dumbells or not enough free Gatorade, you get dozens of players that don't really care.

If you're a decent player with a chance of making origin, you're going to sign with the best performing club. Not the one with a nicer gym or physio room.

This is why we can't sign blokes like JAC or Latrell. It's why we lost Tedesco. Signing with us is a bad career move when the money on offer from others is about the same. Which it always is in the world of salary caps.

Same goes for the best juniors. No parent wants their kid to sign for a dud club.

A decent gym and facilities is just par for the course in the NRL these days.

So by that logic you'd be OK with having your office in the Glenn Morrison Hotel? 🙂

People like a pleasant day to day workplace - it's where they spend a lot of their life. I've worked in cesspit offices and am currently blessed with having a really nice environment to work in. Makes a big difference.

I agree, it's not. That was one part of my point about getting things in place in a number of areas.

about the centre of excellence at Penrith

They were similarly under performers like Tigers

By the time it was built in 2016 they had only made 3 semi finals appearances since their last premiership

Since built made 4 out of 5 semis including a grand final.

Coincidence? Maybe

But like modern working world day to day job satisfaction players could be attracted or keep current players for less who knows.

But even if it helps 5% improvement could be difference from bottom 8 to top 8

I’m a huge Madge fan. He has a track record, the envy of other longer serving coaches. He showed tremendous courage in taking on this job, knowing how many have failed before him, which means he needs a challenge in his life. He is the most accountable person in the organisation from what I can understand. Please Judge him on results?

We won 2 of our last 10 games.

Haha, naturally I meant when he is done.

I'm interested to see what our team looks like in 2022 and 2023. Madge and co will have plenty of cash, and an idea of what the junior recruits look like.

Exciting times I reckon

Very true WT'S have been unable to off load their over paid players and have had to ride it out whilst some players have been moved on and others have decided to move a few young players have been picked up with the deadwood gone 2022 or probably 2023 will be judgement time by that time I think Madge will have had enough if the results aren't there and probably move himself on.

I'm not sure Madge can turn this around for us, he just doesn't seem like a man manager, not sure he can change his approach but if he can't he will find himself on the scrap heap.

If he’s not re-signed by round one and we get off to an iffy start, he’ll start getting nervous. We’ve sacked/not re-signed coaches for less.
