Who are the good CEO’s out there..

Good question

Is the CEO’s primary function to manage the books or manage a football side?
I know it’s not simply one or the other but I would have thought the commercial side was the bigger focus

You are correct.

So the amount of hate for Pascoe surprises me if that’s the case. The clubs better than it’s been for some years in a financial sense and the COE underway as well as the increased investment in the football dept through the new pathways and head of football performance roles due to the improvement in the financial performance would suggest he’s done alright would it not? I know he appointed Madge but he had to pick from available candidates and besides Bennett, who wasn’t released until later anyway, Madge was the best of what was available. I also recall the Robbie ambassador role was a bun fight but other than that, curious why many think he needs to go

I'm a little curious too. The club is now in pretty good shape financially which it wasn't all that long ago and the new COE looks a winner as well. Started following Magpies in '63 and WT since the start and have seen lots of disasters on and off the field over the years, many much worse than our current situation.

They have few testicles between them, it is a statement of fact.

It is counterproductive to team building, cohesion and performance. And importantly, how do you believe other players outside the club will view WTs as a destination? Are we that naive to think word does not get around?

So we should be announcing in a press conference that players like Mbye actually had a great game, in the hopes that Brandon Smith might then decide he wants to come here?

Good players do not want to play with our squad.

To be fair why would any good player want to come and be lectured by a lunatic every week. You could see Everyone’s eyes glazing over.

Do you think Bellamy is not an angry ranting lunatic?

Nope. If you look at the shots in the dressing room he’s seated and talking normally 99% of the time. He blows up a couple of times a year when he needs to.

Bellamy has never had to deal with a squad like this. There is absolutely no evidence to support how he would or wouldn't react.

That’s because he whould not have recruited or re-signed the the players Maguire has

He has never been in a position to have to sign the type of players this club attracts.

Not so true he has recruited players that seem to be fairly average at other clubs who then improve under him and there systems. Maguire has brought in players to supposedly suit he’s coaching style and yet no improvement in individual performance or team performance. I whould like to see us improving to give some hope I’m just not seeing it

His recruitment has been within the constraints of an extremely buggered salary cap, with the Cleary era leaving a series of massively overpaid useless players on long term contracts, that is finally getting sorted out.

He was in a position to offer Latrell Mitchell over $1m a year. I don't think he's been any more hamstrung than other coaches, particularly this year.

Do you have solid proof that "he was in a position to offer Latrell Mitchel over $1 m a year" ? Avo.

Reported widely in the media at the time. This was from the article in the SMH when we pulled our offer:

'Sources have told the Herald that Mitchell was prepared to wait up until Christmas before making a call on his future. The Tigers, who have $1.7 million left in their salary cap to spend for 2020, weren’t prepared to wait that long."

Watched Madges Presser x2

I like his words and commitment to our club.

But in truth, he doesnt have much choice in terms of ready replacements.

Remember this is 15 years of crud. Madge will change this culture, hang on Tigers fans.

I to actually liked some of what he had to say today, 1st time I have seen him actually talk about problems. The parts I didn't like were the excuses he made for those problems

Maguire talks the talk ..he is trying to save his job and will say anything to do so .
He has lost his players everyone can see this with there demeanour on the park ,he has had plenty of opportunity to drop players but refuses. There are players in reserve grade that would take the opportunity.
Maguire has lost the locker room and as each week passes so does he lose the supporter base !

Here's the million-dollar question. Let's assume Maguire has indeed lost some of the players. Are these the players we care to keep, care to placate?

I reckon you could line up all the players who don't rate Madge, however many there might be, and they would end up being the most heartless, gutless, least capable players still hanging on to their contract.

New players like Laurie, Ofa, Blore, Stefano, Douiehi - all had a red-hot dig, all Madge-era recruits. Luch Leilua is a tough one, he's still a real X-Factor in attack and consistently a threat against good teams, but his defence is arguably getting worse and he has very little ability to adjust once he has set his feet.

Jimmy Jet was pretty aggressive yesterday, I don't think he had a bad game, the defensive mistakes on the RHS were made inside him.

Don't think there's any defence for Mbye - I think he should probably sit out the rest of the season. The 5/8th experiment was interesting, and temporarily worked, but his defensive ability there is horrendous. I don't get it, because he is often a quite capable defender at centre. Any which way he needs to go, which leaves either Madden or Doueihi to halves. I think you go Doueihi, short-term, get him touching the ball as much as possible before Hastings comes in.

Talau probably comes back in at centre, if not, give a young bloke a go. Maybe even Nofo is a left-field consideration for centre, if you can get him running straight rather than sideways; I have no idea how his defensive reads might work out. Or Maumolo... point is to get a new guy in on the wing and experienced, perhaps Cooper or give Cini another run, or Fitzgibbon...or go totally left-field and put a junior hot-shot in. Point being season is done, can't lose with experimentation.

Main issue Madge has however is he can't drop 6 players, they'll be just as flogged the next time around. He has to make small adjustments.

:+1: :+1: :+1:

We had money to spend, but without the Packer/Reynolds/Mbye cap mess, plus the icing on top of the Farah penalty, we would have had significantly *more* money to spend. We could have afforded 3 Latrells.

Yeh :+1: ...but is that solid proof, or maybe something made up by a journo

It was widely reported at the time by all journos. We had money to spend, that's why we were in a position to offer him.

We had money to spend, but without the Packer/Reynolds/Mbye cap mess, plus the icing on top of the Farah penalty, we would have had significantly *more* money to spend. We could have afforded 3 Latrells.

I'm not arguing that. I was just saying we had a fair chunk of cash to spend.

He has the best players in key positions that make average players play better. We were a better side with Harry Grant and we would be even better with Smith /Munster the Bronwiches Hughes etc. He is undoubtedly a good coach but even he knew this was a tough gig - it was his if he wanted it. Maguire spent 5 years as his assistant so there must be some level of Bellamys influence.

Very good point re Harry Grant @Telltails.
Our best player in a short time frame that was obviously able to lift and enthuse the players around him.

Ok if Maguire is gone tomorrow as it's a results driven business can someone advise as to how long the next Coach gets to produce results...?

No-one is expecting a premiership, but year on year improvement is required. Each year we've gotten progressively worse.

And that right there is why he should be gone

given the cap space we have right now, the potential in the roster and the promise shown in the lower grades, I'd like to think 18 months. if we can do our due diligence and find somebody who isn't going to make massive change and isn't going to deviate from what Hartigan has begun to create, I can't see why that's not achievable.

we need a new voice to get the boys up who understands the modern game with structures and a game plan equipped for it. I genuinely believe our roster, with a couple of additions at 12, 13 and on the wing is good enough for finals football, providing we can find someone that can teach these pretenders to defend and pull their fingers out.

Yeah 2 weeks from now on

The club has had enough of choosing coached over players when it knows we have the best squad of any team in the last 20yrs

Well that's an issue.
Don't have an issue with the different name for the KOE cup.team - but as an organisation it should all be under the one pyramid.

If you take panthers as the gold standard, im sure they haven't split their pathway across two seperate organisations

I don't know that, it was just a guess. If it is the case it may be that they are just paid from a seperate source that leaves them off the list. When managing schools I've had that in the past, didn't prevent us from operating as one organisation though.
