Yep,same old, same old from Madge on BSB. Yep, he says "we went away from the good things",he has lot's of belief, he says - "respect for the Warriors, they are a WORLD CLASS team! (since when, have i missed something?). "We are building and growing" yadda yadda.."buying into our culture, got to change and be consistent" another of his monotonous quotes. He knows what we are capable of!! Yes, we saw that against the Warriors a team put together with spare parts and a coach who doesn't want to be there (Payten).

He didn’t call the team world class , he said they have world class players, cause ... they do ! RTS and their back row to start with ! We still should won, but they have some real talent in that team .

The team is building , the deadwood is slowly getting drifted out . Players like Reynolds , McQueen Clarke , Jennings ,Taylor have all had plenty of time to prove it . Even young seyfarth has shown he probably isn’t up to it . Then there’s guys like McIntyre who have proved they are totally up for it and Blore has been a revelation . Throw in the huge amounts of elite juniors who’ve made thier way to the club the last 12 months , and yea we are building .
And No despite brief crops of juniors it’s been a very long time since we have had this amount of young weapons in our junior ranks .

Yes, I'm not referring to the young up- and- comers. I'm just sick of the dead wood, Madge got Jennings over to us, pulleeeease! Jennings not good enough for SG Ball i would rather Michael Jennings with an ACL than his brother.

You can't buy a race horse when you only have enough money for a Donkey

We don't have the pulling power of the Roosters. We do have the capacity to attract the best of the young players just on the periphery of the NRL. This is our niche market and one area where WTs has had excellent results.

But we need to accept it will take time and I believed most were in agreement we need to hang tough until the talent reaches maturity. Our issue will be when they perform in the NRL and then the predatory clubs will come calling.

"Dead wood" is basically unavoidable in a 30-man roster, especially if you have to use 25+ of that roster.

Also dead wood is highly subjective, so the specific players you are sick of might have use or specific purpose as a backup.

Thanks for the insight after the game the night prior.
Seems the same old rhetoric in reality he just could not have the ready to perform and a few selection decisions that has forum members questioning.
Agree needs a turnover of senior players to make changes and has another year on his contract to make things happen, alas not this year.

look at Parra and newcastle it takes time to turn the titanic around

They've both done it MUCH faster than we have. 9 years on and we're still shuffling around. They get a spoon or two, clear the decks and sign superstars. We're a joke.

Give Madge a further 2 year extension and let him do his thing.

We still let Cleary and Panthers off way too lightly. We should have insisted he take one of the bad contracts with him to the Panthers or no deal. He screwed our cap for years and we settled for 500k outside the cap. Not good enough.

It's a little bit more complicated than saying they've done it much faster. They have had stability in front office and coaching on Parramatta's behalf and an influx of serious wealth on Newcastle's behalf (and even then have Newcastle achieved much with it so far?) .

On our side we have had Humphreys, Grant Mayer and Pascoe in the front office plus Sheens, Potter, Taylor, Cleary and now Maguire as coaches. That's 8 people involved in key recruitment and decision making in 9 years! You will NEVER achieve any success as an organisation with the unclear vision that amount of change brings. Sadly, I would say we wrote off 7.5 years there, which is unfathomable for any business. Really, if Maguire and Pascoe don't succeed here I don't know why the NRL would keep us around. Aside from their financial donations they've never had enough resources or leadership themselves to help us out.

Teams/businesses need strong governance and we've simply never had it until now. Without it you become a novelty, a hobby, like the Newtown Jets. Belatedly though I think we have our ShiP in order.

Nah not really . They both had the right coach at the helm ,to steer them through . So many previous managements ar this club were swayed by a good interview , not who was the best . This really killed our progress . We then got Voldemort to truely start the rebuild and Madge has kicked it up a notch , recruiting some of the best youngsters getting around out there . Now that it appears the right support staff are in place , it’s a waiting game to see , who pushes through , and inevitably some won’t .

You have contradicted yourself and therein lies the answer. IMO Potter started the rebuild, Taylor was a speedhump and Cleary drove the bus off a cliff. We are not 9 years on, we are really only 18months on from the nuclear explosion within our organisation that we are recovering from.

The potter clearance was a good one . He messed up by getting Robbie offside . If he had a brain in his head he would have embraced Robbie.
IMO we would have been much further along If we signed someone like hook griffen instead of Taylor . Anyways we are here now , the team has good talent , just missing something . Hopefully Blore or AJ are the “thing “ we are missing . Who knows lol

I agree on extending Madge. We need stability for any kind of success. On the bright side we haven’t had any spoons which is more than you can say about the eels/knights.

We’re not far off. Our time will come.

It's good that Madge wants to bring in new blood....but who is going to come to us? **What cattle are out there that would improve what we already have?**

Seriously???

Yeah....asking opinions not that I see us having the greatest squad ever and couldn't think of anyone

Barely any player on our team would make it into any of the top 6 teams. It is a woeful team on paper.

Here have a gander. https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/08/04/round-13-nrl-squad-announcements/

Even the next teams mostly have better players 1:1 than us. If you disagree; cest la vie.

Potter was smart. He could see Robbie was declining and wasn't worth a 4 year deal. He was still worth 900K, just not for 4 years.

Maybe , but he still could have got 600-700k , and he pretty much performed in “the above average dummy half “ spectrum until his retirement . Was that worth imploding the team , and doing yourself out of a job? Also , I’m pretty sure with Farah gone , the inmates were running the asylum .

Um, I’m pretty sure in 2014 Potter resigned Robbie to that 900k 4 year deal. If not him that did the deal he was certainly the coach at the time.
