Interesting to read about the training intensity. I'm all for it, but apart from Round 1 against the Raiders i have made comment to my family every week that we look gassed early in the games. It stands out like dogs balls. We always hear about the the ruthless off-season stuff and expect to see a really fit side turned out in the premiership, so why do they always look so tired so early in games? It is certainly reflected in line speed and attack.

I think it is an attitude thing missing

By all accounts, Madge is an intense character - my guess is that can be exhausting after a while.

So let the class dictate who the teacher is rather than abide by his methods?

This is exactly why we are in this position.

It’s Maguire’s team. The guy is what we need. If players don’t like it, sod off.

Agree that there's a responsibility on the players part, and I guess all NRL coaches would intense in their own way. I don't think the class should dictate terms, but I do think they have a right to agree or disagree with how a coach gets their point across. Players can say what they want publically and tow the line, but their level of buy-in can be determined by their attitude shown on the field.

Player management becomes difficult when teams are losing. It's a tough balance to strike is what I am getting at. If he can turn this around he'll be a legend. Looking at their body language on the weekend though, I'm not confident.

I’m sick of sacking coaches every few years, but the question is if the rumours are true, this is not a good thing for us.

If Tamou a veteran of the game who’s played for his country, state and over 250games and only just come to our club has the need to chat to the coach at half time because the team and him believe the game plan isn’t working. Gets punished for it aswell... This only sounds like the rumours we heard last year about egg shells, bad communication and lost the room.. somethings up!

Why was tamou hooked after just 25ish mins.. Madge was coy about it during the post game interview.

Secondly benji hinted at similar things, Josh aloia also said stuff happened Behind the scenes, also contracts being offered but not being registered for McIntyre.

Madge is the kiwi coach and somehow can’t recruit any top stars? Watching the Shaun Johnson interview it’s clear players talk to other players about the coach. What are players saying about our coach? We haven’t signed anyone major and we have premiership winning coach.

Madge is supposed to be a defence coach but somehow our last 12ish games we have let in over 20 points.. why do we have no line speed this early in the comp? The players shouldn’t be fatigued already. We know Madge is old school do we think he can adapt to what is relevant now days? You can’t treat every player the same, the game has changed in regards to rules. Old techniques don’t work and you need to adapt? Is madges game plan outdated?
Does Madge train them too hard during the week that by game day the boys aren’t 100% up for it. (Sure seems that way)

if we get rid of Madge is there anyone better on the market?
( we put a clause in the contract funnily enough just incase there was a mutiny)

Maybe we can hire someone like Morris to work between the coach and players.. will be hard if Madge is as hard nosed as reported

Long read I know but at the end of the day, I don’t want this to stall us anymore, I don’t want to lose players because of it. Talau, Simpkin Blor, Laurie, Tuki. If it’s the players or the coac, I choose the playe

“if we get rid of Madge is there anyone better on the market?
( we put a clause in the contract funnily enough just incase there was a mutiny) “

Are the players also aware of this?

Well they are now it was in the paper

If they're gassed, it's not from fitness training, but more of their own lifestyle choices and/or recovery outside of football, eg diet & nutrition, sleep. Sometimes, it's a partner or family matter.

Roberts & Nofa weren't in the right place on Sunday, mind wise & body. Were they on the sauce or up all night playing PlayStation, being that they're housemates? Who, but themselves, knows exactly. But it looks like to me their lives outside of football is affecting their performances on the field.

They're human like everyone else and have the right to live a life. But like anyone else, if it affects your job, that's an issue.

Seems prudent to have the clause inserted. Just in case or prior knowledge of issue?

It may be prudent to include such a clause, but it is absolute insanity to make it known to the players, or anyone else for that matter. These boofheads haven’t learnt anything from past mistakes.

Is it possible there is a white ant or two on the board?

There are at least 2 white ants on the board, remember what happened to Marina Go when she tried to fight for the club instead of accepting Turdbergs edict.2 traitors from our board supported Turdberg and not our club

Emotionally fragile? Why would a highly paid professional footballer be mentally weak? And why would there be a high ratio of mentally weak players at WT?

There's a culture of losing unfortunately, and it sounds cliched, but winning is a habit.

Think back before 2005 - the team wasn't great then either. The catalyst was a bunch of younger players (Benji, Farrah) + players from other clubs who had had success (Prince, Whatuiria) + a coach who could nuture that. Yes, the older players played a role, but it was the culture that needed to change.

There hasn't been a lot of success in this current crop, and that hole is difficult to get out of. You need a coach that is a master of man management, player psychology to get out of it.

Good post mate and thanks for the other info earlier.

Don't be scared of sharing any info that comes your way, its appreciated on here by most. It's just one or two that will attack anyone that may make a remark that paints the club in a bad way.

I dunno mate. You are referring to two players on the weekend. Ive seen this from most of the team every week. I'm all for the intense training, but you don't run a marathon before a marathon. I'm sure the staff know what they are doing, it's just an observation from an uneducated outsider looking in.

Cheers - and to be clear, the person who shared it wasn't happy about it, nor were they trying to create negativity/spread rumours. It was more an observation on what was happening and how they weren't sure if it was the right way to go about things. Everyone involved wants the team to be successful.

Apologies if original posts didn't sound like that! Relatively new to the forum and need to be careful how written word can be interpreted.

I don’t disagree with any of that, but surely the solution needs to be found before we get to the cliff edge when there will be no solution other than more manpower changes.
Not really a solution but born from panic, merely a short term change disguised as a solution.
We have to break the cycle of mismanagement and poor choices. It’s running like Groundhog Day.

This team is a mirror reflection of the entire organisation. If the players are mentally weak, then the organisation is mentally weak. Someone needs to stand up and call it for what it is.

The club’s decision makers thought it was a good idea to transfer authority to players, so when the players started sacking coaches any new coach would find it difficult to open the hearts and minds of players to new ideas.
players and coaches should be able to have a democratic discussion regarding defensive/ attack structures etc. however when it comes to critiquing a head coaches method of delivery then that is showing a lack of respect imo.
Discuss the merits or otherwise of the message, but leave the messenger to be handled by who he reports to.
I honestly think our players are fitter and more highly skilled than what they are showing us.

John Morris has gone well at the Sharks under difficult circumstances. He also had a lot of involvement in the very successful pathways at the Sharks. Listen to him at his press conferences and he communicates well and has some history at WTs under Sheens.

Get him here as an assistant and he can take over from Madge when his contract runs out.

Same here. I don't think we should sack him but that is a coaching issue. The team is under performing.
