Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire said he was pleased with the way his side closed out tonight's game against the Bulldogs — securing a much-needed two points in the process.

Having squandered a 22-6 lead midway through the first half to eventually trail the 16th-placed Bulldogs with less than 10 minutes to go, Maguire's side found another gear with Joey Leilua's late try and sideline conversion from Moses Mbye, before Luke Brooks stepped up to deliver the match-winning field goal.

For Maguire, it was an important result and moment for his side as they ended a run of three straight defeats in the process.

"It was nice to see they found a way to win," Maguire reflected after the game.

"We've had a couple of challenging weeks, and then we had control of this game and then we lost control through little areas of concentration.

"So it was nice to see Brooksy kick that field goal at the end.

He's been putting a lot of practice in to that so it was good to see it pay off.

"But I just think this group is better than where we are," he added.

"Little lapses of concentration put a lot of pressure on ourselves and it's happened in a number of games now. We put pressure on in the things we're doing, and if we can fix those up then I think it can be a hell of a lot better than what we've shown."

Having fought his way back from an awful injury over 12 months ago, Jacob Liddle's return was a highlight for Wests Tigers and for Maguire on the night.

"He was under a lot of pressure there in his first game back with a lot of their big fellas running straight at him," Maguire reflected with a smile.

"I thought he did a really good job.

"He's been out for twelve months and hasn't been able to play a game with the circumstances we're in so that's his first game back.

Great to see Moses with some enthusiasm. The way he was urging his team is something I’ve not seen from him . What was so different about this game, I wonder?

Against his former club maybe made a difference

Probably the old get one up over his old team 😂

But I agree, I liked how he went looking for hit ups, something I haven’t really seen before

Madge knows it wasn’t good enough and I’m sure they’ll work on it this week, but he’s happy with how they fought back to steal the win which is fair enough. Don’t wanna be critical of your team straight after a win and kill their confidence either

Yes, nowhere near good enough. Of course the dogs were happy with their highest score of the season.

You gotta enjoy the wins.

He did look happy in the comm box when the Field goal split the posts over the black dot..

Hope there are at least 8 new players next year.

The players asked for a soft week and if they had lost I think he would have flogged them. Maybe he still will.

Enjoy today's win... Will possibly be the last W for the year

I'm still banking on our usual script. Beat a few of the big teams, get back into a realistic chance of making the 8 then.... well you know the rest.

I hope we can damage Parra last round.

@950kcentre

He was good though.

Mbye actually went and said something tooth some intensity to Talau after he dropped the ball early on. The first bit of leadership, at least on camera, that I've seen.

The positive out of this game is that these are games we always lose. We get a lead, we lose the lead , heads go down and it’s game over. I will take the win as ugly as it was. But without changes to personnel, our finals drought ain’t changing any time soon.

From the presser I think that you can see Madge is starting to see that this side does not have what it takes to compete consistently. Poor game management, kicking and kick chase not to mention poor defence.I think realistically Madge is thinking about next year now,

I'm hearing you. Who cares if it was ugly, we got the 2 points and I agree any other year we would have lost that game 100%. Talk about doom and gloom on here atm.

That is a win itself..the fact that the team found a way to win when previously they would not have after scooting out to a winning margin, then having a breather while their opponents catch up. Then realising they’re in danger of losing, so they lose their way with a kind of compulsion in the face of confusion. There must have been a couple of experienced players who said..not this time..not now..not today.. not against the spoon favs. Could just be the lift they need to beat the chooks?
