Maguire Signs Until End of 2023

No idea if Madge is interested in leaving and he’s said he isn’t, but the cowboys job is a very attractive prospect for any coach. They have a very solid roster and lots of young talent coming through

I’d give Madge a two year extension which gives him a 3 year window to shape his squad and achieve some success. Hopefully our cap will be in a healthy state by the end of that period as well.

Who knows maybe Madge thinks the cowboys have a lot brighter future then the tigers I’ve heard players are sick of him carrying on screaming at them all the time anyway

Good posting champ. Who? Where? Why? Don’t just spread gossip.

Don't react mate - he's just a troll with an axe to grind obviously.

Such a very very typical rugby league thread. The LITERALLY worst paper in the country, known for making stuff up and running the agendas of its sister media companies, posts that a current coach sounded out interest to the Cowboys.

No name, no quotes.

Kicks off a whole bunch of speculation and Tigers come out to hose it down. The inevitable "where there's smoke there's fire" nonsense.

What a bunch of suckers some of you are, falling for every bit of click bait and revenue-driving innuendo because it got to print. I must have missed the part in school where you are taught to believe everything you read and hear in the media, because they are never biased and never make mistakes.

Esp. the Telecrap, jesus, what a trash rag that is. It's the Woman's Day of newspapers.

Someone said it best earlier on. If Madge doesn't give that half time spray, there's no speculation.

I have no issue with the spray.
He did what we all would do infront of the team.

They had performed well the games before and where showing signs of improvement but switched fully off against a team that it should never have happened against.

Madge hopefully will be with us long term. We need someone of his capability & we need stability if we are going to have a chance in settling down and changing our culture.

cowboys job would be appealing but so are we he has signed some good young prospects in simpkins and Blore and the big Parra forward. I would be rrally suprised if he up and left.
Agree with others it looks like Payten to Cowboys
Green to Broncos or sharks
i think Bennet to warriors
Demitriou to take over at souths

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire shuts down rumours about a Cowboys move
By WWOS staff

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has shut down rumours linking him to a move to the North Queensland Cowboys.

Following the axing of Paul Green of last month, Tigers officials were made aware of rumours linking their man to the vacant Cowboys job.

That provoked Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe to meet with the 2014 premiership-winning coach, who reportedly assured the club he wasn't going anywhere.

But now the Tigers coach has broken his silence and slammed the reports suggesting he was headed for a move up north.

Maguire, who is currently contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2021, said he hopes to "remain a part" of the club going forward."I am 100 per cent committed to the Wests Tigers," Maguire told Fox Sports."I want to remain a part of this club building towards a premiership."I have no idea where any of the speculation has come from but let's put it to bed."I am focused on the Wests Tigers. I have a contract here until the end of next year."

It’s amusing no one brings up Bellamy, Stuart, Paul Green, Brad Arthur who are as hard line or more so than Madge. Madge gets unfair coverage for blow ups. He never lost it after the Panthers and Eels losses. He rightfully lost it after Gold Coast and Warriors losses.

He knows some are not serious about winning. He’s setting a standard for the players he wants to keep. He already knows who needs to go.
If we play like we did against the Eels and Panthers every game there will be no issue. The problem is we win after he loses it and change the squad which is a bad sign.

Agreed. Two issues:

(1) Bellyache and Stuart fire up constantly, so it's not news. It's like Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon saying something stupid, we are just used to it now.

(2) Tigers still create a lot of clicks owing to the total supporter base and Sydney location, and not being a highly successful club, it's easier to fling mud. Local media is much more protective of local teams e.g. Cowboys and Broncos.

If Maguire leaves I think a lot of fans will also question their loyalty. We have a successful lawyer in our board room surely his business success can translate to WT with appropriate contracts with built in incentives. We need Maguire long term just to appear stable and have a direction forward then quality players will join us. I want one day in September not have to play the 2005 Grand Final DVD to remind me what success feels like. Supporter since 1977 and only one Grand Final win. Sad really but remain loyal.

Not going to enter into any possibility of leaving innuendo and don't have too much issue with him ranting after a loss. Trouble here is that he did so at half time when a constructive approach was almost certainly more appropriate. The side may not have been doing everything correctly and despite seemingly lacking guidance amongst other deficiencies, they were in front.

A lot of the comments from WT fans re: Maguire shows where we are at as a club. People see his rage and want to go to our players "Oh you poor thing. There there, precious." Any players that are muting out his tirades should get ready to ship off to another club.

I was critical of the spray (because it didn't work). However, maybe Madge can then see who reacts well and who doesn't?

I think he is the best option for us for the foreseeable future, but after supporting the last 2 imposters blindly I'm going to be more critical, mostly for my own sanity. It doesn't mean I think he should go, just that he isn't perfect and that's kind of obvious for a human anyway...

Yep.

Bellamy is prone to a rage or ten. Do you think that it doesn't get the best out of his players?

But do you often see it in the dressing room with Crankypants Bellyache like you quite often do with Maguire .....

I can't agree with criticism of Madge's half time spray.

I'm no football sage, but I thought there were some very worrying signs emerging by the half time break.

We were clearly being out-enthused by the Warriors and we were losing the middle. I wasn't optimistic that we would win at that stage.

I reckon Madge saw that too and was looking for more effort.

Maguire is clearly not satisfied with the inconsistent crap this team dishes up.
Good on him. This club needs a stern coach who will not accept this continual 'good one week, crap the next two' mentality. If some players are not up for it, then they need to move on or be moved on.
I for one am totally supportive of this current coach.

Pretty sure I have seen Bellamy going off in a dressing room, yeah.

Not as often, because Bellamy isn't coaching a team of perennial losers.

You are entitled to believe that ranting is the best approach, though through the camera lens in the dressing room, I witnessed a group that was not being lifted by that on Friday.
