Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

I honestly believe if we fixed our defence we’d make the 8. Attack can improve for sure but it’s enough to win enough games as is. What’s not good enough to win games is our defence. Sounds simple I know but sometimes the simple is best and maybe that’s Madges approach but not working for some reason

If we're this bad next year I'd be surprised if he keeps the job.

How many rounds?

They should just do it now.

Hopefully Pascoe doesnt do another Jason Taylor and sack him 3 rounds in wasting the off season

I agree. Apparently there is a review coming up at the end of the season. The season has been terrible and there has been a lot of arguments as to where the problem lies. Whatever the review decides, they need to act on it straight away. I hope that, as part of the review, someone contacts all the players who rejected us and get their opinion of what is wrong at the club. Once the problem is defined get rid of it, them...whatever, but do it in the off season. We can't go into next season with more of the same. I know some people say we need to be patient with Madge's plan. We have been patient for 10 years too long - 3 of them under Madge's leadership. Time for change.

Sheens would be a great coach in this era. Shame he isn't a tad younger. Prob doesn't want to coach?

He’d be a great coaching director with a rookie coach under him. I think we’ll see that set up soon enough.

Hope you're right.

On the contrary I think the trouble is we *haven't* been patient for ten years. If we'd stuck with any one of our coaches, I have no doubt we would have made the 8 at least a few times.

Sheens was always a great coach

The MAESTRO of the miraculous 2005 GF win.
He was there, it was the best of our times,
We are now in the worst of our times.
We are stumbling in the darkness and hoping to see the light,
Tim Sheens has arrived,
the Maestro of the Mighty WT.

Cleary - yes definitely would have made the 8, but he decided to up and leave. Potter - possibly. I didn't agree with his sacking at the time.Taylor - no way. Madge - 3 years no improvement....

Potter - no
Cleary- yes if Nathan came
Taylor - no
Madge - job to clean the above mess, maybe if allows sheens to help

I think these last 2 games should be the trigger point for acting or not. Team performs better OK stay for the next season, team continues on its bumbling, incoherent way, bye bye Maguire (and around 7 to 10 of the existing squad). That gives off season to do a formal review and get a new coach giving them ability to purchase whatever new players they can and promote from wihtin.

Any new coach can be told they must work within the parameters of the developing WT plan, just a Maguire can.

I also think Hartigan is surplus to our needs now, since we are going to develop from within we dont need a specialised recruitment officer to look fro talent from outside. We will have Head coach (fill in name here), that bloke who i cant recall name of that works considering player stats and worth, Sheens and Pascoe with Kimmorley keeping his eyes on the junior squads. Surely that is enoughif we arent going to regualryl try to get talent from outside the pool of WT developed product- an individual approach to either club or the player coming off contract doesnt need Hartigan anymore surely.

Hartigan is instrumental to our success, getting in before the bigger clubs to sign young talent. With the network of school teachers, spies, scouts etc we can stay ahead of the bigger clubs. With Sheens aboard the face of WTs is much more palatable for potential recruits.
