Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

The more I think about it the more I'd like Madge to stay.
Knowing each week that not only will we not win, but that the players won't even be trying to win will be kind of relaxing.
Very good for my blood pressure and happiness level.

This is the stupidity of it all..

Lee and Pascoe have washed their hands of it basically patting each other on the back with all the 'resources' thrown at the football department ..then throwing their hands up in the air wondering why it's not working..

Football doesn't work like that..I could go on but frankly I'm sick of it...

Hear hear!

Reading all the reactions on here alone (from what's been put out there by the club) and the fact they're multiplying at a scary rate - with each post more passionate than the last - I'm honestly starting to feel annoyed with the lack of restraint.
Broncos and Sharks, this year, have managed to keep everything under wraps despite a lot of media probing and speculation.
They need to be a lot smarter with their messaging IMO.

does anyone have Lee's email adress?

I recently wrote to Pascoe about the news I heard that Parra are preparing to offer Steff a big contract come Nov next year (my friend used to be the chairman of the club) and i told Justin that we should bum up his contract now to avoid the Payne Haas (brisbane issue) and the Matto issue etc.... and all i got back was "thanks noted".

Anyway id like to email Lee if anyone knows his email.

thanks

I was skimming so fast through the posts, I thought I'd read:

"...........Lennie Pascoe ......" instead of Lee and Pascoe.

I think these threads are starting to take a toll hahaha

If we had Lennie Thommo and Lillie we wouldn't be in this mess...the other teams would be afraid..

I can't see Bennett being the next coach. If they sack Madge they will throw a rookie coach in there. Because thats all they will be able to afford.

Why is that all they can afford. Club is doing well financially and Bellamy level coaches cost less than a Latrell. IMO if they let Madge go they should just though stupid money at Ciraldo and put your eggs in that basket.

Wouldn't they have to pay out Madge for breaking his contract?

You missed the Chammas clause...

For those at home playing alone who also missed it..

Maguire not the problem: Brooks in cross-hairs as Tigers ask ‘where to now?’
By Michael Chammas

Michael Maguire has a clause in his recently-extended two-year contract that would allow the Wests Tigers to hit the eject button without much of an impact to the bottom line.

It’s the protection mechanism that the club were adamant they needed in case the rumblings around Maguire’s relationship with the players spilled over and left them with no choice but to part ways.

So according to Chammas as far back as 12 April 2021, the "rumblings around Maguire's relationship with the players" was considered serious enough to include a protection mechanism in Maguire's extension contract.

If a prospective recruit contacted one of our players and asked about joining WTs, what do you believe the advice would be?

And exactly which player in our current squad - Would you be taking life advice from?

Haha...

Not much life experience across the roster eh.

Non of them strike me as genius's - They don't even do what they do efficiently...

Bunch of mamas boys.
Eat at restaurants for every meal and play video games.

Think they're rock stars.
Haven't worked a hard day in their lives.

More worried about their hair and looking good on TV than playing footy.

Extremely upsetting.

"more worried about their hair and looking good on tv than playing footy"...spot on @Demps
I noticed when our mob were running onto the field at the start of Cini's 2nd [disastrous] game, most of our blokes looked focused on the game ahead. But Cini looked into the tv camera with a big smile on his face.
I feel he thought after his 1st [good] game he was a star player, it had gone to his head, but very quickly and unfortunately found out he wasn't as good as he thought he was.
A real pity as he seems to have plenty of personality and is probably a really decent bloke.

Consider yourself lucky you got a response. Most CEO’s don’t reply directly to members and fans emails. In fact another team CEO lost his job because he spent too much time responding to members at the expense of focusing on business operations.

I’d like Madge to stay but bring in the local under 14’s kids to play. I estimate they would run harder.

Good god the coaches fate in the hands of the leaders of the team - who are they Im still trying to figure that out. Players at other clubs must be killing themselves with laughter at the joke. We pay them for this.
And fans ask why we can't attract quality players. The next sucker better come with a mental health plan in order.

Don't you have confidence in Pascoe and Hartigan to filter the feedback? Pascoe's achievements with the Club's finances cannot be denied. He also brought Sheens back onboard. This is about WTs, not Maguire.

Not when it excuses their role in the clubs failure to get results - no. And clearly if they think that the leadership on the field this year is worth listening to - when from the outside looking in every one who knows anything about the game will tell you there wasn't any - then I have no confidence in anything they pretend to filter back.

Do you believe the Club is also receiving input from player managers? Perhaps Sheens has been in contact to remove roadblocks in players joining WTs?

I have no doubt that the reason why Sheens contacted all the player managers. But you can’t excuse Hartigan from that criticism.

But the one point your missing with the recruiting players is if they are professionals they want to strive to achieve something either on an individual level or on a group level. If regardless of a coach and the satisfaction of playing under one that individual can’t see a likelihood of a) being recognised as a rep player or b) being a part of club likely to win a premiership they aren’t going to want to sign with the club.
Even a 5 year contract wouldn’t entice the best player in the game to come here because those 5 years look dim.

Whomever is the coach, having Sheens in and around the Club imo will assist in removing the roadblock to recruiting NRL quality players.

Hopefully it removes roadblocks into getting rid of underperformers like Brooks and Nofoaluma

Wests Tigers hope to resolve review by end of week

The Wests Tigers concede they have gone backwards under Michael Maguire, but Chairman Lee Hagipantelis insists the coach’s future is not decided.

David Riccio and Brent Read

Tigers chair Lee Hagipantelis has revealed coach Michael Maguire will learn his fate within “days”.

The timeline of the embattled joint-venture’s all-encompassing review of the football department is underway with Hagipantelis refusing to sugar coat the fact the football team has gone “backwards” over the past three seasons.

The Tigers are in the midst of a club-defining review of their season having missed the finals in 2021 – an embarrassing drought of finishing outside the top-eight that dates back until 2011.

Maguire has two years remaining on his current coaching contract, but Hagipantelis stopped short of guaranteeing the head coach’s future.

Hagipantelis told SEN radio host Andrew Voss the Tigers board were cognisant of completing the review in order to make major decisions well in advance of next season.

Asked by Voss when the review would be completed, Hagipantelis said; “It’s a matter of days (away).

“I would be hopeful that at the end of next week the review would be complete and the board would be in a position to consider what, if any, changes need to be made for next year.

“It’s been suggested that the review is centred on one person and one person only – and that’s not the purpose of the review.

“It’s the same review the club undertook last year and undertook the year before and I suspect it’s the same review being undertaken by seven other clubs (that missed the top-eight) as well.

“The purpose of the review is to consider what the club did well and those things we did not do well and how we can improve.

“It would be remiss of us as an organisation not to look at the year holistically.

Because this year we finished 13th, last year 11th and the year before that 9th. So on that objective benchmarking alone, we haven’t improved – in fact, we’ve gone backwards.

“So there is an obligation as stewards of this club to delve deep into why that is the case and what changes need to be made so that in 12-months time, you and I aren’t having the same conversation.’’

Voss asked Hagipantelis – the principle of Brydens Lawyers – to state one way or another, if Maguire would be the coach of the club in 2022.

“It would be completely inappropriate of me to speculate on anything at the moment,’’ Hagipantelis replied.

“I’m the chair of the club of course, but there is an entire board that considers these matters and will do so in detail once the review has been completed.

“It would be unfair to every person involved for me to just speculate on these sorts of matters.

“I know that may be seen as somewhat unsatisfactory, I accept that, but it would be inappropriate for me to speculate on matters of that kind until the review has been completed and the entire board has had the time to consider it.’’

As much as I hate to say this...

It may be time to change clubs because if we migrate across West I may as well follow another team..

Everyone is ruining it, but big four eyed Lee is honestly just wanting to be in all the news articles.

In a alternate universe where the club is well resourced with capable, media savvy staff:

Media: Hagipantelis, can you tell us about what's happening with the review. Is Madge under pressure.

Hagipantelis: We need to let the process take its course. Otherwise, no comment.

Instead, this guy gives interviews on SEN mid review.

Good news everyone, I have obtained the transcript of the senior-level feedback from the club review.

Madge: "Eff boys, effing eff boys, eff! I believe in you boys, be the player you want to play with, eff! Where are the effing men, the ebbs and flows men, eff?"

Brooks: "Yeah nah, like, take control and stuff, yeah, make it your team. You know, like, it's the halfback's job."

Luch: "He heheh yeah nah man, hee bro, hee hee, but nah yeah seriously, Madge is a good guy, he made me an 80 minute player...hee hee oh yeah, well at least 60 minute player, hey?"

Twal: "Aye bro aye, what's up bro, eh? Nah fully leh, we need to try harder, eh? Come up with sumfink new."

Tamou: "Ets tremeendous bro; Mudge uz an eeexcellunt coach, cuz. Sweet az bro."

Pascoe: "Well, quack quack, this organisation demands success, with respect to on-field and off-field, quack quack, and you should see the new pond we are constructing out the back here: state-of-the-art, quack. State-of-the-art community-focus ponding, quack quack, that's one of the pillars of what this organisation stands for. We have tremendous feedback from all stakeholders within the organisation. We aim to be like the Man United of ponds, bigger than any ponds in Penrith."

Excellent!
