Madges Presser

We simply lack star players. Doesn't matter who coaches us. None of our players are even close to origin players. Have look at other rosters in comparison. Attracting star players is our biggest issue.

Thats a cop out. The players we have just don’t have the pride and passion to cut the lazy play out.

AD is a brilliant example he has moments in the game where he leads and lifts our attack but geez in defense he trots around and can be very very lazy - he even admitted it last week. That’s just crazy and shows they aren’t being coached well. When a break is made most don’t chase outside of Joe & Brooks.

Its why Harry was awesome last year, he had that hunger to want to never give up to try every play with or without the ball and was our best player because of effort alone.

The rot started when we knifed potter. Never recovered despite using the word culture exactly 24,492 times in interviews since then.

If we are going to knife another coach then it's time to forgive Cleary, why would you stay? Looking at all the coaches we've tried his days were clearly numbered (jokes. Still hate him).

If we do ditch him then time to look for a young coach who can make the boys "feel loved". Flogging them doesn't work they are too weak. Bring back the boys club at least you could watch the games without feeling like you need to burn your jersey while you are wearing it.

I believe that's when it started too.

I don't buy this stuff. It's not factual. To me it's a cop out.

It's bigger than players and coaches. We've had the same issues for a decade no matter who's at the club, it's not a coincidence.

So if we had the best team and the best coach we'd still lose because .....

You just proved my point in relation to your comment being a cop out.

You don't have to buy them. You can develop them and retain them. Look at Melbourne. They get them and lose them but they have so many coming through it's not an issue.

Watched it due to all the comments on this thread.

I do agree it was slightly more refreshing then the fluff

Most concerning comment was
“You look at the top teams in the competition and every play counts,”
"I shouldn’t have to tell players to be like that. They have to want to be like that. They have got to want to be the players and the staff that want to get the Wests Tigers out of this position we are in."

Just a job for these clowns

Absolutely. This was the most telling comment in his presser for mine. Madge knows that he simply doesn’t have players that are willing to play like “every play counts”. We have a team full of guys that just aren’t hungry enough to do what it takes to win every moment in a game. Unfortunately, as there are no X Factor players in the side either, we can only win with 100% effort from every member of the team, and very few in this team have that real quality of character as footballers.

We can win games if everyone plays perfect footy but they don't have the mental discipline to do that.

Because everyone that comes here stops giving a damn because the culture of the place is rotten

star players arent born theyre made (in most cases)

look at jahrome hughes, youd prob say now hes a star halfback, but took 3 or 4 years of first grade to make that happen. if we signed him tomorrow it would be declared a marquee signing

we have some talent, theyre just not being used properly

I don't agree. It is easy to hide less than stellar coaching under the guise of poor culture. If that were the case it would permeate throughout the club. Our lower grades are doing well so is the culture problem localised?

I see where your coming from JC99,I would also like to say that for far to long the players thought they were bigger than the club and were the club, that culture was let go for to long by weak management and coaches trying to get rid of it were eventually sacked, the boys club ran the place...fast forward to 2019 and Madge comes in with the desire to instill a better culture and develop the junior pathways that were let diminish and we are now finding true talent in the younger grades and ressies..
He has a huge job with the FG because of playing young guys learning the game, older guys underperforming and had restrictions re the cap...
The team has shown that they are coached well when you can play a top 4 team to golden point and win a couple of games while teaching the youth all about NRL fg...the problem is that the players cant concentrate for 80 mins to do their job as a team, they fall away at times and then come back when the game is gone...immaturity and lack of experience for some, not up to NRL standard for others and yet people want winning results straight away...
I dont care if Madge walks away or gets sacked ..its probably better for his own mental state if he left, however if he has to go so should at least 50%of this mediocre roster....

Our lower grades are doing well for the first time in a long time and that's due to Madge and hartigan signing good young talent.

The coach has set himself up to be punted , the team is a rabble has been for a couple of seasons. Maguires stubbiness for what ever reason not to surround himself with some professional assistants to help with attacking and defensive structures is going to cost him his job.
The constant selection of individuals that just can not perform to NRL level is another weakness that is being exposed ..I am so over reading posters backing many of these players .,these players are just plodders that have been elevated to a level that they would not attain at any other club !
I DO blame the coach as he is the one responsible for this mess .. He selects these plodders ever week it is pathetic watching these pretenders .

good post
madge needs guys like Morris as an assistant good communicator

These guys should go

Shane Millard — NRL Assistant Coach
Wayne Collins — NRL Assistant Coach

Yes the current assistant coaches are not doing a good job are they, I think we need a cleanout in that department- couldn't do any harm:anguished:

It would be unfair for the assistant coaches to get the sack while Madge remains. Ultimately he’s the head coach - he should go too.

Unfortunately its not a good look for the club if we continue to dismiss our head coach, These assistant coaches come with good credentials - but I guess that doesn't help if they are not gelling with the players perhaps. However I do not know what is going on, I guess like everyone else I just want to see us winning for a change:expressionless:

I’m not sure we could look much worse. I just saw an article in the DT saying we should be wound up. We need results on the field ASAP. As much as I dislike him personally Flanagan would be a better coach for us.

He made the Sharks one of the grittiest teams in the NRL. Not many teams had easy wins over them and they could defend better than most.

He might be a grubby person but he coached the Sharks well.

In Madges Presser he says all the right things and is honest but at the end of the day, he has not got this team firing. Half of the players do not compete in defence and are lazy players in the 1% plays. They seem happy just to turn up do the minimum and get paid. The team has little unity or cohesion in defence or attack with Nofoaluma still unable to number up year after year for example.Brooks still looks lost although he can tackle. I think the only answer is to get a new coach. Get Bennett or Flanagan as sadly Madge has had little effect and the culture of the place is going downhill.

getting flanagan as a coach would be about as inviting as Elias being a majority owner of our club....no thanks

The fact no-one can see Mbye for what he is (a solid reggie at best), is the problem with this organisation.
Lets make Mbye captain, that'll turn his game around, NOT. He should be dropped and earn his spot like everyone else in the club. We allow Momirovski to leave and follow the guy who ruined the club, none other then Ivan the Terrible, and he's proved to be a quality utility under the tutelage of Bellamy.
Jimmy the Jet gets no clean ball, nor does BJ, nor does argueably our best player Dane Laurie.
Instead of rewarding blokes like Nofa we give the captaincy to a Penrith reject who's out to pasture .
Who remembers Warren Boland (winger) and passionate Wests captain back in the day.
It's not impossiblefor a winger to be captain, especially the way he carries the ball back, Inspirational. I was shattered when Teddy left who shoulda woulda coulda been captain, but totally understand why he did. If he had stayed at the Tigers he would have finished his career with zero premierships and many regrets.
Get some soul Tigers and stop languishing at the bottom of the table it's embarrassing.
Coaching staff need to grow a set and make some difficult calls and blood some reggies who are putting in week after week. That'll do me.
