Everything points to Doueihi on the bench. At least to start the season.

Would be odd for a centre/Mybe to go to hooker half way through a game but why not. Walters to start

Could work.

What points towards that? 99% chance Doueihi starts at fullback. Madge said that’s where he wants to use him, you don’t sign a fullback to not play him there. Thompson will go good on the wing.

:::

I tend to agree but Douehi Was very tentative bringing the ball back last year and got driven back in 90% of tackles or submitted. Got Souths sets off slowly and he was a liability on kick returns. He’s one year removed from Major knee surgery so he should be ready to run wild.

He either hits the ground running or has to be replaced by Corey. Can’t play like he did last year at the bunnies or we are cactus. Corey on the wing is a massive upgrade on Jennings so it’s important Douehi does well at fullbacks

He was one of their best at fullback in the finals series and like you said he hasn’t been injured a while now so he should do good.

You mean being the best player on the field in a finals Game ? I would argue his play last year is the reason he was given the contract here . Also when Thommo actually returned the ball he was hammered as well. Very elusive out of dummy half but not so much against a set defensive line where he has to turn pick the ball up and now trudge it to some kind of advantage.

From the trial the only thing I could knock Douehi on was his lack of supporting the forwards in case they managed an offload and created second phase

Maybe that could be Madge wanting our forwards concentrating on getting to their bellies and getting quick play the balls

That definitely seemed to be the tactic late in the season last year

If you actually listened to the interview...Maguire distinctly addresses that in relation to the ruck and the wrestle..it's about increasing the play the ball speed in that you then have control..not the defensive team..

Yeah ..but you don't want to become too one dimensional either ....2nd phase can put the defence on the back foot just as easily as quick play the balls

Which is a point of concern itself ....I'd bet our best player creating offloads is Nofa

does anyone else get the feeling that what our side looks like in Rd 1 is going to be very different to what we see at the end of the season? Doueihi sounds as if he'll be eased in, Musgrove might make his way into the starting side and you'd think Grant will get his release and Momirovski has to play a role somewhere

Jennings 2019 was overweight and seemed unmotivated.
Jennings 2020 has lost a heap of weight and looks in much, much better shape.
Time will tell as the season unfolds . . . but I wouldn't really call CT a Massive upgrade on Jennings. A taller winger is a much better commodity with the rule changes.

You make a valid point Hap,I really think Madge is trying to instill into the team that the quick play the balls is what gets the forwards rolling through the middle with the backs supporting play and running off the forwards...
With good go forward the gaps will start to appear, the good offloaders in the team should create havoc during the game...but as I have said before its a team effort and everyone has to do their job...if the forwards are making ground then the backs have to find the gaps and get around their man...

Big difference trying to create quick play the balls is the smarter sides just hold the attacker off the ground and slow the play the ball down that way ....2nd phase will actually create faster play the balls because you don't have the numbers defending against you and you are more likely to get a one on one situation , you get to the ground faster because you are getting on the inside / outside of a defender and they can't hold you up because the risk of missing that tackle is too great as the ball runner gets in behind the defence line

Grant won't happen now , safe to say that conclusively

He played well for a young guy last year but we’re not the Rabbits he has to fire. Tall lad who runs very upright and submits in tackles. Fullbacks don’t have that in their game Tedesco, RTS, Gutherson, Turbo etc run the ball back at speed and get the sets started. Corey tries to but he’s a midget. Douehi submits and gets stood up and pushed back. I was at most Souths games last year he’s a talented player but fullback is not his position. I believe Madge has signed him to replace Benji next year and will fit in wherever he is required this year. I hope he goes well he’s an athlete which we need.

Luciano will create second phase play for us. Already saw his offloads in the first trial. As long as the halves are aware to the offload it’s a good weapon
