Maguire post match comments insanity?

The players are not good enough. I'm even prepared to say that they try to a certain point but too many of them don't care too much about winning or losing so don't demand anything from each other. Probably all nice young men too.
Stefano chasing down Meaney was a defining moment - the difference between players that get it and have got it and those making up the numbers.

I don't think he had really processed what happened out on the field and wasn't thinking clearly...nah, he's done I reckon.

Mate, he has to be,,,, who tells the players to hang off the man with the ball every week? To not pressure the kicker, to run back and sideways and arm grab like Luke Brooks did for the first try today ? The defence is abhorrent,,, I am beyond disgusted with the lame structure and technique that the team employs every week in defence …. Soft does not even begin to describe it …… it is geriatric. Pedestrian rubbish being served up and Madge keeps running the same players out to do the same thing week in week out… they do not improve, ever … it’s as if they are not being coached at all! Madge has to go! Period!

He looks like a broken man. That “yep” when asked if he was the coach to turn the club around was far from convincing. His voice almost broke. Part of me feels sorry for him. His heart is in the right place, but he’s drinking from a poison chalice.

He cares more about turning this club around than most of the 30 man squad and most of the board.

I disagree with a few of his selections, and get frustrated with the game plan and question if he has the respect of the playing group.

But I know he is putting in, which is more I can say about our senior players.

Does anyone think that maybe Madge would be more suited to working in the recruiting side of things or doing something else in the background with WestsTigers.

He clearly has a lot of passion for the club and desperately wants to see WestsTigers succeed as an NRL power house maybe just not as it’s coach.

Definitely, if his ego could handle it.. he seems genuine and to be a decent well meaning bloke but he just ain’t cutting it as a first grade rugby league coach in the NRL .. the results do nothing warrant him being retained and the performance speaks for itself … everybody that knows Rugby League that watches this team can see just how woeful they really are !! The wooden spooners beat us 38 nil ….. how low can we go under Madge before reality and common sense prevail? Us fans have been tapping out for weeks , enough is enough!

Maguire absolutely deluded: “I know exactly where the team is going and the organisation knows where the team is going”

So according to his ‘logic’ it was his plan for the side to leak 30 points a game this season. To let in seven tries to the wooden spooners, have no line breaks against the worst defensive side in the competition and clearly must’ve known the Tigers NRL team would go backwards under his coaching every year he has been here.

Was that his pitch in the job interview back in 2018? “I’m the man to take over Cleary. I know you guys were 9th this year with the 6th best defensive record but if you want to improve the club long term, then I’m the man to lead this club to 9th, 11th & 13th placed finishes. But that’s not all…I’ll take that middle of the road 6th best defensive record in 2018 and deliver the second worst defence in the comp by 2021.”

“Ohhh lots of points per game? That sounds exciting! You’re hired!!” Pascoe.

It’s a shame Maguire never told the members or fans that the club would need to get worse every year under his watch because if he did, we too would’ve tempered our expectations and understood years ago exactly where the team was going under Maguire. Backwards.

It’s always a good sign when you hear the head of any football department complaining about missing/injured players - Bellamy, robinson even Cleary whinge never about players missing. Ever. Don’t think the Rorters have complained once this year about the size of their injury toll (only the man at in which they were injured). I’m any event, successful leaders celebrate it as opportunity. The next man up will do his job and do it well. But not at the Tigers. Jimmy Tamou and Luke Garner and James Roberts and all these other winners that have led/steered the team to loss after loss this season will suddenly become winners after their time on the sidelines?

This supposed ‘leader’ is making excuse after excuse and keeps taking about sticking to a path. The path to losing? The path to averaging 40+ missed tackles per game? He blamed Ivan for the salary cap mess, he blames missing senior players and covid shutdown affecting game time of younger players not playing week in week out…but no other coach is whinging or trotting out this crap. Is covid only affecting the tigers. Clearly the game has moved beyond Maguire and his ‘systems’. Once he had the answers. Now he is an assistant coach at best.

Because calling the players and their efforts out won't work...
He's backing his players - The same as all the guys that came before him do - Same as most coaches do.
Won't help him in the end - They're not man enough to own it...
Happy to blame a ref or a coach...

Bang on....You have been round long enough to know that it's never the Player fault..with this Club..

That’s the point! Most coaches. Most coaches get sacked and this bloke should be too. Bellamy calls player’s efforts out. Why aren’t we? Perhaps because Maguire is not currently in a position to. If you think Maguire’s coaching systems and approach to running a football department is working or is even remotely successful in this day and age then you’re deluded too. Not once has he said “i got it wrong”, “i keep rewarding mediocrity”, “look at my results. They speak for themselves”.
He keeps doing the same crap on and off the pitch. Crap that may’ve worked in 2014 - “wests tigers are always in the fight!” or “this should be the most important day of your life!”

Yeah mate..clearly the playing group don’t agree. Why don’t they agree? Possibly because he doesn’t inspire them. His communication style or methods doesn’t appear to be resonating with them because they keep dishing up the same crap week after week and then they’re rewarded by being selected again the next week. He doesn’t resonate with a lot of players seemingly.

But clearly his methods are not even remotely close to ‘successful’ in 2021. Or his previous years coaching here - or the later years at souths. 18 wins from his last 52 games in charge there..he leaves and they make the preliminary final under the broncos worst coach ever. But no let’s keep blaming everyone else but the head of the football department. The person whose sole job it is to be successful on the pitch…and isn’t. Who can’t inspire previously successful players to reach those heights again. Who releases players to go and play finals for other clubs. Or when Bellamy loans grant to get nrl experience Maguire loans momarovski to get experience in the best system in the nrl only to then immediately release MoMo to add value not to the tigers but to the Panthers…and why? Because Maguire told momo that Leilua and Roberts would be first choice centres - this despite BJ Leilua’s own admission that he’d eaten too many chicken burgers and under delivered the previous season - bearing in mind BJ is now not even with the team in Qld whilst momo is suiting up for an expected GF. Or Macintyre playing in the finals for the Titans. Marshall for souffs and aloai for manly. Why did mbye and all those other cats want to leave. Because they didn’t think the club could be successful? Or because the coach didn’t want them? Either way it warrants determining. If they wanted to leave the tigers - why? If they weren’t delivering on the pitch - why? Now that’s big picture thinking. Watching that crap today against the Bulldogs it was like the Tigers should just admit that they are now a feeder club at best under Maguire and probably should be competing against Wentworthville & Blacktown workers. When i mentioned this to a mate his response was “a feeder club to Newtown jets?” ?

Maguire claims “Next year the team will be vastly different” with two confirmed new signings.

Vastly different would be a new coach.

You state “I want to be a part of the club that fixes up the errors of the past ... Whether or not people are willing to go the distance, time will tell.”

How long do you need? If we’ve finished 9,11&13 under you, are we 15th next year, 17th the year after (presuming expansion) THEN we start moving up the ladder? Can you just hold on until the centre of excellence
If you’re not judged on your results then what are you judged on? Your resemblance to Dom ‘Woogie’ Woganowski from the movie ‘Something About Mary’?

There are better coaches currently plying their trade in the NRL and let’s face it; until they step away from the game we will presumably continue to finish well below their clubs on the field & competition ladder.

We have some wonderful youngsters coming through flegg, ball, matts and reserve grade. What sort of players are they aspiring to be? The type that score zero against the worst team in the comp? The type that get flogged at Tommy’s farewell game..ahem..make that games. The type that get 60 put on them in Qld or 50 odd on Anzac Day? Presumably not. But those are your results. Yet you keep selecting the same players the following week employing the same moves, the same lack of effort in the tackle and the same slow line speed in defence and attack.

Thanks for your efforts Madge. I like your passion. But let’s face it : not all relationships are happily ever after.

You make a strong case, but let’s not pretend these problems didn’t exist before he came along. Yep, we choked big time in the Tommy tribute games, but that’s in this clubs DNA. We fail in big games.

I don’t bother watching the press conferences anymore. Everyone has been the same the last 3 years

‘We’ll learn from that and move on’

This is a results business…..Madge is gone……will be announced after they lock down his replacement next week or the week after the latest….

If he’s gone, it won’t be official till the BS review, which surely wouldn’t end till after the grand final at the earliest. If they pull the trigger, pull it now. Don’t do what they did with JT and back him, only to sack him 3 weeks into the season. Last thing we need is for him to make some big money signings (lol), get the axe, only for the new coach to walk in and wonder what the hell are these guys doing on the books. Sound familiar?

There's no doubt when I listen to Flanagan it's reminiscent of hearing Cleary speak on Fox before he got the job with us, you know that type of sounding like he respects the players, respects the coach, thinks they can do better no real bagging.
I'm torn by this, feel for Madge think he genuinely likes our club and wouldn't shaft us like others. The players put in one week and not the next so it's weird.

But one thing really obvious to me is our team is devoid of teamwork in attack that has to come down to preparation or lack of.
Anyone else also noticed Dwyer in coaches box when cameras are on them almost looks embarrassed for Madge. Really depressing.

It’s a problem. I’ve said it before Madge is our Dean Pay. He had no chance here no one did. Scapegoat he will become and unfortunately that won’t bode well for recruitment and signing a new coach. We are actually a more attractive proposition for a 4 year deal scenario. We have cap space, COE and some very good younger players. Not as strong as the Sharks but the situation is not much different.

Sheens coming on board may enable them to go young. What will be found out if they sign another coach and no one is recruited is where the real problem lies. It has never been the coach albeit he hasn’t set the world on fire either.

If this is a pre meditated hatchet job via review I hope they are smart enough to have already lined up the coach.

Yes, **Madge** is the **Captain** of the **ship** but when the players are on the field he is effectively off duty and the control of the ship is then handed to his **first assistant** (this would be the halfback, the most important position in this game) so how did our ship's **first assistant** go today? And should we again have a look at all those posts in the past to judge if he is a good first assistant of a ship?

Interesting view.. so Tamou, Garner, Roberts, Mybe were missing today. Individually and collectively they were all part of all the disaster games this year . Sorry I have never seen any of them lead the team around on the field although I am sure they are great leaders at training

That's what his supporters say too.
