Over past month or so, the media carried out numerous reports, Maguire was only hours away from sack. Quoting “reliable sources”, people “within club” All delivered as FACT. Yet here we are, Maguire retains his job. Who apologises, compensates Michael or the club, for inaccuracies & stress?

Gus, is that you? I had no idea you were on WTF.

Gus is a funny fellow..

Just saw Chammas on 9... poor fella looked like he was going to cry..

Watched them both on 100% footy last night, Chammas dribbled on about Madge like an absolute fool, really unprofessional, Gus rebuffed him and Gallen didn't even acknowledge him with a response.
I'm prepared to suffer on losing with Madge than give Chump Chammas an ounce of satisfaction. Same goes for Pooper and Slothfield.
Time will tell but my personal preference was if we were to move on from anyone it should be Pascoe first.

The board and club have a fail safe .. Tim Sheens moves straight in if there are problems next season !

Tim Sheens would have zero hope of being able to coach a current NRL side.
People seem to forget his record after leaving here … as well as his last year at the Tigers.

I believe at most Sheens will be a conduit between Maguire and the rest of the organisation. He won't be coaching anything.

Here’s the inevitable situation in 12 months.

We’re in the middle of another heavily publicised review, Maguire is undoubtedly sacked as the club finished bottom 4 yet again and our 4 best young talents in Laurie, Doueihi, Stef and Blore all come off contract at the same time and can talk to teams as of November 2022, during that time Pascoes first priority is to find a new barber before a new coach and we lose all 4 again. Embrace this reality now so you’re not as disappointed when it happens.

Umm, you told us all that he was inevitably sacked this time. And, guess what? You were wrong.

Why would we pay any attention to your predictions for 2022? Or, in fact, anything you write?? Some of us are smarter than that @yeahcaz

Only thing that saved him was a bunch of old farts writing to the club that they would pull their memberships if he was sacked and with our board and CEO the way they are, I’m stunned they caved to such empty threats. At yesterday’s time it was more than safe to assume he was gone.

If you genuinely think he’ll be here this time next year or the club will be in a better spot because of keeping him now, you are completely deluded.

No need to make everything a personal attack mate, don’t know who you think you are.

I am not entirely convinced that Madge hasn't just been given a stay of execution. If we aren't better than 50% after Round 5 next year he'll be gone.

So just sack him now ?! God this is so brainless it’s infuriating. We’re not going to be able to sign any players for 2022 let alone 2023 when we can’t guarantee the coaches safety

Maguire is not the reason for players not coming here. The problem is much higher up in the organisation. You’ve just witness the debacle that is the Board. Therein lies the problem.

If you boil everything down to actual facts and confirmed, the board has been very professional post season. They have done everything correctly post season.

Depends were the leaks came from or if the jurnos are just making it up. The Board can fight all the like in the Board Room, but outside there they need to present a united front. Several sources have told me they were split down the middle. Nobody but the Board should know that.

Agreed, but being split down the middle isn’t a crime or poor management. I’m split down the middle myself in my opinion of whether Madge would stay.

Do you want a medal, or a chest to pin it on? Big whoop, you followed to Maggies when they sucked. I followed Balmain from the early 90's into Wests Tigers. Not much to cheer about there either.

I think anyone who has followed Wests Tigers since it's inception understands what disappointment is. Some people are happy to stick it out through thick and thin. Would have thought an old Magpie or Balmain fan would understand that. I mean after all, we're all still here...?

Inside story: Why Maguire was spared the axe at the Wests Tigers
By Michael Chammas and Adrian Proszenko
Updated September 21, 2021 — 3.02pmf

Michael Maguire fronted the club’s football committee on Monday facing an uphill battle to keep his job.

A board meeting had already been set up for 4pm to determine his future, with indications from within the club suggesting Maguire was a dead man walking.

In the meeting, Maguire agreed to a range of provisions around the structure and operation of the football department in 2022, including the implementation of Tim Sheens in a coaching director role.

One of the other concerns that was raised, which was raised in the findings of the internal review, was a separation between the club and the football department.

Maguire was told there would need to be greater engagement between the club and football department, but also was made aware of the club’s desire to have a greater say in the people he surrounds himself with.

At the end of the meeting, the element of the board that wanted Maguire to continue were reluctant to meet for the scheduled board meeting. It was subsequently cancelled, giving the club the night to think about the future of the club.

Privately it believed that even if it decided to move on, the man they wanted as a replacement - Penrith assistant Cameron Ciraldo - was unlikely to take the job at such late notice given his commitment to the Panthers and their quest for a premiership.

This morning the football committee reconvened. The decision, which had swayed multiple times since the club’s final round humiliation at the hands of Canterbury, had to be made.

Ultimately it was decided that it was in the best interest of the club to back Maguire, at least for another year, despite obvious concerns from people in positions of power to start fresh.

“Yesterday there was a football committee meeting and the concerns that were raised by the football review were brought to Michael’s attention,” chairman Lee Hagipantelis told the Herald on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael responded to them in a genuine and sincere manner, and the football committee was very impressed. There’s no questioning of Michael’s passion, commitment and dedication to the club. It was simply a process we had to go through. The board meeting that was convened yesterday was only convened if required.

“It was determined it was not required, and we wished to deliberate further, which we did this morning. The determination was was made to affirm Michael’s employment. We immediately relayed the news to Michael who was humbled by the show of faith in him by the club.”

Maguire has for now been spared the axe, with the coach to remain in charge of the Wests Tigers after surviving the club’s controversial review.

Maguire is under contract for the next two seasons, but there was speculation he was to be sacked for the club’s underwhelming 13th-placed finish. However, the club has confirmed he will remain in charge of the joint-venture outfit.

While we always understood this review and process would take time, it was the responsibility of the football committee to ensure all information was considered to make the right decisions for the club moving forward,” Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said in a statement.

“Michael has been with the club over arguably its most challenging time with the COVID-19 pandemic, has overseen significant change both on and off the field throughout his tenure and, on behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to thank him for his effort so far.

“We are firmly committed to building a high performing club. With our strong financial position, increased investment and recent success of our pathways teams, the new Centre of Excellence and continued work on a South West academy, the arrival of Tim Sheens and his experience in NRL systems, this club is posed to reap the rewards of several years of hard work.

“We believe that through Michael’s vast experience and by continuing to challenge the way we operate, we will continue drive the high standards and behaviours needed to ensure we achieve our goals as a club.”

What I read from this is now Madge reports to Sheens and Madge agreed to sack his assistants/mates to save himself. In terms of power play it looks like power has shifted significantly in the club with Sheens the head of everything football. Given how weak Pascoe is on football matters it basically makes sheens now the king accountable only to the board

I don't think anything changed, by the sounds of it when the football committee presented their finding to madge he accepted them, accepted their recommendations moving forward and the board, after thinking it over overnight, agreed to let him continue.

I doubt a board that was looking at a $750k payout changed their mind because of a few emails about memberships.

Wow, I assume you using the term "a bunch of old farts" is not a personal attack? But, I'll let others decide that.

Well no it isn’t because I said a bunch. If I wanted it to be a personal attack I would’ve said “an old fart, like yourself”
