I’m not convinced a new coach fixes things to be honest. It’s a half transformed club. Sacking him now does nothing. It will be 90% his team next year and that’s his used by date if he doesn’t get results. I’m frustrated too but booting another coach just adds to the narrative that the joint is a coaching graveyard.

Unless we somehow snagged Craig Bellamy, a coach change alone won't solve this. I think the coaching staff need to be looked at though, whoever coaches the attack is struggling, and likewise defence.

our defence is beyond garbage , are we using the wrong systems ? I feel we are too compressed , because some of our inner defenders are poor laterally , which means teams spread it , and carve us on the edge .

Also why do we always compress on the block when it’s clear , the winger with ball is the target , and they aren’t even thinking about hitting the hole runners .

He came across genuinely frustrated and disappointed tonight, and rightly so. I don't know how he fixes it though. Some players definitely need to be dropped after tonight.

The lack of defensive resolve is the thing that does my head in. If the players used their shoulders, numbered up and hit hard, we wouldn't be in this position. The coaching staff definitely need to have the microscope put over them too in this regard.

There's no easy answers...

Interested to know who you’d say need to be dropped.

Not sure where to start personally.

In Madges Presser he says all the right things and is honest but at the end of the day, he has not got this team firing. Half of the players do not compete in defence and are lazy players in the 1% plays. They seem happy just to turn up do the minimum and get paid. The team has little unity or cohesion in defence or attack with Nofoaluma still unable to number up year after year for example.Brooks still looks lost although he can tackle. I think the only answer is to get a new coach. Get Bennett or Flanagan as sadly Madge has had little effect and the culture of the place is going downhill.

So you’re saying we should keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last 10 years in the hope that we’ll achieve success?

Why do you think Madge will be able to fix these issues now, when he’s been unable to in more than 2 years? There’s not even signs of improvement - we’re getting worse.

Because this club has taken years to run into the ground and cannot be turned around in the twinkling of an eye. Furthermore, why would we sack possibly the only person with the deepest conviction?

I can’t believe people are still listening to him
“We’ve got to do better”
“It’s not who Wests Tigers are”
Same rubbish every time

I often think his press conferences sound like he took over as coach two or three weeks ago. If Trent Barrett or Anthony Griffin said 'that's not who we are' and 'that's not what were building towards' then fair enough. Hard to say that after 2 and a half years.

The way we play in games is exactly who we are. Fans have come to accept that. I use to be devastated after a loss. Especially a game at home. Now I just turn up to games knowing exactly what to expect. No one in the grandstand tonight was shocked or surprised when the Titans scored three tries off three straight sets in that first half. It was just business as usual.

Yep I was sitting on the family hill right where they ran those tries in and it all just had a sense of the inevitability about it all. Someone needs to tell Madge that this is exactly who we are as a club

Surprised and pleased that many are backing Maguire on here. I agree with this. While this is another dispiriting display I just can't see a coach coming in and doing better. And recruiting players like Doueihi, Luciano and Laurie is very good talent identification. In a hopeless side the spirit of these players is encouraging.

Also, the fact that Doueihi so strongly backs Maguire suggests a lot. I think his support has been more than just the token backing the coach stuff, and if I was looking for an opinion on coaching from the playing group, Doueihi's opinion is about the only one I'd value.

I just don’t know what the answer is anymore.
The fact that our defence remains hopeless, he can’t get the team to show some energy and player like Nofa who continually makes the same defensive reads over and over again.
I know it’s the players but boy the coach has to take quite a bit of responsibility for this mess of a team.

I agree it will take time to turn around, but I don’t think he’s the man who can turn it around for us

Madge is the only credentialed coach that’s mad enough to do what needs to be done. Will we have the patience, or will we sack him and fall for another quick fix to get back to 9th?

Suck it up it’s a rebuild changing coach, CEO won’t do anything we need to develop players and bring them through and axe most of the senior players.

I’m at peace I can read a team list and the roster it’s not better than any team maybe the dogs.

Not really, because they carve us up through the middle too. It's line speed and tackle strength. Our players are very weak tacklers. Our markers are always messy and on the back foot with the third tackler unable to get back in the defensive line and the momentum builds throughout the set to the point where we're absolutely shot by the 4th and 5th tackle. We rarely pressure the kicker as a consequence and we get pinned down to start our attacking sets. We basically aren't competitive in the basics of football. It's great to talk about Brooks and our backs and all that, but our forwards can't tackle well and we're not winning games until they do.

I thin our attack is struggling to the point where our defence is bad. Sounds stupid I know!

We have no defence structure.
It just does not matter if our attack is good or poor ..... if we don’t effectively and enthusiastically approach our defence we are cooked .... and we are.
That for me is the key disappointment about this season.
Defence has fallen apart over and over again.
After nine rounds the coaching staff can’t fix that .... then that’s it for me.

I would rather Madge come out and say we are plain and simply crap and that this will be his greatest coaching challenge.

Nah sticking with the coach sack the players.

Agreed I mean how many Coaches can one team go through…Seriously!! How bloody embarrassing…

Brooks needs to be tapped on the shoulder and told to move on enough is enough, we need a confident halve to partner Adam…Other wise it’ll be ground hog day for a really really long time to come.

Hate to say it, but the side looks uncoached. They run around like a bunch of 6 year olds that dont know each other. Defensive structures seem non existent and our attack terrible. Time our play makers practiced their kicking for repeat sets. I dont like replacing head coaches but if not, it must be time some assistants go. As someone mentioned in another thread, our centres see very little ball and yet our 5/8 is often our best player. I dont know where we go from here but unfortunately the future looks bleak.

Reading between the lines I’d say this is what he’s telling mr Pascoe behind closed doors.

Think he hit the nail on the head with everything he said in his press conference. Quite simply called out the players for their lack of commitment effort and their inconsistency

As he said, he shouldn't have to tell NRL players that they should defend every set with effort and urgency, it's embarrassing what they dish up.

I reckon the warm up was too long ..
They looked spent .

I noted the warm up, as I have before, and I thought the Titans looked more focused, on their toes and cohesive than our mob. No surprise they found the energy and focus to get to an 18-0 lead after 13 minutes. I think "staff", as Maguire keeps mentioning, could be an issue.

@happy_tiger mentioned it the other week as they warmed up then came out to play ..
Disinterested was the word
